The best hotel I stayed in Philippines and maybe the best service I had in all Asia . Hotel is super clean , the beach is unique, pool is great, staff are 100% professional, rooms are modern and huge . Our reservation was for a twin room and when I asked if there was any king available they upgrade us on a pool access room . They even remembered my wife’s birthday and made as a surprise in the room with balloons and cake . Hotel also offer free transport to and from the airport and approach to town is very easy with tricycle (only 100pesos) Breakfast also really good

We are a family of five and it’s our first time in Puerto Princesa. So glad to have discovered this resort because service is great! They welcome you with drinks and creative check-in forms for the kids. And when you get to your room, more surprises await. There was a teepee set up for the kids, balloons and towels shaped like animals. The room was very comfy and spacious, and since we booked the pool villa, we have direct access to the pool which is really convenient. The bathroom is well-planned with a tray for towels, a wooden seat by the sink, and they provided a stepping stool for little kids. At night they even gave the kids milk and cookies! The adults get yummy cashew nuts, but my personal favorite in the room is the Nescafé dolce gusto which comes with cappuccino and americano refills. They clean up the rooms daily and provide fresh towels each time. The staff even cleaned our aqua socks without us asking when we came from a tour! You can also try booking your own private tours through them and we were quite happy with ours. We decided to go on the Honda Bay tour and it was a great experience! Don’t forget to book an in-room massage as well. I highly recommend this resort when in Puerto Princesa!

This hotel's staff are incredible, to the point that they outshine all the shortcomings we encountered.

PROS:
1. Extremely hospitable and accommodating personnel.

Eg. Their airport shuttle service was only up to 18:30 pm, however sir Mark still waited for us up to 21:15 upon finding out that our flight was delayed.

Another example is ma'am Queenie who works at the restaurant, when I asked her whether the tour to the underground river was cancelled, she volunteered to verify it for us by calling the front desk, when they found out that the underground river tour was cancelled they offered to book us a Honda bay tour, which they were able to accomplish in less than an hour.

There are a lot more of other thoughtful gestures from the staff that are way beyond their duty that I won't place here since there are others who might demand for the same thing. But rest assured to the management we truly appreciate all your efforts to make our stay memorable.

2. Spacious clean room (H-206) with a nice view of the pool and in a quiet area.

3. Reasonable rates, at around 20,000 PHP (400 USD), is already inclusive of 2 nights stay in a classic room, breakfast, shuttle services, city tour, and underground river or Honda bay tour

4. If you will have them book your Honda Bay tour they would be the ones to provide you with Beach towels

5. Affordable packages for weddings, debuts, and birthday celebrations that start at 110,000 PHP (2,200 USD) for a 50 person event.

6. Good food at the Tomato and Basil restaurant

CONS:
1. Breakfast does not start exactly at 6 am and restaurants and room service are only up to 22:00, so better have food ready if you have to leave early or arrive late.

2. Disorganized "bread line" at the breakfast buffet. I suggest that they only allow their staff to operate the toaster, because I had an experience with a middle aged female Caucasian who cut in queue and placed her bread slices in the toaster while another guest and I were still using it, she then proceeded to increase the temperature of the toaster without asking if it was okay with us. Hence we ended up having burnt bread bottoms.

3. Kayaking and paddleboard area are not exactly picturesque with strong currents at the time of our visit.

NOTE:
1. Incidental fee is 2,000 PHP per night for a classic room

2. If you want to do some exploring on your own, you may ask the front desk to book you a tricycle which costs 150 PHP (3 USD) per trip.

This resort has access to the beach but quite overpriced for a spot not good for lounging and swimming. It has a pool, a garden, a mangrove trail and a wooden path leading towards the sea, but you cannot swim since it has a lot of seagrass especially during low tide. Also, amenities are not well maintained, especially the rooms. For its price, I would say, management should have paid more attention to housekeeping. The villas are more overpriced ranging at $500 per night but does not have access to the beach, though you do get a nice ocean view. Breakfast is not commendable, more so with dinner. But I remember they have a tasty pizza in their outdoor bar. However, if you want to be near the beach, you can go to Sabang or El Nido and stay in the reasonably priced resorts near the Sabang or El Nido beach which have a more relaxing beach ambience. If you are only planning to do the tours and island-hopping, there are good hotels near the airport or Robinson mall where you can readily stock up supplies, whenever needed and grab any food in nearby restaurants. I've seen some decent new hotels near the city center which also have a pool but very accessible to the restaurants and convenience stores. This resort is in a remote part of the city where you have no choice but to dine in (with poor food choices) or go out for an early dinner.

This is supposedly the only 5 star resort in the area which is sad as I think competition might actually inspire them to do better. The place itself is very nice and initial impressions are quite excellent. But the longer we stayed the more we noticed the lack of upkeep in the rooms. The size of the bathroom is big but there is not a single electrical outlet inside so you cannot plug in anything not even the hairdryer. The shower glass door does not close shut and with the very strong water pressure you can be assured of a very wet overflowing floor outside of the shower enclosure. We paid for 2 extra persons in the room which they informed us meant sharing the beds and breakfast inclusive but they don’t automatically provide the extra towels. Even after calling them to request for more towels they still took more than 2 days to give us our extra towels. The water in the pool is quite warm and not refreshing as the heat of the sun kept it quite warm but some of our friends actually liked it that way so it’s more of a personal preference. The drying rack in the balcony is a nice touch as we can dry our swim clothes there. There are also water dispensers in the hallway which is great for refilling the complimentary glass bottles of water provided. Buffet breakfast is included in the room rates but don’t expect anything extraordinary. The Italian restaurant in the resort does not seem to be ready for the tourist influx as food came out ever so slowly and we felt bad for the foreign tourists who don’t complain as much as the locals so we did get our food faster than they did. The resort is expanding so there is construction ongoing which is a positive sign of tourist revival in PP which I’m happy about for them but I wish they would also pay closer attention to the upkeep of the existing rooms.

Tail end of our 3 week trip with Lola and grandkids. We were excited to have comfortable rooms, spacious pools, beautiful grounds and top notch food with plentiful options.

We were lucky enough to stay in both a signature room and pool premiere room for some privacy. The kiddo loved the direct entry into the pool. She also enjoyed a visit in the indoor well air conditioned kid structure (provided some relief from the heat).

Entertainment was sufficient: live music and movies in the evening, a fun game room, mini golf and the pool is open for use until 10pm.

Breakfast had adequate variety between the days albeit a somewhat island-time service. I suppose the island-time service applied to multiple beverage orders but no biggie.

Cons:
Current construction for expansion is ongoing likely til sometime in 2014. The extra noise didn’t bother me but just an fyi in case someone is opposed to staying some place with construction.

Showers are extremely slippery. The signature rooms our family used did not include a bath mat to lay down (which is a hazard especially with an elderly traveler and kids). The pool premiere room did have a bath mat to avoid falls. We requested anti slip mats for the signature rooms but we’re advised none were available and we were given extra bath floor towels to lay in the shower. So… make sure you wear tsinelas in the showers to avoid falls. We are checking out tomorrow with 1 injured person.

Although our premiere pool room was spacious and comfortable, some of the excitement was diminished due to a problematic toilet. It has very poor flush pressure and repeatedly got clogged. Before we even complained/called about it- we received a call from the front desk asking if the toilet was ok…. Which was really odd. Makes me think that it is a known ongoing issue. A guy came to “fix” the problem but brought a toilet brush not a plunger. Strange. A bit inconvenient for us to plan to use a different toilet to defecate.

Food and drinks are fairly affordable.

Well I can say this quickly, not worth the money paid,
I booked a suite with a spa tub, jacquzi which was $300 a night we stayed 5 nights so for Philippines is a 5 star price. We get there and we are given a room after waiting as we arrived earlier then expected. They give us our room a pool villa room so after going to the room I went back to reception to ask why I haven’t been given the room I’ve booked, her reply was we upgraded you, I asked why wouldn’t you give me the room I booked and she had no reply except we upgraded you sir. In actual fact the room she so called upgraded too was a lower priced room, around $1200 for a week, what can you do they say sorry we don’t have the room you booked available wow wow wow.
Ok so we have a nice room don’t get me wrong but it’s not the room we booked.
The room the balcony steps straight into the pool ok we will make do, first night we went for a swim, next 2 1/2 days sorry the pool is closed for some reason, the pool is the only attraction you can use as everything is closed or being redeveloped. The staff are nice enough but not accommodating as obviously it’s already paid for so take what you have attitude. The place is very nice in sections but you can’t access the beach/water ocean area as it’s blocked of to access the pier. Builders every where, blue tarps paint tins and really just a mess and unattractive. Did I enjoy my stay well I slept well the beds are comfy but in my mind the whole trip we didn’t get what we booked for so I was annoyed with their attitude of well it’s all we have. So no I wouldn’t be returning. The so called resort is really a year or more away from ever being able to be called a 4 or 5 star resort. It’s 2 star resort at best and I regret booking a top tier room because I like what I like and I didn’t receive that so they really didn’t care if the guest was happy or not.
They sugar coat their booking and make it all look so pretty and even have photos of non functioning areas to make it attractive to book as you will see in my photos the deeper pool is under construction but in booking pictures it’s looking serene.
I understand soft opening but don’t sugar coat to make it look like it’s not.
Deceitful is all I can say.
Far from happy and they made my time in Palawan unforgettable for the wrong reasons.
Add for the place says 3 restaurants lol only has 1 and with a very limited menu and 2 dishes weren’t even available for the duration of our stay, so much about this place is false advertisement

Aussie Steve

The hotel is currently on soft opening and as such, a lot of amenities are not available. There is no fitness center or spa available. There is also only one restaurant open which has a limited menu of Italian cuisine. If you prefer other types of food, you will have to take a tricycle which charges Php300 roundtrip to whichever restaurant you'd like to go to nearby. Note that there is no way to walk to any of the restaurants from the hotel as they are quite far. If you tried to walk it during the day, you'll die of the heat and if you try walking at night, there are no street lights.

Service is excellent at this hotel. Unfortunately, due to the lack of amenities, it's hard to give this hotel a higher rating. Also, we stayed in a room that had direct access to the pool from the patio. Because it's on the ground floor, you hear everyone in the pool and you also hear everyone upstairs dragging chairs on the floor or those with heavy footsteps. You can also hear your next door neighbor. If you're light sleeper, you probably should opt for the top floor. They also have a live band on Friday nights so prepare to sleep later than usual.

Probably the best resort I've been to. We had an event here for 150 people in the ballroom and the staff are very easy to work with and responsive to our requests. Their pool does not smell like chlorine and it is warm at night. Very thoughtful welcome gifts for kids as well. We will br back for sure!

We stayed at Princesa Garden Island Resort for our final stop of our honeymoon. Here is an honest review of the positives and negatives of the resort.

Positives:
Operations Manager, Elaine, went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. She listened to all our concerns and offered us practical solutions. She was great!
Tomato & Basil is their only operating restaurant at the moment but their food is absolutely delicious, well priced and well portioned.
The included resort activities; kayaking, games room, bike riding, movie night were all really fun
Their swimming pool was really big so even when there are a number of people there, it doesn’t feel crowded
Free Airport Transfer (both ways) very handy and convenient
Assistance with getting transport into town and ensuring we pay the correct fares

Negatives;
So many hidden costs involved, it’s outrageous. Eg. Can’t order foodpanda to be delivered to Reception without incurring Corkage Fee. They still ask for a PHP2000 per night Incidental hold that gets released within 10 business days after check out. Most other hotels no longer ask for this but instead just opt to charge the credit card on file accordingly.
Everything is really old school, all menu pricing is not Nett and is exclusive of 12% VAT and 10% Service Charge. They also issued Towel Cards that we needed to exchange for Pool Towels and PHP850 if we lost the card.
Heavily understaffed for the size of the resort. One time we ordered an ice bucket for the room, followed up then they said they ran out of ice but in reality it was because they had no staff to walk the ice up to our Water Villas.

Suggestion; due to the resort’s albeit isolated location and proximity to the city centre, a shuttle into town arranged by the resort and running on possibly an hourly or on-call basis would be very convenient for the guests.

Looking forward to returning to this resort once all the buildings and facilities are completed and have opened.
