We were 'winging it' in El Nido. My partner scouted this part of town for mid-range accommodation. She had been shown a room, and was happy.
When we checked in, there was not a similar room available with a decent sea-view. The room was tatty and small; it had a double bed and an unnecessary single bed meaning there was very little space at all. The shower trickled...
As we'd been on the road for a while, we tried the Wifi and that was very intermitent.
There seemed to be a plethora of staff - all lounging around in the 'public areas' glued to the television - it was like they would draw lots when a customer needed to be seen!
After check-in, we walked past another similarly priced hotel; asked to see a room and immediately returned here to check-out.
Shame because it's in a great location but it was a great idea moving so soon!

My stay in Lally and Abet was bad, and this spoiled my entire El Nido experience.

In all fairness, there are some good things there, but the negatives simply "outshone" these and after two nights, we shifted over to Taiyo cottages (which was far better) for the remainder of the stay.

Negatives -
1) They insisted on an advance payment even though we were coming after just 2 days. We had to run helter skelter for this. Finally they picked up our payment only on the day of our arrival in El Nido! So what was the need??

2) The beachfront cottage was the only one with air con. The other one with air con was located in a concrete building. The air con was ineffective so we had to ask for a fan (which they were good enough to quickly supply)

3) The resort does not have a generator. Electricity is only from 2 pm to 6 am. Hence it was stuffy! Have they not heard of generators or solar power?? Especially when they charge 2500 pesos per night?

4) The door to the beach was broken and kept locked. Hence despite having a beach facing room, we always had to walk around the resort just to step on the beach! What was the point then of having a beach front room and a resort next to the beach??

5) The CR was not clean. It showed definite signs of aging.

6) The water pressure was pathetic. Everytime our neighbouring cottage had a bat / flushed their WC, water would stop in our bath room and vice versa. Our neighbour actually had the audacity to ask us if we could stop using the bathroom as they wanted to have a shower after their island hopping trip. I politely told him to stuff himself.

7) There was no room cleaning service for the 3 days we stayed there. Did we have to tell them if we wanted our room to be cleaned? If so, they never informed us of that!

8) Our dishes from a drink that we had on day 1 remained on our porch till we checked out. No one bothered to take a round around the resort / clean up things.

9) The restaurant is stuffy - despite being open air and with a fan.

In all fairness, somethings were good... sadly not good enough to keep us staying...

1) The garden was well tended - I would have stayed in a garden facing room if only it had an air con.

2) They had a calachuchi tree with lots of flowers - whose aroma was absolutely intoxicating. you could smell it all around the resort

3) The free breakfast was good

4) The view from the restaurant upstairs is good - a little sea, a lot of trees and greenery

We moved out.

My advice : There are only 2-3 places along El Nido town proper beach front which are worth staying at - these are the star places. It is far better to stay along Caalan beach. Taiyo cottage is excellent. Hippo campe is good, but secluded. Caalan resort is very good, but pricey.

Response from LallyandAbet, Manager at Lally and Abet Beach Cottages
Responded Jul 6, 2013
Hi, We truly appreciate your honest comprehensive comments as these would assist us in improving our services. 1. As with most hotels/resorts, both small and big ones, it has been our practice to ask for advance payment/reservation fee since we have very limited number of rooms. In case we reserve rooms and guests are no-show on the date of arrival, it would be business lost for us, especially if we have to turn away some walk-in guests to accommodate your reservation. Advance payments protect hotels against late cancellations and no-shows. However, we have taken note of this concern and will study the best way to deal with such circumstances. 2. Most of our rooms are already air-conditioned, and have been able to sufficiently provide cold air. Our sincerest apologies if you felt that the air-conditioning unit in your room was inefficient. We would be checking all units to ensure that they are still properly functioning. With regards to the fan rooms, we are maintaining 5 fan rooms, to cater to some guests who specifically request fan rooms, especially during the cooler months. 3. The issue of electricity is a town-wide concern in El Nido. We do have a generator, which we sometimes utilize, especially if there are power interruptions beyond the town-wide interruption schedule of 6am to 2pm, but because it is very difficult to send gasoline from Manila to El Nido to power the generator, we are unable to use this regularly. It is an issue that we have been continually dealing with, and we are still finding the most feasible solution. We have also looked into solar panels, but these are not cost efficient enough, if we want to maintain a relatively affordable rate for our accommodations. Also, since most guests are out on island or in-land tours during the hours of power interruption, using the generator during these hours are simply not cost efficient and environment friendly. 4. We have temporarily closed this access to the beach because there are El Nido visitors not staying in Lally and Abet that are using this door to get from the beach to the main road. To ensure the security and privacy of our guests, and to guarantee that only people checked in at Lally and Abet can access our facilities, this has been closed for the time being. 5. We are working on continually improving our facilities, and we appreciate that you have brought this to our attention. 6. Same with the problem of electricity, El Nido is simply one of the remote tourist places in the Philippines that is yet to receive sufficient help from the government. El Nido has no central supply of water, and each establishment is tasked to dig and find their own source of water supply. This is a problem that most homes and establishments in El Nido town face, and as with the electricity, we are doing our best to find a solution to this issue. 7 & 8. We only clean the rooms upon request, and you should have been informed of this upon check-in. This concern has been noted, and we are bringing it up with the on-site manager, as the front desk personnel is tasked to advise guests of this practice. 9. Our apologies for this. We are looking into ways to improve air circulation in the restaurant area. The positive points you mentioned in your review are sincerely appreciated.

...not anymore once you discover you got the room at the very end with no view, no reliable running water - not even for the toilet! - and nobody there who can actually fix it!! Not great when you're coming from a day trip on a boat and want nothing more than a shower to go on with your day. The worst thing was - they had another room available but just wouldn't move us there!! Or didn't know how to... at least that's the impression we got.

Breakfast was not great either and the girl at the front desk who checked us in - not even sure she worked there, seemed like she was just helping out? - was no help about day trips and tours.

I really don't like to complain but this time I felt I had to say something, at least to warn you guys here.
This place is in serious need of someone in charge who can take action when there are problems and give helpful advice when asked about the local area!! We asked for a refund at the end because this was obviously not what we paid for, but of course they only referred us to their regional office in Manila with our request. Let's see...

We were visiting in El Nido with my friend in April and we had to stay one night at this hotel because cottages where we were staying rest of time were full. We had foreign currencies with us on our suitcases and while we were sleeping one of the housekeepers went through our stuff and took biggest bills from there. My friend noticed that he is missing his money and after that i checked mine and same thing there... We went back to hotel and tried to solve this thing with staff but they were everything else than helpful. They claimed that we are cheating and told us lies and more lies. We went to police and they told us that owner of this hotel is brother of their former police mayor so they cant do anything for this... One of the housekeepers was helpful and investigated this thing and found out that her colleague had changed currencies and amounts that we lost on money exchange. So we went to police station and police caught this one housekeeper and when police took money from her wallet there was at least 10 different currencies there... total worth of maybe 1000€, quite much different currencies for philippino housekeeper. So we got our money back but one thing is sure: i will NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL again. There was also some more to complain about room but this is one big reason why nobody should go to this hotel. Hotel has bad reputation in El Nido but we didn't know that before we went there. They also promised that breakfast is included in price but when we tried to go for breakfast they were asking for some extra fee. DO NOT GO!

Hi, We are truly very sorry for that experience you had to endure with our former staff. We have released that particular staff immediately after that incident, as we treat theft and dishonesty very seriously, and the owners and manager do not condone such acts. Also with regards to the free breakfast, please accept the management's sincere apologies. We aim to provide our guest with good experiences and memories of El Nido, and it is with very much regret that we have deeply failed you.

I don't even know where to begin, we arrived and the hotel was overbooked, the receptionist had to sent us to a different hotel 10 min away, the "funniest part" was that even her didn't know where our "new" hotel was. Since we were at a different hotel and after arguing with them, they had to sent a van to pick us up in the morning for breakfast (which was included in the booking) and had to be at the time that they wanted.
We went in 2 tours with them around the islands, the 1st one was good, however, the 2nd one the boat broke and we spent 4h in high sea at some point some local fisherman helped us and we went to shore. After speaking with the reception they rejected any kind of responsibilities.
Bottom line, Awful reception staff, awful hotel.
A special thanks to Jake.

14 of us stayed here as part of the g adventures tour.

It is in a good location and the grounds are nicely designed but it is suffering from poor management.

The two receptionists deserve a special mention. Imagine if you will the most demotivated, miserable character you could hope to meet. Double it, and you have the "Lally & Abet front of house team".

They perform their daily "how not to run a reception" shows from 07:00 until 21:00. Entrance is free.
Customer requests seemed to be ignored, or carried out under sufferance and one word answers were the norm.
One poor couple came in asking politely whether they had availability.
"No" came the unhelpful monosyllabic answer, without barely looking up.
I could imagine them wearing "Happy to hinder" name badges.

Wifi looked promising to start with , with four to choose from, but two didn't work (so switch them off!) and the other two were so slow that they were next to useless. If you're looking for a place with reliable wifi, don't stay here.

The room wasn't serviced once in our four night stay. The bin was overflowing by the end and the rough towels smelt of sweat and linen felt like it was from the 1960s

Breakfast was slow (25mins) which, given almost all options were made up of a combination of about 7 different ingredients, seemed inefficient.

This place has potential. Fix the wifi, give the staff some hospitality and motivational training and get some fresh towels and linen and you'd have a reasonable place.

But as it stands, it thoroughly deserved it's current 12 out of 12 rating.

After a 6 hour trip from Puerto Princesa we got to this place, it looked "okay" but not what we saw in pictures. We prebooked an prepaid online but it was worthless. they were overbooked. Then we had to wait 1 hour until they find us a place to stay. Finally the receptionist found us rooms somewhere but she was not sure where. So she asked some tricycles to take us there and we had to stop several times to ask locals for that place. Finally we got there but it was a definately much cheaper plae (not a hotel, but somebody's house). As they never refunded us, they clearly won some extra cash with us.
It was worthless to discuss, The staff is incompetent and there is no manager on site to help you.
As we also had breakfast included and this new place didn't even had a restaurant, they sent a van everyday at 8:00 to take us to have breakfast. The breakfast itself wasn't easy either. We always had to wait +/- 45 minutes to be served. One day I asked for water instead of the coffee and they charged me for that because it wasn't included in the breakfast menu.
Well, I cannot go on because it will be too much to read, because problems never stopped. Staff needs serious training in hospitality and f&b.
If you decide to book this I wish you good luck. It has a huge potential and I hope it gets better quickly.

I booked here in advance for our next summer trip. I specifically chose their grand villa (beachfront) that is good for THREE adults. We are a family of three consisting of 2 adults and a child yet I still availed their room for THREE adults following the instructions from their website that my 10-year old child is already considered an adult. I paid the pre-payment amount to secure our booking for the dates I had chosen. Because I want everything well-planned, I asked Abet,(I believe he's one of the owners?) the total amount that I still need to pay for the accommodation, tours, basically everything. He informed me that the room I availed from their site is only for 2 persons and that I still need to pay extra for my son's accommodation and tours! Seriously, he insisted that the room I booked from them is only good for 2 persons even though I sent him a screenshot of the transaction I made from their site. This is something that I don't want somebody else to experience, especially the foreigners who will try to book from them. It's really a shame as a Filipino. I really hope they won't do this trick to others. In the end, I decided to cancel my reservations from them even if I won't be able to get back the money that paid for the reservation. Try to compute the package they offer and you'll be surprised to find that you'll spend even more than the others are offering. Also if you try to ask them about the total amount you need to pay from them most likely they won't respond or tell you, that's part of their trick. They won't give you the full details even if you ask. There are a lot of hotels, inns in El Nido, choose wisely to avoid any hazzle when you get there.

Hi, Rest assured that all information contained in our website is very transparent and not meant to deceive. Since your booking was made via DIRECT WITH HOTELS (a third party booking engine embedded in our official website), it is clearly stated in the booking engine that children that would be considered free of charge are those age 0 to 2 (as clearly indicated in the header). Adults are age 3+ (also clearly stated in the header). Therefore, the booking that should have been made in your case was for 3 adults. If you needed any assistance with the booking or if you had any questions on the rates, it would have helped if you asked before making the booking so any further clarifications have been made. All information you needed was already in the booking page, and, as any prudent person would do, it would have helped if you read through them before making your booking. Also, we would appreciate if you can give an honest review. It states that you stayed with us in MAY 2013, but the booking you made, which you subsequently cancelled due to you misunderstanding the rates and extra person policy, was for APRIL 2014. Additionally, kindly read and revisit the Trip Advisor guidelines in posting a review since it clearly violates one of the guidelines as stated that you can only review establishments that you have actually visited, and experiences in connection with the reservation process is not one of the things you can post about here.

Thanks to this horrible place, we ruined our El Nido trip. We took a full day tour with Lally and Abet to the lagoons and other beaches. The boat broke down every now and then, and the captain was extremely rude. Because if his incompetence, we could not complete the tour and were able to cover ONLY 3 out of the 8 places we were supposed to cover. Then the driver left us 200 meters into the sea and we were wet until our shoulders when we came out of the water. The hotel staff was totally rude, and instead of listening to our complaints, they started shouting at us. The rooms are very below average and full of mosquitoes.
Avoid this place at all costs.

Wrong booking, wrong reservation, staff with very limited control over the English language (not being my mother tongue either), extra charges for every single cup of tea or fruit juice during breakfast, failing boat enginge during island hopping, serious difficulties to get a credit card accepted for payment, and a lousy bus for the transfer back to Puerto Princesa - in short: trouble from A to Z, these are Lally and Abet!

Hello, We paid roughly for 5 days $350 USD per room. It was holy week when we went so it was really busy and pricing was higher than expected...... but our stay was amazing, good rooms, bathroom was renovated, the breakfast buffet was " ok " enough for a quick and light breakfast. Overall good host and clean. I also really liked that this was at the " end of the strip " so it wasn't loud at night.
