A nice and quiet resort at the farthest west-end of Big Lalaguna. We stayed here on days 1-4 of June 2013, in a small beach-front cottage room. It was low-season and there were few guests but it was as we would really like it, nice and quiet.
The service people in Campbell's were very accommodating. The food servings were big enough for 1 or more persons, we often shared. Meals were mostly meats (chicken, beef, pork), seafoods were a bit more expensive.
There was wifi at the restaurant good enough for internet browsing and emails.
I learned from other reviewers and locals that snorkeling is very good here. Our family did snorkeling in the sea right in front of the beach where there are plenty of marine creatures to see (anemone fish, puffer fish, parrot fish among a lot of other colorful fishes). Our 5 year old daughter really enjoyed one of her first snorkeling experience in Big Lalaguna, now she prefers to call (as we all do) 'Big Lalaguna' as 'the beach' in Puerto Galera.
Note: In Puerto Galera, we have stayed in some resorts (White beach, Palangan, Coco beach) but we would come back to Big Lalaguna.

Campbell's Beach Resort is located in Sabang, Puerto Galera make sure that is place you go from Batangas Port. The room is clean and cozy and can hear the waves hitting the shore even though the room door is closed. The sound you are hearing as if you are being lullaby by it.The staff are accommodating and professional. The food generously serve, look good and the taste as if you are in a five star hotel.

The beach has a lot's of corals and abundant with marine life its very good for snorkeling besides this you can walk along Sabang Beach area and can find other restaurant to try on. I will definitely go back there next year in Cambell's Beach Resort. Much better than Boracay in my opinion.

Campbells Beach Resort, is a very special place. It is located away at the end of Big Lalaguna, this small hotel and dive club is the perfect location for relaxing. It is walkable to the Sabang centre(10 minutes) but far enough away from any hassle and a very safe area.
I like places which has breathtaking view, nice weather and less crowded.
The hotel rooms are basic, but clean and with air conditioning, with the sea view and onto sunset which is brilliant for relaxing. As for the resort itself, the staff are very friendly and caring, they are able to meet all your needs while giving you enough privacy to enjoy. I felt very comfortable, relaxed and enjoy to the max during the stay. I am grateful for the helpful staff. By the next day all the staff knew me, and always called me by name.
I particularly love the food and the chef there. They have a very wide variety of food and drinks. it is realy very tasty and everything was reasonably priced.
I dived two times with Scandi Dive Club, it was great service, beautiful dives, very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere. The dive centre is very well organised and the dive team are experienced, safety conscious and great fun to dive with. They obviously all love their jobs.
Snorkelling is possible swim all time near with hotel.
I stayed only for 5 days, but I will definitely come back again! And of course, I can recomend it for everyone.
I am grateful all who helped make my stay so wonderful!!! Thanks

Best regards, Boris

We stayed at Campbell's in June for a quick 4 day dive trip. It was perfect! From the time we arrived until the time we left the staff was always courteous, helpful and always had a smile. The location was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet with easy access from Sabang beach ( just walk 10 min from the pier along the beach line and over a small hill. We found the beach path when we followed a little old lady with a basket of fruit on her head.) If you stay on a Sunday they have a really nice BBQ on the patio and they are one of the only places on that beach that serves ICY cold beer. I only gave it four stars because they had some issues with the power going out during the night which kills the AC so we'd wake up in a ball of sweat but I'm sure they'll get that little issue fixed. We did our diving with their sister co., Scandi divers. Nothing but glowing things to say about them as well.

I´ve always prefered Big La Laguna, which is the perfect location, if you want a laid back accomodation, away from the noisy and crowded Sabang, which is the center of nightlife.
I like to go out in Sabang, and retire to Big La Laguna, walking along the beach with a sky full of stars(weather permitting), fully satisfied after a complete day of relaxation, whatever that means to you, and I´m happy to announce that the little stretch going from Small La Laguna to Big La Laguna, is now illuminated at night, so you don´t have to bring a torch, or worry about falling over!
Campbells is equipped with DVD and flat screen tv, and you can borrow music from the restaurant, which I find as an extra bonus, listening to music in your room. Other than that, there is plenty of hot water, clean, nice view of the lagoon, and the staff is friendly and helpfull, making it a pleasant stay, and therfore a place we would like to return to.
Since Scandinavian Divers is under same ownership, you can book your diving as well, which is run by experienced divers. The access to the beach is easy, without too many boats, and a perfect place to take up snorkelling. Though many dead corals now cover parts of the entry to the water, I still believe that it is a good location, for those who wants to learn to dive or snorkel, or just needs a more quiet end to enjoy your valuable holiday.
I cannot speak for other people and there own experiences, but I used to work and live here as a diving instructor, and there is just something about Big La Laguna that makes it in favor compared to the rest of the locations. But at the end it is quiet......

I have such mixed feelings about this place. Overall I was happy with our stay but I still had some big frustrations. We spent 4 nights, in 2 rooms.

The good: location is at the end of La Laguna beach, so avoids the noise and craziness, but is still a close walk when you want to experience it. That was my big reason for choosing this place. The deluxe room we had was fine, though nothing outstanding. View over the ocean was great. Staff does not allow vendors or other non-guests onto the property, which is great. At other hotels we saw, non-guests smoking and drinking seemed to outnumber the guests and would definitely affect the experience.

The negatives: their website (and the staff in daily talk) calls the rooms 'cottages' so we were expecting exactly that - a separate cottage. Be aware that these are motel quality ROOMS, not cottages or cabins. Cleanliness is mediocre at best. Add poor cleaning to old and tired rooms, and you get a mediocre room experience. Staff was all great, very friendly. But then, so are pretty much all filipinos.

When, after 2 nights I was tired of sharing a room and took an available 'family cottage' At a higher cost, I was quite disappointed with the room. Dirty and grubby, with a terrible mattress. It felt like springs covered with a sheet. Bathroom does not have a shower stall or curtain. Yet the room costs more than the deluxe!

Restaurant food is average, nothing great, but they do charge less than other places so it's fine.

Be prepared to pay in pesos or pay a 4% surcharge.

So, overall, just fine. Just know what you are getting into.

Response from davedo20, Owner at Campbell's Beach Resort
Responded Jan 8, 2016
A couple of corrections . We do not charge a surcharge for payment not in Pesos. We accept US dollars and Euro s happily. In fact our room and diving prices are listed in USD. The cottages are considerably less in price than the Deluxe rooms. They are double cottages ( 2 rooms in each of 3 cottages). The cottages are our most popular rooms with guests returning again and again to stay in these small cottages since they are right on the beach only 5 meters from the waters edge. If the cleanliness is not up to guests standards then it not up to our standards either. We have made changes in the cleaning personnel to improve the room cleanliness. We are burdened with small bathrooms in these small beach cottages because there is no room to expand on the property which is right on the beach.

As a Danish girl travelling the Philippines I stayed at Campbell's for two weeks while doing my PADI Advanced Open Water and Deep Diver specialty at Scandi's and I loved every second of it! Campbell's is situated in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings, the staff is so kind and the instructors and divemasters at Scandi's were a great laugh yet still very professional. I just had the best diving experiences of my life!

I was only supposed to stay at Campbell's for some days, in the purpose of completing a PADI Open Diver-course. However, I ended up extending my stay there to, in the end, lasting more than a week! Why? Because Campbell's is situated in the most beautiful and peaceful bay, run by a lovely and carrying staff, and offers great deals both in regards to food (really good and affordable menu!) and whole-day activities such as snorkling, scootering around and paddle boarding. My family and I felt so welcomed while staying there. We were adviced and helped beyond the necessary by a very hospitable, respectful (but also humourous!) staff, and we always felt completely at home and relaxed.

I would recommend to anyone going to Puerto Galera. Having looked at several hotels in Puerto Galera and Sabang (online and IRL), I can honestly say that Campbell's to me remains the most attractive place to stay in Puerto Galera, both in terms of comfort, price, food and beverages, staff, activity deals and offers, and diving. One can literally go snorkling off of the hotel's doorstep!

It has been 20 years since we have visited Big Lalaguna. When we arrived at Sabang I couldn,t believe all the development and how crowded it was. We walked to lalaguna and I was afraid I would be disappointed to see the change. When we walked around the corner and there it was. Almost the same as when we left 20 years ago. We love Campbells because it is at the far end of the beach and it is very quiet because you can,t go any farther. The resort was clean the beer was cold, the shower was hot,the food was great and the staff and Thomas the manager were all friendly and they went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We will defiantly go back again and we won't wait 20 years!!

We have been visitting this place almost once a year, for the last 12 years, and it just keep getting better.

We always try to get room 13, that is the last of the 3 penthouse rooms.
It have a great view, and are quiet, as we like it.

The always friendly staff, managers and owners, are doing their best to make you feel good.
I have a bad back, and where given a special mattress the day we arrived :))
We had laudry that we needed quick, and had it less than 20 hours later:))

The food is nice, and the diving, at Scandi Divers, are perfect.
If you want to snorkel, the reef is at your door step.
So all in all, just the best place to be if you like full value for your money.

How far from Sabang is it? Can I get safe, reliable transport to and from Sabang especially late at night ?
Answer from Shiela A
40 contributions15 helpful votes
Very near...in fact if you don't have too much luggage you could walk from Sabang to Big La Laguna. That would take you 10-15mins tops. There is a set of stairs hidden in between the rock formation at the end of Sabang (just right after the hotel called the red sun... if you follow the shore line you wouldn't miss it). Option 2. You can take a boat from Sabang to Big La Laguna for 200php/head and would take only 5mins... The last option and the longest route is to take a tricycle. Take this option only if you want to see Puerto Galera's jungle and if you can tolerate a very bumpy ride. This should be around 250php and will take 20-30mins (depending on your driver's mad driving skills. :) )
