Detailed Reviews
I was married at this hotel on Sat 18th May 2013. Our experience from start to finish was AAA+. Staff were friendly & accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them. The owner Kelvin, his wife, Bellen & Tina coordinated everything like a fine swiss clock!
The food, entertainment, hospitality- whole experience is one we will never forget- what an amazing experience from start to finish-
fantastic..
The views from Utopia are stunning, across 2 bays either side of the elevated gardens.. All our guests shared our experience which ultimately was made extra special by the team effort of everyone at Utopia Resort & Spa.
I will be going back to stay at Utopia Resort & Spa and thoroughly recommend you try this jewel in the crown if you are considering Puerto Galera- you will be pleased you did!!!

I had the most relaxing days in resort together with my fiance. It was peaceful and quiet. This is perfect for lovers. We have a nice room and with a stunning view from the balcony. The staffs are nice as well and helpful.

We have no real complaints about the resort, we appreciated the upgrade and the good rate to extend. The rooms are nice and spacious, and the original build was good. With only six rooms the resort is quite exclusive, and the staff are very attentive.
However, the maintenance and attention to detail in the deep cleaning need to be addressed. Keeping the pool area free of equipment and some new sunbeds would not go amiss.

I will give this review specifically for the Kitchen, Bar and Restaurant ONLY
Food is great. But, the process of the order is too slow. We are 6 people and ordered 6 dishes for lunch. It took them more than 1 hour before they serve our order. The staff didn't inform us that there is 1 batch of order prior to us or alteast say something how long it will take our order to be serve.
My friend has made 3 follow up with the staff, but keep saying "sorry we have another customer ahead of you that still waiting for their food.
I don't understand. They said there are 3 chefs on duty, but the order are still taking more than 1 hour before it delivers to us.
I hope the management will do something with the staff to make them more proactive with customer.
Thanks
Zih

Booked this place because it was described as quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of Sabang and White Beach. Turns out there was a techno party nearby that kept us awake until 2 o'clock at night. Bed at our Lily Villa was creaking everytime we turned. And a road runs straight beneath the windows creating noise from early morning. Pool didn't seem well maintained and was unserviced.
After two days we had enough and went to check out (we had booked 5 nights). As the resort claims to have 5 star service we did not think there would be a problem. But the ass. manager told us that the owner wanted us to pay for the full stay claiming that they had rejected other guests wanting to stay these days. As the resort was almost deserted and we seemed like the only guests there we found it hard to believe. Also they had not informed us about a 21 day cancellation policy. After a long discussion during which the owner Bruce Kelvin has fled to his upstairs office leaving the ass. manager on her own, they finally let us go after having offered to pay for 1,5 day more than our actual stay. We found this a very unprofessional and odd behaviour from the owner.
It is true that it is far away from White Beach and Sabang, and there is no beach nearby so you have to pay for the hotel's shuttle to drive you 400 pesos each time (12 dollars). So if you have gone to Mindoro for the beautiful beaches this is NOT the place to go. The view over the hills and to the sea is beautiful though, the service staff very nice and rooms are clean and well maitained with a nice private terrace.
Food and restaurant is advertised as "the best on the island". Even though the Phillipines might not be the food mecca of Asia, the food was plain and bland seeming to stem from a micro owen and from our experience NOT the best. Advertisement brags about french inspired cuisine, but when we asked for a bottle of red wine they told us the only had wine by the glass. Not very cuisine-ish and the wine tasted like it had been opened for weeks and stored in the fridge.

The resort is simply abandoned. Maybe there is hotel staff but for sure not at work. When we checked in we immediately understood that we were not welcome. The room was unclean, still with some food and bootless in the minibar that belonged to the previous guest. The breakfast is poor. In the afternoon the people staff play cards with money on the table....seems to be in the suburbs of Manila! The swimming pool it's an terrible situation, floating animals and the bar beside seems has been robbed. During the last night we found a cockroach in the shower of our room. I explained it was not admissible for such expensive hotel. They proposed a 50 % discount. The morning after became 20%. Liars. In general in puerto galera you find better with half the price of utopia, that sucks.

I had the most amazing 4 days at the resort. It was quiet, peaceful, and the staff could not do any more to be accommodating to my needs. I don't remember everyone's name, but Thina was so helpful and friendly, as were all the 'girls' there, and jimmy the driver took me different places, and was very patient and kind.. and made sure I was safe wherever I went. He stayed in the van for a couple of hours while I visited the mangyan village. As for the hotel food, well, unfortunately I was not allowed to bring the two chefs home, their dishes were amazing. I came during the quite time, so lucky for me I had the resort to myself for a day or so. The scenery is to die for, and it is away from the hustle and bustle. I felt like I was in heaven. I was sad to go.

We stayed at the Utopia for four nights at the end of June 2014 and had a wonderful relaxing time here and I wholehearted recommend it to others. This is a small , boutique style resort with a hint of luxury and exclusivity about the place. Utopia is well away from the bustle of the town and from Sabang but the resorts shuttle bus is at guests disposal so it was very easy to get around. The benefit of being up in the peace of the hills with absolutely stunning views over the bays, far outweighs any benefits of being in the thick of the action and noise of the town. The grounds are exceptionally well maintained and there is a pathway down to a small bay, although its probably a bit too steep for most people in the heat of the day. We enjoyed using the pool although it could probably benefit from a little bit of maintenance – but nice enough, clean, secluded and peaceful.
We booked direct with the resort and would suggest others do the same – it was a delight to deal with the reception staff who responded to my emails promptly, professionally and informatively – thank you Gay Lin and Tina. This was our first visit to the Philippines and we were in Manila for our son’s wedding but wanted a change from the chaos of the city. We lacked the confidence to tackle too much independent travel - mainly because of the huge amount of ‘wedding luggage’ we had with us. We therefore opted for the private car and boat transfers from Manila and these were seamless. Although a bit on the expensive side, we were more than satisfied with the service.
We booked Lily Cottage A and were really pleased with the cottage. The accommodation was very spacious, well maintained and furnished, with a very comfortable bed, a good shower, and a lovely private veranda with stunning views over the bays. Breakfast was plentiful with a good variety of options. We ate in Cafe Utopia and Bistro Utopia and would certainly recommend others do the same – the food is excellent and you would be hard pushed to match the quality in the town. The resort has a happy hour each evening with free local spirit cocktails and snacks which were really very enjoyable.
We went into Sabang in the evenings (the resorts bus operates until 10.30 at night) and enjoyed the buzz of the place. We ate at a couple of places including the Utopia’s sister resort, the Blue Ribbon Dive Resort which is a complete contrast - packed and buzzing with the areas diving fraternity. We had an excellent meal there and recommend it others.
In my view, this resort should be rated a lot higher than it is and can only assume that it loses out in the rankings to places catering more specifically for the more immediate needs of an enthusiastic diving community. But do give this place a try – it’s a small, intimate peaceful place from which you can arrange pretty much anything you want to do. We most certainly recommend the Utopia to others and will, I hope, return some day.
Our thanks to the owner, Kelvin Bruce and to your wife and the staff of the Utopia.

Great location and views, grounds well maintained, rooms good with a small balcony. Wouldn't probably say resort standard, but good standard. Beach access finished, although the beach was very littered - although apparently it does get cleaned up once a week. It may need to be more than once a week. Staff happy and helpful. Quite a way out of town which can be slightly inconvenient, but the views make up for it. Very disappointed that the pool was not operational - it was dirty and certainly not swimmable. So with the beach not being inviting and the pool not clean, in the heat it was quite frustrating. This is the first place I have stayed on the Island, so will probably check out others before going back.

The Utopia Resort and Spa is an excellent hotel located a short drive from Sabang Beach. The resort is a small well cared for privately owned property that has everything a couple is looking for in a romantic getaway. There is s free daily shuttle service to and from Sabang Beach and arrangement can be made to and from the Airport for a nominal fee that includes a private boat ride. The grounds are well kept, the rooms clean and the staff is very friendly. The resort co-ownes the Blue Ribbon Dive Resort on Sabang Beach and can help with any dives that you may want to do during your stay. The spa service is excellent and as is the restaurant. I would highly recomend this resort to anyone traveling to Puerto Galera.
