Detailed Reviews
“My stay at Bella Athena Garden in Palawan was truly memorable! The resort is tucked away in a lush, tropical setting, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. The gardens were impeccably maintained, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation.
Our villa was spacious, clean, and beautifully designed with modern touches that still felt connected to the natural surroundings. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, always making sure I'm comfortable. The on-site restaurant served delicious local dishes, and the fresh seafood was a highlight!
The only downside was the limited transportation options if you wanted to explore the island independently, but the hotel offered convenient tours and transfers. Also, the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty in some areas, though it encouraged us to unplug and enjoy the beauty of Palawan.
Overall, Bella Athena Garden is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of Palawan in a relaxing, boutique setting. I’d definitely stay here again!”

Couldn’t recommend more, amazing hotel with lovely staff.
In a great location about 10 minute walk from the main El Nido town. Staff were really lovely and helpful, able to help us book tours/ferry’s and taking us into town on a tuktuk.
Room was spotless and very nicely decorated. One thing I will say is it is quite loud at night due to geckos and frogs etc but this is the same in many other places.

Very beautiful, environment friendly place 5-10 min walk or tricycle from town. Breakfast is delicious. The only thing is that I wouldn't recommend booking a trip with the hotel. The hotel is family owned and all people are very welcoming and helpful. Thanks for the good music and warm atmosphere.

We arrived at the Bella Athena Garden with high expectations after reading other reviews. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience despite the staff’s best efforts. There was no running water for 8-10 hours on two separate occasions. Almost more importantly, the toilet in our room didn’t evacuate the contents, leaving us with undesirable odors and contents for hours on end. We reported to the staff repeatedly throughout our 4 day stay but it was never truly rectified. Less important, the internet connectivity was basically non functional. Again, the staff attitude and effort wasn’t lacking but our basic needs weren’t met. So sorry to report but felt obliged after reading so many complimentary reviews. I’ll reserve the toilet photos as they don’t need to be shared.

There are a number of positives and negatives to staying at Bella Athena, and most of which we didn’t fully appreciate until we actually arrived in el nido, so here’s a heads up:
Many guests at hotels close to the Main Street complained of noise, particularly construction noise on the new hotels, but Bella Athena is quite a way away from the town and is very quiet
+ Some rooms (and the breakfast spot) overlook a quaint, small field with cows and chickens, and nice views of the mountain
+ The neighbouring hotels and restaurant are all owned by one family so they insist it’s extremely safe in this area, and all staff were friendly
+ This hotel is about half the price of many hotels in the town area
+ We booked our tours through the hotel which was of no extra charge and could be done in advance (however you can book van transfers cheaper by going direct with the company)
+ There is good air con (which also doubles as a fan if you don’t like sleeping with air con) in the rooms.
+ the laundry service is of course more expensive that outside the hotel, but it is washed and air dried on site so you don’t need to worry about your bathers being destroyed in a drier or you clothes hanging next to a dusty road
+ Cadlao resort is a sister hotel to Bella Athena (all in the family) so we went to sit by their pool one day, I’m sure you’d be allowed to swim there if you mention that you are a guest of Bella Athena, and sometimes they have special events at Cadlao (like a bbq) that you can join in too.
On the negative...
- wifi is quite poor (that’s el nido for you) but mobile (cellphone) reception is usually ok.
- Water pressure is very low so our showers took quite a long time.
- Rooms are basic - they’re quite small, no TV, very basic toiletries, no safe, no chair, there’s a rack but no coat hangers, no mini bar or fridge for your medications or perishable food. There’s no bottled water (which is great for reducing waste) but you have to remember to request a jug of water for your room during reception hours (I.e. before 8pm) otherwise you have no drinking water.
- The biggest downside for us is the location. While it is quiet and secluded, there is only a small, half-sand half-concrete road that leads to this part of el nido. Even the tricycles can’t make it down the laneway so each hotel has it’s own ‘chariot’ or ‘tuk tuk’ (the style that’s imported from India and quite narrow) to pick up and send guests to the town. If you plan to stay out later than 8pm you have to walk back (passing a cemetery, which for us is no problem, but some might be freaked out) (oh and don’t forget a torch!) and you also need a phone to contact the hotel if you need to arrange to be picked up from the town within reception hours.
A helpful tip: look up “lally and abet” on google maps, you’ll see that any hotels EAST of lally and abet that are on the beach or close to Bella Athena area, all have no main road access (meaning you need a tuk tuk, chariot, or your legs to walk) and any hotel WEST of lally and abet are accessible by any vehicle, and easy to walk to and from via the beach or the main roads. It seemed to us that another quiet, but easier to get to area of el nido was the hotels west of the main town (look up the location of a seafood restaurant called “angel wish” and anything west of there is probably quiet, affordable, but conveniently located).
We didn’t spend much time there but the area called corong corong is even further out and does require a tricycle or other transport to get to and from el nido town proper, so it might end up adding up paying tricycles to get to and from your tour points or food and shopping in town.
If you are catching a bus or van to el nido from another town, ask them if you can be dropped to Lally and Abet (that is the junction where the tricycles can’t go down on the beach) otherwise, you’ll need a Tricycle from the bus terminal in corong corong to lally and abet (and tricycles in el nido are famously expensive for the short distances)

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They were always ready to help with any questions or arrangements. We rented a scooter from them for several days and had a great time using it to explore the area and go to some more distant beaches. They also helped with our island hopping tour, transportation from PPS, and transportation to ENI. The breakfast each morning was delicious and they had several nice options to choose from. The location just outside the center of El Nido was perfect... close enough to walk but far enough to get some peace and quiet. There are several small local shops near the hotel to buy supplies and do laundry, so it was no inconvenience. If we return to El Nido, we will definitely stay at the Bella Athena Garden a gain.

Bella Athena Garden is the best hotel we had in the Philippines. The place is beautiful, spotlessly clean and conveniently locatedjust away from the city centre, as to avoid all the mayhem of the tourists, but has this free trycicle ride at your disposal to get to town faster. Mind you, the walk is only about 10 minutes and along the beach, so...The breakfast is super-yummy and the staff are the most genuine, lovely people you'll ever meet. We could have not chosen better.
