You can’t beat the view of this hotel! Not many hotels in Puerto Princesa are beach front. The front desk staff helped us book the underground river tour and zipline excursion! These ended up being one of the highlights of our entire Philippines trip. There was a friendly tricycle driver named Daniel who was conveniently parked outside the hotel and took us everywhere we wanted for our entire stay. This hotel is also super close to the best place to shop for pearls! Don’t forget to stop by the on-site gift shop located outside between the lobby and the dining room where breakfast is served. Super friendly shop owner and we picked up some unique items to take home with us.

Hotel has a very nice ambiance, calm and serene. Everyone is nice, helpful and makes you feel welcome, special mention to Alma of frontdesk who has been very accommodating during our stay. She's an ace of the hotel. Would definitely recommend this to colleagues that will travel to Puerto Princesa.

The pandemic really affected this business... You can tell by the way some facilities, furnishings and finishings need work but were not addressed. One of the rooms we booked had a toilet that was not flushing well and a vent that wasnt working, as well as a door lock that was faulty. We appreciate that they asked if we wanted to change rooms but we didnt want to lose the adjoining rooms - and the beautiful beach view and direct access to the beach were also compelling reasons to stay. The rooms were otherwise clean and comfortable, with cable TV and mini fridges. The restaurant opens early, which is good for those with morning tours. The food is average and expensive (well, resort prices). It may be better to book a cab go eat elsewere for lunch and dinner. What can be guaranteed is excellent brewed coffee, which we ordered many times during our stay. That being said the staff are friendly and very accommodating - from the security guard to the restaurant personnel, all were very pleasant.

Microtel by Wyndham in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, has a relaxing ambience. Reflecting the color of the sea, it has a blue-and-white motif. Another plus is its bucolic setting, which makes it a perfect place to be away from it all.

The Wyndham is located at the perfect spot. The beach is pristine and quiet and removed from the general traffic. You get the feel of an exclusive island, but are still located relatively close to everything. The ideal place for a romantic getaway or a relaxing escape.

1. The hotel needs an upgrade/renovation - it is no where near as nice as the other Wyndham hotels 2. Organised and paid for hotel to pick us up from the airport - no one was there to pick us up when we arrived 3. Asked staff if they could make a dinner reservation for us (we were from another country and didn't have SIM cards to call) and had to chase it up 3 times until it was finally done (3 hours before the actual reservation time). 4. Front desk staff seemed very flustered if you spoke to them in English (would often ignore my husband who asked the question and then turn to me and speak in Tagalog without checking if I even spoke the language) 5. "Buffet" breakfast usually only consisted of the following (very disappointing in comparison to other Wyndham hotels): - 1 meat option - 1 seafood option - rice - congee - 1-2 cereals - 2 juices - water/coffee/tea - 2-3 breads - butter (in ice water?) - 1 jam - 2-3 fruits - egg station (only thing that saved it)

Thank you for your feedback. Allow me to apologize sincerely for the inconvenience you suffered during your stay and if we were not able to live up to your expectations. I have already talked with the Front Office staff who handled your transportation and dinner arrangements. There was clearly some misunderstanding and oversight on our part and we have already taken appropriate steps to prevent incidents like these from happening again. I am pleased to inform you that we are scheduled to undergo renovations this year and hope that we get the chance to make it up to you at some later date.

Our plane was delayed getting in so it was too late for the Hotel pick up. We were able to still contact the staff and they advised us how to get from the airport to the Hotel. Arrived at the Hotel at 01:30 and staff were there to greet us and settle us in. It is in a quiet beach location but close enough to town to still be picked up for the tours the staff helped arrange. We stayed for a week which was a good time to relax and still see the local sights. Island hopping is a must. We found the food too sweet but I think it's like that in most places in The Philippines.

The hotel location is very remote. About 20-30 minutes from Puerto Princesa Airport. Hotel pick-up was included in our package so it was a good ride. The hotel was fine and comfy up to a standard. Hotel lobby is full of lounging couches, electric fans to cool off. Staff seems to be uptight but still smiling and helpful. Rooms with 2 beds are decent enough for 4 people. No elevator. Breakfast is good enough to fill you up. The beach has a good view especially sunrise but water is not for swimming. It's a good place for short stay.

Such a shame to have ended 17 days in the Philippines here. Having had other hotels to compare to on Palawan, Bohol and Cebu it is clear that the Microtel in Puerto Princesa is well past it’s sell by date and in dire need of a top to bottom revamp. We arrived after a 6 hour bus journey from El Nido (Lio Beach) to check in and were greeted by the front desk staff with a frown rather than a smile. As we transferred in a group we weren’t allowed to get room keys until all passports had been copied which took some time given the rough transfer and road conditions and time it took some people to recover. The rooms are basic, we had a ‘lagoon’ view (swamp at front of hotel) with two double beds, towels etc. The bed sheets were clean but stained, towels look about 15 years old and pillows so hard it’s impossible to imagine what they’re stuffed with. There is a TV in the room but the picture makes it unwatchable. The AC unit is incredibly loud even on its quiet setting meaning you choose to boil while sleeping, or lie awake but be comfortable. The rooms are extremely noisy with the sound travelling throughout the hotel. A lot of the more local guests are very loud and no consideration to others. If you have managed to get off to sleep you’ll be woken at 7:30am by housekeeping wanting to clean your room! The pool area is ok - all of the sun beds are broken, rusty screws retrying to keep them together. There is zero shade, there are no parasols and given the south view you’re in the sun all day with no respite. The palm trees are so old and tall they give no shade. You get some shade at the back of the hotel later in the afternoon. Sand mites are a real problem too, I wasn’t bitten at all in el nido but here I was covered in bites on the first day. The beach towels are as bad as the room towels, threadbare with some holes and frayed edges. The pool is dirty, dead bugs, leaves, hair, murky water. Didn’t see it being cleaned in the 3 days I was here. Paint is peeling from the pool, needs to be drained and refurbished. The beach is more like a mud flat - the tide is way out and the steps to the sand are dangerous so try and pick the right ones to use! The sea is shallow, no swimming opportunity. It feels like reclaimed swamp / marshland. The food is average at best, overpriced for what you get compared to previous places. A service charge is also added despite always having to go and find someone to serve rather than be offered. The glass covers for the tables are chipped with one in particular being very sharp and dangerous. Pointed out to staff but nothing done. Food on first night was a BBQ grill because the general managers daughter had her birthday party so we had chance for seafood and sausage from the grill. The next day was back to usual menu which isn’t very exciting. Managers preference I guess? No fresh fish or prawns or lobsters. You can go to the market and buy your own to be cooked but this should be in the menu. Breakfast was very poor. Unless you like garlic rice, sprats, fish and pork then you’re limited to bread and eggs. Fruit was melon but not replenished enough, if you’re lucky you’ll get pineapple too but need to ask when things run low. Coffee in breakfast is weak. The ‘coffee on tap’ is 5 peso for a tiny cup but tasted a bit better. Water is available upstairs and downstairs but only downstairs seemed to be chilled. There is no AC in the lobby, just a fan. No late check out option so had to sweat it out in the lobby waiting for airport transfer. Wi-fi is pretty much non existent. You get a code on arrival but need one code per device. The connection is in ‘low data’ mode so anything other than email will be tricky. You need to reconnect to Wi-fi each time you unlock your device and enter login code each time, what a chore! All in all a really disappointing way to end our holiday. There are so many better options available. I have no idea how they have such high trip advisor ratings, maybe my standards are a bit higher but given the other places I’m comparing to on this trip I was shocked how poor it was. I really want to give more than a 1 star rating but I really feel it’s all it deserves. Look around and go elsewhere. I would rather have stayed in el nido for the rest of our trip. Sorry to say that the place needs to be closed down and overhauled top to bottom if they want to keep up with the competition. These aren’t problems that the management can try and spot fix, it needs serious investment. Try and fix the road on the approach at the same time.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share with us your valuable feedback on your recent stay. We appreciate all genuine, fair and truthful guest comments as this helps us in our drive for continuous improvement. It is our commitment to give all our guests the best experience possible and clearly, in this instance, we have fallen short of expectations. I apologize if we have disappointed you and ruined your vacation. I have discussed your observations with all departments concerned and we will try to rectify our shortcomings as best we can. If it is any consolation, we are scheduled to renovate our facilities this year and this should address most of your concerns. We cannot do anything about the passports, though, as Philippine law requires us to ask for proper identification from all guests upon check-in. As for late check-out, we do accommodate requests if hotel occupancy allows. Regarding the shade around the pool (or lack thereof), we provide parasols to guests who wish to lounge around the pool but only if the wind is not blowing so hard so as to avoid any injury. We will try to do something about the coconut trees growing too old and tall that they do not provide suitable shade any more. Because of their peculiar botanical traits, it is hard to trim coconut trees to prevent them from growing taller each year. It is good, though, that you were able to enjoy the shade later in the afternoon after it moved from the front of the hotel to the pool area. As for the restaurant, our concessionaire was apprised of your comments about the breakfast and they said that they will try to improve upon the breakfast buffet that includes rice, soup, salad, choice of fish and meat dish, an omelet station, juice, coffee and/or tea, aside from bread, fruit and cereals. They will also consider offering their Saturday Grill Night on Sundays as well, depending on availability of fresh ingredients. Finaly, it was unfortunate that the tides were unfavorable during your stay. It does that from time to time. We post daily tide schedules with the weather bulletin at the Front Desk to guide guests and help them plan their activities to make the most of their vacation. Thank you once again for your insight. I sincerely hope we can do better next time and make it up to you at some later date.
