This was our third visit to Buri in the last 5 years or so. The first 2 times we visited the staff had nice traditional uniforms, this time we were greeted with one member of staff wearing combat shorts and a t-shirt, not a great start.
We were informed that the resort has been taken over by a new management company, this is the reason for all the changes.
Although the staff were always friendly and helpful I feel some of them need additional training ie I was lying at the poolside one beautiful evening and all of a sudden one member of staff shouts at the top of his voice to get the attention of another member of staff on the other side of the pool, not very professional.
While eating breakfast the management were having a meeting at the table beside us, talking about yesterdays electric usage and k/w per hour, not very professional, these meetings should not be held were the guests are.
The last evening we arrived back to the resort to find the staff having a game of volleyball, shouting and laughing at the top of their voices, apparently it was for a photo shoot for buri website. I'm highly suspicious of this as it was nearly dark and was also cloudy, not a great photo opportunity in my opinion, I believe the staff are just very bored at the resort and are trying to let of some steam.
The management need to give additional training to the staff, they really should be seen and not heard at a resort like Buri.
The place is starting to look a bit shabby, just a few things we noticed that were not like the first 2 times, umbrellas ripped and torn, cracks in the walls of the rooms and a lick of paint would be great also, the outside bathroom looked like it needed a fresh coat.
All in all we had a good 3 days but as I said the first 2 times were much better, staff were more professional, nice uniforms and they were seen and not heard.
I hope this review will help get Buri back to the good old days.

This place is absolute paradise!
Beautiful beautiful resort...everything is wonderful and soooooo well worth every penny! Peaceful, serene, and luxurious.

The manager, Helen, makes your happiness and welfare her personal responsibility. She is so very good at ensuring every detail of the resort is top notch, from the service, to the food, and the cleanliness of the room. Helen even went out of her way to arrange our day trips for us...this certainly isn't her job, and a bunch of extra work for her, but it has been very nice to have all our excursions charged to one bill at the end. Also knowing that the tours will have to answer to her if they are not good- is a comforting feeling.
Thanks to Helen, EVERY detail of our vacation has been considered for our comfort and enjoyment.

The staff has been lovely, so attentive, but not overbearing--perfection!!

Get the massages, it's worth it, but note that they have a number of routines and you should not expect them to change. They have their routine perfectly choreographed to fit exactly within the 60 mins.

We ate in Puerto Galera and Sabang...but the food at Buri resort is really the best around, no need to "chance" eating at other places.

The beds are hard (which is the norm in Asia) and we would've really really loved a soft pad on top to better suit our American soft bed desires. It'd be great if they could add some sort of thick foam padding as an option for us in the future. And also better chairs on the Villa patios, with comfortable back rests (the current ones are hard wood bars across your lower back).

Also, given that this place is in the tropical jungle, and there are critters everywhere, We were amazed at how clean and critter/bug-free the rooms are. It's definitely an uphill battle to keep nature out of the villas, and the staff does a lovely job at it.

Some wonderful things to note-
Everything is always clean and well cared for
The power plugs are US compatible
The air conditioning in the room works great!
Water is filtered/purified, so it's OK to have the ice.
The pool villa was wonderful, our private pool was always clean and refreshing...although we didn't use it much.

This place is amazing......

For Divers- The best dive shop is Asia Divers (Not tech Asia). We tried a handful of other shops and the equipment was old and/or the dive master was not very good. For some reason Dive Asia doesn't show up in trip advisor, but they are really the most professional and safest shop to dive with.

stayed in Buri last year and absolutely loved it! its not your typical family resort as facilities and activities are limited but if you want to get away from it all.....this is the place....

location: design of the resort has an air of modern/native touch.although its beside a village, i felt that privacy was protected.... i like the fact that there were no vendors forcing you to buy their goods ( not being snobbish but i opt to be in the resort to relax)

although its 15-20 minutes boat ride to buzzling Sabang beach i think the seclusion of Buri is what makes it special.

its a shame they have a small beach front area but you can always go to COCO if you get bored of the small but inviting pool.
or you can pre-arrange use of buri private boat for island hopping or snorkling

food: local food (ie. pansit daing na bangus and the likes...) taste brilliant!

rooms: felt like being in a modern nippa hut....i just wish they will supply the toiletries and provide new towels everyday

staff: very polite helpful and professional ( i like the fact that they wear uniforms). and they all (including the manager) clean the resort everyday to keep it spic and span!

buri is definitely the best resort in galera especially when renovation is finished- a bigger and better Buri i was told ...

We booked reservations with Buri for our relatives arriving from The Netherlands (August 6-8). A week before, we were communicating with the management about our preference and requests to make the stay memorable. Our booking was confirmed and the expectations were set. The day of check-in, we tried contacting them about pick-up at Muelle Port but they did not answered. We contacted them via FB Messenger, contact numbers (at the website) and via e-mail but NO REPLIES. Our guests rented a boat from Muelle to Buri only to find out that it was closed. It was such an inconvenience, to say the least. A day or two later we received their email informing us that the resort is closed and that we should contact the owner for refund of our booking. We sent them an email about the details and proof and up to now, they haven't replied yet. What they are doing is bad business. We hope they send us an email about this to resolve the issue, otherwise, they would get not only dissatisfied customers, but bad reputation as well (and if they do not pay back the booking costs, a demand letter at the very least).

Almost the perfect getaway until the last day.

My husband and I were looking for a nice and relaxing place to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary. Buri Resort was no doubt the perfect place for a getaway. We booked there for 3 days and 2 nights. The resort was exceptional and beautiful. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Food was okay but pricey. Until the very last day of our stay when some money was stolen from my husbands wallet that was already hidden on the edge of the headboard just to be safe but still had the kind of trust that no one will touch it. Unfortunately, all the good first impressions came down to disappointments. It's merely about the money that was stolen but how the management lacked of empathy towards us, their valuable guests. True enough it was one unforgettable vacation.

Im writing this as an awareness for Buri's future guests and for the resorts own sake. Yes they have an excellent service but when it comes down to these kind of incidents, I don't think they're very well trained. We didn't even feel that they cared that much despite of what happened. They said they'll look further into it but felt like they just want to get rid of us. Not even an email from them re assuring us that this won't happen again or for them to investigate their room service staff. We actually emailed them first to remind them again about the complaint. I think you guys get the point. It's
just very disappointing with the kind of treatment they give you on these kind of situation. You can never be too comfortable at a place like this.

Response from BuriMngr, Manager at Buri Resort & Spa
Responded Jan 19, 2015
Dear valued guest, We thank you for taking the time to review our property and appreciate your positive comments with regards to our staff & service. Your feedback is important to us as we use it to further improve our services and standards. After receiving your call at the front desk the management immediately conducted a thorough official investigation and review of CCTV footage in your husband’s presence, the initial findings of which were explained to you prior to you leaving the resort. The management also made a follow up call and e-mail apologizing again for this incident. Rest assured we treat such reports very seriously and have also undertaken additional precautionary measures in order to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Furthermore we do strongly encourage the use of the in-room safety deposit box for safekeeping of valuables. We sincerely hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back at Buri Resort & Spa and regain your confidence. Sincerely, The Management Buri Resort & Spa

I’ve been seeing ads crawling in for Buri Resorts and Spa on Facebook. So when I was told that we were booked there by a friend, I was a bit happy about it. Seeing some photos, (admittedly I did not research that much), I thought it would be a very nice place. We got there last Feb 20, 2016. We were very pleased with the tight coordination with the resort staff. They monitored our arrival from the pier. They were so helpful and courteous. But the facilities, the room and the food was not worth the trip at all!!!! We got a family villa room for P8,500++ just for the three of us. This rate did not even come with breakfast. The beach in front was just too ugly to swim in. The swimming pool is really no big deal. The 1 hour boat ride in an outrigger, in an open sea (shark infested) is not worth it. I would say, that room, should just have been priced at around P3,000+++. The towels and bed sheets were old already. Food was not great at all. Edible but nothing great. Over all, I feel that this resort is very well marketed, but over rated. I’ve seen mostly foreigners there. Maybe because they rely on what they see advertised on the net. Don’t be fooled. It’s not worth it. Plus, our room was located at the top of the resort. It took us 133 steps to get to our room. Not too relaxing at all. Fail

If you're into all day and all night (bad quality) karaoke, a dirty 'infinity pool', cockroaches in the room, no working internet, very basic food, no bathroom supplies, a remote location with no activities, a round down jet ski (certainly not working), a non existent beach (because too short and occupied by boats) and all this at a premium price, the this place is for you!

worst experience ever. After arriving from Infinity Resort (best experience ever) i unfortunately ended up here. employees (specifically the "supervisor" and other male employees wearing black shirts) are the worst i have ever faced in my life. Their spirit is broken, they are condescending and acting elite, extremely disrespectful. 10k php for this? you must be out of your mind.
instead of trying to accomodate the guest, they just say "no" and walk away without trying to offer alrernative solution. i could not believe it. Basically, i am a reasonable, decent person and at this place it did not matter; i had to beg to be treated with dignity and fight for any kind of attention or service. No way in hell i would ever return and i urge you to
do the same. To the hard working person out there please do not spend your money here. Depressing from every angle. Food awful and overpriced.

My partner gave me as a Christmas gift a voucher for Buri Resort from Deal Grocer as it is tagged a "luxury resort." I got excited because I have not been to Puerto Galera and I thought staying in a posh resort in a place that many consider "poor man's Boracay" is an excuse to brave the inconvenience of going there (2 hour drive plus an hour waiting for the boat, and a 75-minute boat ride).

Reservation - So I booked my voucher on January 14 for an overnight stay for May 18. The Manila office promptly sent me thru email a reservation confirmation. When I called on May 15 to re-confirm and ask for boat instructions, I was shocked when the staff couldn't find my reservation and advised me to reschedule as they're fully booked that weekend. I did not budge and sent them the reservation form they sent me last January even if they offered us a free upgrade if we moved our stay a week later. After a day of calls, thankfully, the resort staff were able to arrange something and confirmed our stay.

Arrival - After a chaotic experience at the Port of Batangas, we were finally on the boat to Muelle Port where we'd be picked up by Buri's boat. Upon arrival in Muelle, we were made to wait for 10 minutes as the boat brought another group to the resort. After waiting for 10 minutes and a 5 minute boat ride, we finally arrived at Buri Resort - 5.5 hours after we left Makati at 6:30am that morning.

- Upon arrival, our bags were carried by their crew who directed us to the restaurant where we were welcomed by Helen, the resort's resident manager. After the requisite registration, cold towels, and welcome drinks, we were escorted to our room - the basic garden villa - Vanda.

Room/Villa - The voucher was only for the basic garden villa so that's the only room I could review. And in this case, it seems overpriced:
- There's no TV in the room (for a PhP 5,000-PhP 6,000 worth, there's no TV!),
- No toiletries except shampoo, conditioner, and two small pieces of soap. No wash cloths. No room slippers, no laundry bags - which are all standard amenities for a hotel that tags itself as a top notch resort.
- No safety deposit box (we were not briefed if any is available within the resort)
- The lock of the sliding door is flimsy
- No wifi (Manila office advised us they have those Globe internet USBs per room but we did not find any)
- An old airconditioning unit that took more than an hour to cool even after a housekeeper/electrician, and Helen "checked" the aircon. Only until we switched on/off several times did the compressor outside the villa started to turn.

Facilities/Amenities - There's a restaurant and a bar, there's a spa (we did not try), a boat (overpriced of course!) for tours around Puerto Galera, and kayaks, No wifi, no library, no activities that are organized.
- We used the kayaks twice and the staff seemed not too keen to help us the first time, and were totally absent (the guard & strangers outside were the ones who brought down the paddles) the second time.
- We were able to negotiate with a boatman (much cheaper) to bring us around and when the resort saw him pick us up, we felt that the staff were giving him nasty glances as we did not get the boat from the resort.
- No PABX, or intercom system. Helen told us "it's being overhauled" so we had to text everytime we needed something - ie laundry bags for wet stuff that did not come actually.

Rat/s in the room
- We've been traveling for the past 15 years and this is the first time I've encountered a rat falling from our room's ceiling - TWICE. First time was in the afternoon when we saw it fall from the high ceiling to the floor. We chased it to the bathroom and called Helen and team. It took them 5 minutes to arrive and we lost the rat. The staff I felt did not believe us when we said there's a rat.
- We asked them to put a net above the ceiling which they did. In the evening, as soon as I opened the door to step out, a rat came fell again from the ceiling and scampered away. My shriek actually was heard by the spa attendants who came to ask why.
- I really got upset and demanded to talk to Helen. She offered to move us to a different resort. As this is impractical, we just requested if they could make sure that the ceiling has no more rats or mouse or any other insect. They said it was the first time they had a complaint about rats. I retorted that there's always a first time, and I said I hope it's the last.

Service
- Friendliness of the staff is inconsistent. One moment everyone is smiling and saying hello, the next moment, they'd just pass without acknowledging your presence or even giving a greeting.
- Food also took a long time to order. They advise you to order dinner at 6pm to be ready by dinner at 7-7:30pm.

All in all, the resort does not offer anything unique or a great advantage over other resorts. It's difficult to get to (compared to Laiya), amenities or facilities are so-so, staff/management do not seem to care to organize activities or make the stay more meaningful and memorable, and that rat experience was just too much,,,

Will not recommend. Now I know why it's not on top of Trip Advisor hotels in Puerto Galera.

We bought the deal from dealgrocer and booked as early as January. When we called last week, they said there is no available room although we have a confirmed booking number. After two days, they finally returned call saying they can accommodate us. after four hours from Makati, we were welcomed by an English woman named Helen and his boyfriend who said just volunteering due to lack of personnel escorted us at our villa (Vanda). Aircon is not working. They sent technician to no avail. Helen herself went up and said just give it some time. Three hours we're perspiring inside our villa until finally i troubleshoot it myself taking lessons from the defective condenser I've encountered in aircon unit in one of my classrooms. It worked after several try. at around 3pm, while I was watching a series from my mac, a big rat fell at the floor from the ceiling. I opened the doors, chase the rat to the door while my companion reported the incident to Helen. They went up with some staff, confirming if what a saw is really a rat and not a gecko. I'm little insulted at that moment but just ignored. We went out, swam, and went back to take shower. When we're about to go out for dinner, another rat jump from the door towards the villa's terrace. My companion was shocked, shouted and the staff of spa from the adjacent villa went out to check on us. We reported again and Helen offered a transfer to another resort but we thought transferring there that night is not a good option, we're checking out the next morning anyway. It is a posh resort, yes. However we felt that reception and staffs were not warm, probably because of series of complaints which we think should be corrected. It may be an isolated case but as for us, it will be the first and last we will go to this resort.

You maybe looking for a wrong place/resort I think.... the stinks you are talking about, the poor and terrible??? The story is, it is trip advisor's website, we as legitimate correspondent cannot hide and modify what has been written here... And by the way, you never been our guest, why do you need to look for something un-wanted... If I were you, if you cannot say something good, neither say something bad! At the end of the day, golden rule is always happening... "do unto others, as you would like others do unto you" okay brother? Insha Allah, may you be enlighten as you about to celebrate the "Eid Al Fitr" soon!!!
