arrived Sabang without any reservations, this penthouse was last available and good price, I had to book online with credit card. wifi was ok, couple of brown outs everyday in Sabang, not unusual, can't remember if they had a generator? air-conditioning was good, room was clean and had its own private deck and small bath/spa and sitting area,. there was a nice upper deck pool outside the fronts of these two roof top rooms, was really nice and worth the value price. it was not ADA accessible and I didn't see any disabled persons at this hotel while staying there. its in a good location, close to all services in Sabang and quiet at night. it has a restaurant, I didn't eat there, so won't comment, it was busy most nights while there. I would stay here again and recommend to others, staff was helpful and attentive. the area has many diving options and motorbike rentals if you like.

We had book 3 nights in an ocean view room for last January 2020. A few days before our scheduled arrival “Taal Volcano” Erupted. The warnings were at level 4. The transportation to Puerto Galera was not running(the ferry boats from the Batangas Port to Sabang Beach were not operating). There are no flights to that area. Our reservation was paid in full!!! We were forced to cancel the reservation since there was no transportation available at that time. I contacted the booking company who contacted the resort. The resort refused to refund my payment !!! Beware, don’t pay them before you stay because Mrs. Wheng will not refund your money for any reason. This was not our fault, but an act of nature. Totally unfair and I cannot recommend this resort to anyone!

Booked two rooms for our stay. We have total of 6 adults and 1 child. Room #7 is adequate for my family. Room #2 got the big bed (king size), this one is different, the sink is outside the comfort room. (this is funny). The cleaners are very nice and polite including the reception. I woke up in the middle of the night around 2:30 am because of a man on the phone just in front of the balcony. So yeah, messes my sleep for sure. In the morning, i dont wake up because of my alarm, it is because of noises coming from outside even with that glass enclosure MAN! You can hear them. They love to talk loud in front of the porch. These are locals. They like the shade in front of the rooms. Couple of them talk loudly. And then when you go out to enjoy your coffee then they start to bother you. You need boat? Island hopping and on and on.. my God! The hotel have generator which is a good thing because "Ursula typhoon" was in Mindoro last week. Wifi is not strong enough. When the signal on the TV is out, wifi is out too. I only have the chance to connect on and off to wifi from 23-24 of Dec. then from 25-26 no WIFI. So if you're looking for a reliable wifi, maybe this hotel is not for you or bring your own. Even we are at the front beach i dont think that the beach is clean enough. So No! we didn't go swimming.

This is an OK Hotel with a good staff and Restaurant. The current problem with Puerto Galera is all of the street pedlars that are constantly harassing the tourists. This No security at this hotel to prevent the constant barrage of sellers. One even went so far as to poke me to make sure I was listening. " No thank you" means nothing. They will continue until you are stern in your No! This is unfortunate as it is a blight on the entire area. The boat we hired would not go near the places described stating we had to transfer to another boat,, for another fee.... Outrageous,,,no need to return,,,

I was there in PG to dive but this place was highly recommended to me. I took their recommendation and wasn’t disappointed except for the really poor internet connection. But than again. I was diving. Staff was great and lined everything up for me with airport to hotel shuttle. Ask for the speedboat Hap-go or Seatax for quick ride to the island (30 min) for 800 pesos or take the 2.0hr ferry 300 pesos. I will do the 800 pesos every-time. See you all Jan 2020 for 21 days.

Lets start with the cons. Typhoon was hitting so there were somewhat frequent brown outs. They do have a generator to keep things going, but our hot water was out a few times in the morning which was inconvenient. Only reason for 1 star mark off. but that is my only complaint. Pros: Very friendly staff. Wifi. comfortable clean rooms. Just far enough from the main street that you are not getting too much outside noise from people. Large room for the one we had. Pool was decent. Since there was a typhoon i did not get to really get out much but my girlfriend and i still had a great time.

Papa Fred's was a great choice for anyone looking for great, clean, basic accommodations. The staff were super friendly and helped me book a moped ride over to White Beach for the day. My room was on the ground level and had a great little porch to relax on. It was a super easy walk straight from the dock where the boat let me off. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe and looked after at Papa Fred's.

This hotel is located at Sabang beach, currently the Sabang pier is under renovation and construction so boat cannot stop here. Need about 10minutes walk from the main street. Average hotel in term of the pricing.

So let me preface this with perhaps my expectations of Puerto Galera and Papa Fred's both were just too high. The glossy pictures and video of a clean pool and hot tub and nice place on the beach front were deceiving to say the least but to arrive and find a barely existent island infrastructure, a very terrible odor of raw sewage every time I stepped outside was too much. The room, for what it was, was clean-ish. The air conditioning we paid extra for on the rooftop didn't work. The bed was a very hard mattress on a platform with only a sheet and it was stiff and smelled badly like it had been hung outside to dry. The water in the shower and sink smelled of sewage too. The pool was really a mosquito cesspool and the chairs were rotting rubber pads. So, besides all of that there is the island itself. I will say from a distance it's gorgeous! The scenery is beautiful and the water is clear as you come in. But the sewage and trash are heavy and the people are desperately poor and will hound you every time you walk out. The restaurant at Papa Freds was dirty and the food was more expensive than a really nice clean modern restaurant in Manila. There are girly bars literally everywhere and creepy men wandering around waiting for the right girl. There were sick and dying animals everywhere. There's just a dirty seedy vibe here. We chose not to stay but one of the four nights we booked. We can't get our money back but that's ok... It was really that bad. There was no way we were going to dive... Just simply didn't trust the dive gear, the shops or anything about it.

Responded 19 Nov 2018
Thank you for taking the time to share with us your opinion on your recent stay at Papa Fred's Beach Resort. We strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please be assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. But in review well how can I say. # The air con is included in the room price. You didn't paid extra! Air-con was working by the way. # You are the first which complain about our mattress since we open 4 years ago. Also nonsense! # The water do not smelled to sewage coz there we have our own deep well. No public water! # Yes its small pool but at least some pool for our customer and it will be cleaned every day! # According the Steakhouse kindly let me know what should be dirty? Also if you can't afford the food why you eat here? You see our prices in the menu. We stand for quality food in our restaurant. # etc... In my opinion you find many way for complaining which isn't truth by the way coz you feel not comfortable i guess. When you check out we ask you personal if everything was ok. You replied to us "ALL FINE" We wanna go Manila now. So if you have any complain (if there is one) why you never talk to us? The entire team is looking forward to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon again. Thanks again for staying with us.

We stayed in room 11....propably the best place for to stay in Sabang. Highlight is the whirlpool on he terrace...in combination with the beach chair and a large rattan couch just perfect for to enjoy the sunset and a romantic night under a wonderful starheaven. Resort is connected with the best restaurant...Papa Freds steakhouse. Just walking distance from the pier.
