We stayed here last Feb 28-29, 2008. If you look around the beach for other resorts, you will definitely see that Marina Garden Resort is one of the best looking. Well, I'm not a big fan of cottage-type accomodation, as most resorts in El Nido beach are of that type.

Our room is pretty basic, brand new bungalow bldg with many rooms. We doesn't have any TV or Ref inside our room (just bed, cabinet & bathroom). But its OK as we always spend our time outside (Island Hopping). But at night we do wanted to watch tv before going to sleep, but it's not possible because we don't have tv in our room.

The electricity runs only during at night (6:30PM - 6AM). But it's not the hotel that has a problem, the whole town experiences that too.

By the way El Nido town's beach is different from the El Nido Resort (Miniloc and Lagen). As Miniloc & Lagen are island resorts. The El Nido beach is a beach adjacent to the El Nido town. This a pretty common mistake.

Over all, for the price, its the best place you can be in El Nido beach.

For pictures of the resort, you may want to look at this site:

Stayed here for 5 days. They did our washing and the rooms were really good for the price we paid. There are normal rooms or beach huts (which are very basic). The rooms are right on the beach and very close to everything you need. Easily one of the best places i stayed in El Nido for the price we paid. There is also a big table near the beach huts which people congregate around and you can meet lots of travellers. Only downside was the family with kids which turned up right at the end. Still really great though.

We stayed here as group of 4 couples for a week and had a fantastic time!

This is one of the only hotels in El Nido that is both on the beach front but also with a private shaded area to relax and spend the day. The shady courtyard under the coconut trees, filled with hammocks and beach recliners makes it easy to pass the day watching the boats come in and out with a good book. The beach bar has really good fruit smoothies and super cheap drinks which we enjoyed into the night. It also serves a decent local or western breakfast each morning which is included.

Between us we had 4 rooms, all which were well equipped, clean and had good strong AC and fans. The mary gold is also one of the only hotels that has a backup generator which runs during the frequent power outages - which we found very reliable during our stay and never experienced any of the power outages that our friends in other hotels had.

WIFI was hit and miss depending on which room you were in, but works fine out on the courtyard and at the bar.

Looking at all the other hotels we passed during our stay here, the mary gold was definitely the best of the bunch. If we come back I would book it without hesitation.

We stayed 3 nights with issues with the air con from the beginning. We reported it about 4 times. To be far after the 3rd complaint they offered to change it but I was one foot out the door. Although they later offered a discount, upon check out the discount was less than a dollar for 3 nights.
Save your money and go where the air-con, wifi and cleaning service works.
The location is great but El Nido is small so if you book a place off the beach you can walk to the beach easily. However, this beach is polluted with boats departing for tours so it is not a hanging out beach. You can take a tuk tuk to a nicer beach for 50P.

Maybe it's just me but I'm writing this review while sitting outside the room as we speak. I'm from Singapore and in order to reach El Nido have to fly to Manila then switch to a domestic flight (4+11/2 hours) then a horrendous up and down, round and round 6 hours van trip to this place. Fine, my expectation ease all the pains and discomforts of the journey. But the moment I saw the beach front, I knew it's not my kind of place. The entire beach is full of boats, water is murky and the view is mostly surrounding islands. During the day there's endless people getting on and off these vessels so other than the sound of sea waves you will get a lot of engine revving sounds.
The room is not what I call bargain, it's small, dated bulky TV, no fridge, window Aircon but performed alright and thin curtains. Bathroom is another issue, water from electric instant heater is trickling. There are a lot of ants in the room as well, funny I didn't see any one mentioned any of the above in the reviews. Breakfast are decent but food on some of the restaurant we tried so far are not good , hopefully can get better food for the remaining 2 days.
The nice things with El Nido is probably the island hopping which I would rate better than the phuket's Phi Phi island hopping. Shops on the main street are mainly small restaurant, some souvenir shops, convenient stalls, small massage place and a few drinking place ( some with live music). On the beach there's also a handfull of restaurant and drinking places.
Having been to the geogous beach of Boracay and the all-in-one Koh Samui in Thailand which I've enjoyed very much (for reference sake) I would say El Nido is probably for people whose purpose is to do island hop or diving trips. Not to mentioned the place only have electric power from 2pm till 6 am.

We arrived in Elnido without a reservation. It was hard to find a place and we ended up paying a bit more for one of there more expensive rooms - with aircon and hotwater. This was a blessing as I got ill and it made my stay a little more comfortable. Its right on the beach which is nice and in the middle of the two main streets so not as noisy as other.

The breakfast was ok you only get a choice of Milo(chocolate) or coffee with breakfast. Can be busy so if ur going on a day tour make sure you get ur order in early.

The art cafe is great place to eat and book your tours but dont order Tea its made with the local water! We did tour c which was great - good BBQ, I would recommend taking a wet suit or something that covers u up a bit more than a bikini and something for your feet as there are lots of little jelly fish when going into secret beach and it stings.

If you can avoid it do not get the boat to Coron - its nightmare at 8 hours long. The 4 hour ferry no longer runs. I would spend ur time in Coron and surrounding islands rather than Puerto Princessa/Sebang or El nido.

El Nido is just a very small town north of Palawan and Marina Garden Beach Resort is one of the few resorts in town that is literally in front of the beach.
Resort is near the police station and some of the best hangout places in El Nido.
It's also near to a lot of tour agencies in town, which is helpful if you haven't booked your island tours yet.
Resort accommodation has free breakfast. You can choose from Filipino, American and others.
Lounging in the resort's hammock in the evening is so peaceful and you will love the serenity of the place.
Marina is definitely a great value for your money.

We settled on Marina Garden for our five night stay in el nido after extensive research on lonely planet and tripadvisor. Since there were five of us, we got one townside room and one deluxe.
After arriving late at night on our first day we only had to wait till the next morning to realize we had made the perfect choice for our hotel. Their beachfront location offers breathtaking views, which admittedly are hard to get away from when you have to start preparing for the days activities. We found both our rooms to be comfortable and clean and the staff was wary to stay out of your way but were helpful whenever assistance was required. The resto-bar at the hotel prepared our complimentary breakfast upon our request, regardless of the time of day (as late as 2 pm even :)). The premises has a lot of seating on the beach, including hammocks which can make for a very relaxing reading spot just footsteps away from your room. An adjoining kayak rental stall is an added bonus for guests at Marina Garden.
The hotel's central location is also a plus point as pretty much everything is under a five minute walk on either side of the hotel. One of the local tour arrangers, a very helpful lady named Lani, approached us when we checked in and helped us out with a number of things during our four day stay (tours, renting kayaks, bargaining at shopping and travel back to PP). Definitely keep an eye out for her as her assistance can make things very convenient (her tour stall is located across the street from the entrance to the hotel, next to the police station).
In conclusion, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marina Garden and will definitely be visiting again sometime in the near future!

Our last destination after travelling for month in the Philippines was El Nido a secluded destination for those that want peace and quiet. Marina Garden Beach Resort was recommend to us because it is right on the beach. We made our reservations using email and were very satisfied. It is peaceful and relaxing. As Trip Advisor was such a useful tool when I planned our trip I want to give back with some useful information.
The trip to El Nido can be by private car which is expensive for tourists. There is a minivan option which can be arranged at your hotel in Puerto Princess for about $22 Can return or the regular bus - which is good for the budget traveller. The hotel was recommended to us as it has great beach access and it is central in the town. The pub next door closes around Midnight so it gets quiet after that. The rooms have twin beds a common attribute in Philippine accommodations but they can be moved together. There is a breakfast with your room. Choices include a typical Philippine breakfast – beef, an egg, and rice; European Breakfast or a pancake. It takes awhile for the breakfast to be prepared so order early if you need to go somewhere. The drip coffee is extra but is very good. A couple of tips, the hotel is very secure – the gate to the beach is locked at 10:00 pm and there is a security guard. They leave the lights on outside the rooms and I like sleeping in very dark rooms. As the curtains are made of a thin material, the lights shone through the windows. After everyone was in bed, I turned the lights off. Everyone was okay with this. Made sense to me, as there is a real power shortage in this tiny wonderful town. There are three different types of rooms which are described on their web site. Two or three rooms have power, hot/cold water. All rooms in the new section of the hotel have TV and AC. There are also some native huts (which were the original hotel). The power is on from 2:00 pm to 6:00 am. My husband was quite sick while we were in El Nido and the hotel staff connected us with the Doctor. They straightened our room everyday and did not really clean them like you would see in an all inclusive resort. The staff took very good care of us and we had a great time. El Nido is a place to find your soul and be at peace.

For what you pay for in this place is not worth it. Yes, you have a nice view and the beach is right in front but cannot swim in it. So what is the point? I would rather spend the money in a resort like in Lio beach. Here’s my reasons:

The deluxe room with partial view of the sea is crammed with furnitures! It’s not even big enough for two people.
Shower is pathetic. The shower tap just trickles and no hot water, more like lukewarm. And pokey bathroom.
Bed is very firm and same with the pillows.
No coffee or tea making facilities. We had to borrow an electric jug from the reception.
AC and ceiling fan works well. Thank goodness for that!
Location is excellent, walking distance to just about everything.
Here is the thing that amuses me. I asked them to clean our room. We were asked to sign a ‘ Room Cleaning Waiver’ form, that if something goes missing it’s our fault. Now, why would I sign this stupid form? I’ve been all over the world and this is the first time ever that I’ve been asked to sign s cleaning form. What this means is that the workers here cannot be trusted.
So, would I recommend this place? Definitely not.

Can you swim at the beach out the front of the Inn ?

It is not advised, or at least not without a very good shower afterwards. Mind you, getting to some of the island tour boats often requires walking out chest high to get on/off the boat. It offers a pretty view, several restaurants along the beach and is clean at the beach level. Perhaps not for a leisurely swim, but there are 3 other beaches nearby.

Hello! I paid for our hotel separately. The only package tour I booked with MaryGold Beachfront Inn was the Underground River Tour and Private Van transfer from Puerto Princesa to El Nido (roundtrip). All the rest of our tours in El Nido were done separately. Private Van Transfer (roundtrip) PHP 11,000 Underground River Tour PHP 11,700 The total package cost PHP 22,700 for six persons for a day trip. This private tour was made possible because we traveled as a family of six at that time. oliveolc from Ontario, Canada

Hello Florencio! I booked our private van transfer from Puerto to Marygold Inn, El Nido and back with Harbour Bay Travel and Tours (affiliated with Marygold). There were six of us and for a roundtrip I paid 11,000 Philippine pesos at that time. Go to MaryGold website. E-mail them (they're prompt to respond) and ask if they have a public van transfer which will be cheaper if you are traveling alone. Hope this will help! oliveolc Ontario, Canada
