Travelling with A good place for nature lover travellers Mangrove Resort was one. It is set 5mn walk off main road in a lush tropical garden facing a beautiful river. Canoes are available if you wish to paddle your way and explore it. Another 10mn walk will take you to a secluded beach.
My room was comfy and quiet with attached bathroom, soap and shampoo.
Breakfast is available at a bargain price and just great. I had coffee, tasty eggs from the owner's hens, home made veggies salad, home made french bread with french butter and german jam, and a whole papaya straight from the garden :-) all this facing the jungle and watching at birds.
Claude the owner is a long time traveller and a story teller. Get ready to share experiences as this place is meant for real unfussy travellers more than for sad and unhappy tourists... Thanks Claude and your wife for the moment and for the memory, even if sometimes, happiness is having no memory... Carpe Diem, DuDu

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mangrove Resort. The staff is wonderful. The place is comfortable and absolutely not touristic. Exactly what I was looking for, authenticity. I traveled alone and it's the perfect place to relax while discovering the local fauna and flora through the mangrove's wildlife and the Langogan's village. I am now looking forward to come back and enjoy the activities and sightseeing Palawan has to offer!

Really nice place where you can enjoy the meaning of mangrove .
They got really nice rooms for a good price . This is a really peacefull place where you can find many things to do like swimming (arround five minutes by walk) , tracking in forest or even fishing near the mangrove .
You must go there if you are planning to go arround puerto princesa .

A nice little guest house with bungalow style, we stayed here for four nights. Close to the beautiful river as we paddled up until it became too shallow but to get that far, you should be experienced paddlers. Approximately 800 meters to the beach where we were the only visitors, not 300 as stated somewhere on their website. No good snorkeling but we saw leatherback turtles and the beach southern part against the rocks is very nice. Would certainly recommend a hike up river about 15 km until the trails ends, a really nice nature experience and contact with local farmers. Visit the river mouth and watch the fishing boats come in, interesting to see their catch and how it is taken care of.
The rooms are simple but perfectly OK. The water pressure in the shower is next non-existent but that does not matter, just takes a little longer to showering.
Claude is a nice and helpful host and knows all about the surroundings. But perhaps it would be better for the business and the guests if the bar was not always open for him ...
The speed of the WIFI is to say the least low. They turn it off and on at certain times and sometimes just on principle. One evening pulled Clouds drunk neighbor friend just out the WIFI and walked away.
We had rented self-drive a jeep in Puerto Princesa which is to be recommended instead of crowded buses and crazy taxi drivers. But you have to have good nerves if you drive at night…

Having read the previous reviews and having stayed for a few nights myself I can say the following: Yes, the owners and staff are very friendly and are going out of their way to meet your needs. Yes, they know the area and give you tips on where to go. They are more than happy to lend you their canoe or bikes free of charge or arrange tours at a very reasonable price. Yes, the location is peaceful and beautiful, right by the river and only a 5 mins bike ride from the beach. Yes, the folks in the village are friendly and welcoming. Yes, the food is fresh, tasty and resonably priced.

BUT: The place is a zoo. I mean, quite literally. The five dogs freaked out barking every night, waking me up a few times. They will sit right next to you at dinner, begging for food. The 20 cats sit on tables and chairs and everywhere they like. The roosters start their crowing at 4 a.m., but I cannot complain about this as every Philippino village has dozens of roosters. The mosquito screens on my room window were ineffective and I got many bites despite keeping the screens closed at all times. My room was dark but I didn't mind as I didn't spend much time in it. The bathroom got flooded every time I took a shower. I know this is the standard bathroom design in the Philippines and I don't mind it if I pay local prices. But at 25 Euros per night for a single room the accommodation was too expensive for what it is.

This was the place, in my first trip overseas, that cemented my love for Palawan and the people that live there. Staying at Palawan Mangrove resort was almost to good to be true, but here I was experiencing it for myself. I could talk about all the basic stuff like beds, showers blah blah, but that isn't important in a magical place like this. Claude and Marichu were so humble and great company, we wanted our stay to feel like we could just live in a village, which is what you get, community, something we don't have at home. There is not one thing you could say, that makes this place what it is, which makes it so much more special. I feel blessed to have made such lovely friends in all the staff, who are amazing cooks, as well as fabulous karaoke singers!! If you ever go to palawan, and want a REAL experience, stay here. I plan on returning really soon!
Ps... Must love animals.

. . . Claude would say . . about life on Palawan. After 5 of the most enjoyable days I've ever spent anywhere, I heartily agree. In fact, I'd like to become his neighbor someday. As for the Mangrove resort, look no further if you want a real vacation, a real experience, a different experience from the typical resort. You'll be nestled along a scenic river, a 1/4 mile from its outlet at the Sulu Sea. The arranged tours are wonderful and tailored to you. Claude arranged special fishing excursions, because he took the time to know us. The easy bike ride or walk to the fishing village is a must. The people are the so friendly. Swim with the kids in the river, like we did. Take time to connect with them, and with the beauty around you. Make sure you catch the night sky at the beach. It's a truly awe inspiring, jaw dropping look at some of the Almighty's best handiwork. The food was always freshly prepared, with special attention and care. We can't wait to return. Thank you Claude and Marichu for a wonderful experience.

All of the previous reviews making reference to the owners exceptional hospitality are 100% accurate ! That is the first and probably most important aspect of staying at this resort.
Claude and Marichu are genuine, good people whose sole intention seems to be to just look after their guests. Claude is a complete nature enthusiast, and whilst keen to impart as much of his knowledge onto anyone willing to listen, he still also has a passion for exploring the things he doesnt yet know exist around him, and this makes for great entertainment should you be fortunate enough to stay here whilst he is on one of his missions.
This is a place to stay if you have an appreciation of what Palawan is about, and Claude can guide you through virgin jungle, or point you towards a gentle river boat trip or host you on an exciting fishing or snorkelling trip.
If you come here expecting to close the door of your room and confine yourself to a luxury hotel, then you will be wasting your time. Go to the city for that !
Mangrove Resort is in a beautiful but accessible location and is ideal for experiencing a variety of outdoor activities. The accomodation, and the set up in the resort reflect this. The rooms are comfortable, they are basic but most importantly, spotlessly clean with a distinct pride taken by Marichu in offering high standards of hygiene and tidyness. No air conditioning, but fans are provided, and the dining area is simple and rustic but the food well presented and fresh !

If anyone arrives at this resort wanting to do nothing other than hide away in their room and be waited on hand and foot, then they are simply in the wrong place for the wrong reasons. And frankly, should not be taking a vacation or travelling in Palawan !! This is a place for people who appreciate good company, great scenery, outstanding nature and diverse activities. All of which, the hosts provide in abundance.

Overall great accomodation, but most prominently an excellent place to stay for anyone wishing to see the true diverse beauty of Palawan !

My family and I went this Easter to Palawan and stayed one night at Mangrove Resort. We were heading to El Nido the day after, and decided to take a short stop in Langogan before travelling long hours by bus until our destination.

Claude and his wife were the best hosts ever! We lost our luggages on the arrival at Puerto Princesa, and we thank Claude for helping solving the problem. He made sure we received the bags the next day at the Resort which is 82 Kms away from the airport (2 hours by bus)!

The place is beautiful, extremely peaceful and organized. My kids loved the garden and all the different types of trees and river, the richness of the flora and fauna was amazing.

The room was big, we had a double bedroom with a big bunk bed and my kids still had lots of space to play. It was a very basic style of room, but the toilet facilities and cleanliness were great.

There is a fishing village next to the resort and a beautiful beach, it's definitely worth staying at Mangrove Resort.

Is the way you I would describe this place, It's a laid back and friendly place , and yes it's for nature lovers and those who seek peace and quiet. the bonus on top of this place ( clean rooms, hot and cold showers, private batjh and toilet ) , is Claude, ex fighter pilot, travelled around the world and so much knowledge and respect for the local flora and fauna of Palawan..

The food is excellent and the staff wonderfull, have a drink with Claude and let him tell you the stories he knows, and listen..learn and have lot's of fun.. :) !
