Our son & his wife stayed here 3 years ago & enjoyed it so much that it was his ambition to return with his dad & me because he thought we’d love it. How well he knows us, we adored it. It’s an adventure at first being picked up from the Main Street & being transported up the steep road to the hotel but once up there - WOW. Beautiful views of the mountains & sea. Check in was easy. We had 2 adjacent rooms on the lowest level & these were clean, & basic but fine. No fridge but we didn’t really need one as we could get cold water as required. Maybe a kettle & a couple of mugs could be available as I like an early morning warm drink. We had breakfast & some lunches in the restaurant. The food was excellent & reasonably priced. The swimming pool was clean & pleasant. Of course a good hotel must rely on its staff who were all courteous, friendly & helpful. The driver was always available to take us to White Beach & quick to collect us on an evening. Thank you all.

Staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. Hotel is located at the top of a very steep hill but offers free shuttle service with a driver on call who can bring you to the beaches or the ports anytime from 7am to 10pm. Since the terrain is hilly, the buildings are built at multiple levels, and you need to go up and down many stairs (no elevators), so it's not recommended for PWD or the elderly. The deluxe rooms are large, and open out to a spacious balcony with a wonderful view of the mountains. It's very quiet and relaxing - a totally different vibe from the noise and crowds at White Beach. Resort is not on the beach front, but White Beach is a 5-minute drive, and Aninuan Beach is a short walk. What we liked is that given its "central" location and the free shuttle, we were able to explore all 3 main beaches - White Beach, Aninuan Beach and Talipanan Beach. They provide free pocket wifi, and free distilled water from a large dispenser, which are also much appreciated. The room is clean upon check-in, but they don't clean everyday (we stayed 3 nights and the room was never cleaned). It seems they only do it upon request. The mattress is of good quality, but the beddings are thin. They also need to replace the bath towels and sterilize them well. The pool is also clean but the jacuzzi was not working when we were there. The pool area has a small bar, but the pool itself is not lighted at night so we had to swim in the dark. The restaurant's food is good, but they need to improve the menu variety and food service was a bit slow (takes 30 mins. to an hour). We wanted to try their ATV at the Nature Park but the trails were unfortunately damaged by the recent typhoon. Resort amenities were basic but sufficient. This resort is a lot better than those located on the beach front which have similar price points but fewer amenities and less pleasant surroundings. Overall it was a good stay and worth the discounted price in Agoda.

Tribal hill mountain resorts is my Puerto Galera’s home. The owner of a hotel is from Britain, has been living in Puerto Galera for many years, knows everything about this area. The manager is Lea, who solves all issues and helps all the time, drivers Jessie and Jap are super operational guys who were ready to bring me / pick up before I was ready) The restaurant is an amazing place with a paradise view and delicious breakfasts. It’s not overpricy. The rooms are spacious, the view is amazing, the bath is so so) Sometimes there wasn’t hot water. The bed is perfect, king size. I read negative reviews about the lack of a hairdryer, a kettle and more ... I came up, asked, a minute and everything is there. You should just ask Lea) I’m not happy with the cigarette smell...when the neighbors smoked, the terrible smell was everywhere. The pool is quite clean and big. Filipino coffee on the terrace in the mountains, with roosters somewhere below, such a good morning) Thanks a lot! Hope I’ll back soon)

I was lucky enough to find this resort in early May 2019 for 6 nights. I loved every minute. Owen and his lovely wife Maying have built a beautiful resort in the hills overlooking the area below. The views from the restaurant are fabulous. There are many pleasant employees ready to enhance your vacation in every way possible. If you have time, try to get up to his Tribal Hills Adventure Park for a once in a lifetime experience. The attractions of White Beach are only a short ride down the mountain. Also, I found that the Mangyan village, nearby, was a unique experience. White Beach does not have any ATMs that I know of and the credit card network was not working upon my check out, so bring some extra cash before arrival. The girls that work in the restaurant are as sweet as sweet can be. Owen, Maying and the entire staff are extremely pleasant and helpful at every opportunity. I guarantee you will fall in love with this resort.

Relaxing place, clean, silent hotel for a vacation. Green nature environment. Top hotel in Puerto galera, good services and super friendly staff always there for you if you need something.. tasteful food in their restaurant and exceptional good free transportation from the hotel to at lease 3 beaches whenever you prefer to go and 100% top services by picking you up by arrival at the harbor and going back to harbor. They assist in buying tickets.. Simply top! top! top! Hotel.. Highly recommended. Greatings Jay-p. Tino.loida

First time we stayed here was way back in June 2016 for a 3 night 4 day stay at their Deluxe Suite for 3 adults and 1 child. Despite the weather our vacation was superb. After 3 years we came back as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) plus 1 companion and stayed at their Penthouse for 4 nights and 5 days. Wife was 4 months pregnant with our 3rd child and with 2 restless kids in tow, comfort was a priority for us during this trip and their Penthouse gave us a feel of home. The Suite came with a fully functional kitchen with everything you need to make family meals. The living room had 2 sofas and a flat screen TV, and the bed room had 2 king size beds comfortable to fit all five of us. Best part of the Suite was that it had a balcony that gives you the best view of the area and more that enough space for the kids to run and play. Since my wife was pregnant we opted to avail of their rates without breakfast as she loves to cook. We booked the resort shuttle (500 pesos back and forth) to take us to the town to get things we needed at the market. Do take note that there is a small grocery and small meat shops in the immediate area however because of my wife's cravings we made the short trip to town. Our shuttle driver, Jessie, was very accommodating as he showed us the market stalls to get the best meat cuts we wanted. We took the shuttle daily to Aninuan Beach which is around a 3 minute ride from the resort. You have about a 2 minute trail walk from the drop off point before coming out to the beachfront fronting the Ayala's rest house which sprawls along the stretch of Aninuan Beach. If you want peace and quiet at the same time enjoy swimming without worrying about your belongings on the sand then this is the beach I'd recommend you go to however if you want to see people around you with resorts and restaurants as your backdrop and beach activities then I'd recommend going over to the White Beach area. The only only activity we did was the island hopping which was organized by Val. He booked us a small boat for 1800 pesos (boat prices may vary depending on the size of the boat and the season) good enough to fit 3 adults and 2 kids. The 1st stop was the coral gardens which we all enjoyed - I suggest you avail of the smaller boat (about 200 pesos per head) once you reach the coral gardens to take you nearer as the regular sized boats are not permitted near the area. Take note that it is a long way if you opt to swim to the coral gardens from the drop point. From here we did not anymore go the the giant clam area anymore and decided to head for the island to enjoy the beach and have lunch. I recommend you pack your lunch and enjoy it when you stopover on the island, if you don't like to cook then the resort will be able to prepare your meals for you for the island hopping trip. The other activities you can try are the Tamaraw and Aninuan Falls, the ATV trek offered at Tribal Hills, and Archery. This was our last hurrah for a vacation before school starts and overall we all had a blast. We definitely will come back to Tribal Hills when my wife give birth and we will always consider it home away from home. Service is excellent and we commend Shayne for taking care of our booking reservations for both vistis, Lea for taking care of our daily needs in the hotel, Kuya Jojo for shuttling us back and forth to the port, Kuya Jessie for shuttling around town and and Aninuan Beach whenever we wanted. To the owners and the rest of the staff...Thank you much for making our stay wonderful! We will see you soon. Jessie Val Jojo Lea

This is a real hidden gem. Located less than 5 minutes from Aninuan and White Beach, you would never know it existed, but it is so worth finding. Fantastic views over the bay with incredible sunsets and to the rear the forests and mountains. Owen the owner has created a special retreat, relaxing, quiet, friendly with a lovely pool and bar which is family friendly and does not encourage late night partying. The food is really good, very reasonably priced and big portions. Their shuttle service is really efficient and gets you anywhere you need to go. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable with free wifi and cable. Check out their cafe in White Beach too, run by Owens wife the food is good and very very reasonably priced. We had a lovely 3 night stay here and will definitely return. I 100% recommend it.

Went on a 3 days 2 nights stay for a birthday weekend. Unfortunately, it did not go well as planned. The resort offers free shuttle service which makes it convenient for guests to roam around the island. Since we were tired upon arrival, we made plans the day after. We rented a motorcycle however we got into an accident. Called the resort to pick up from the hospital and the response was quick. Thank you to Kuya Batman for his kindness. Also the staff were kind enough to book a ferry boat for us back to Batangas port and even helped us with our luggage knowing we can't walk properly. There may be some areas of improvement in the resort like the hot water in the shower takes time or you need to go up and down the stairs but the hospitality of Owen, Mayen, Reception Team and the Restaurant staff is remarkable. If ever we will go back to Puerto Galera, we will not have second thoughts booking this place.

This was my third time visiting Puerto Galera but I brought a few first-timer friends with me. I usually book within the White Beach area but I'm glad I chose Tribal Hills this time: 1. Shuttle service is a big plus. We were picked up and dropped off from/to the ports. It is very convenient to go to the beach anytime (until 10pm). 2. Staffs are lovely and very helpful. They have attended to our every need. They have also helped us booking a ferry ticket home but unfortunately the trips are fully booked. But hey we still appreciated the effort. One of the drivers even gave us tips for alternative routes for going back home. 3. Breakfast was delicious! Most hotels offer free breakfast but falls short of the taste; just for the sake of saying they offer free breakfast. Tribal Hills is not one of them. We tried different sets every day and all of them were good! We haven't got a chance to have the other items on the menu, but if the free ones are good already, I'm sure the other ones are superb too. The restaurant has a stunning view of the beach/ocean. 4. Rooms are very spacious. We are pleasantly surprised when our room got upgraded with a balcony. Everything in the suite was spacious(even the bathroom). Air conditioning is adequate in cooling the 2-floored suite. The balcony gives you a wonderful mountain view. 5. We liked the location as it is minutes away from the White Beach but far enough from the noise of the bars at night. Perfect for relaxing after a day of beach activities. We haven't tried the pool and the bar within the resort since we are short of time. Wished we could stay for a day or two more. We'll definitely be back!

Stayed in the Penthouse for 3 nights as a family. The rooms were very spacious with a stunning view. The rooms were adequately clean and another positive point was the shuttle service provided by the hotel. The majority of staff were hospitable, polite and friendly, the main complaint and the reason for the low rating is because we felt like we were being watched throughout the stay and upon leaving the hotel, the receptionist Shane even told us that they were watching us and they knew who was going in and out of the room, who was using the downstairs bathroom, who was wearing pyjamas at specific times, which I found to be very disturbing. Initially I booked a room for 4 adults and 2 children, but instead 5 adults went (the room can hold 6+ people) and in all of my years going to multiple hotels throughout the Philippines, there has never been additional charge for another person, even as the 2 children did not go. Regardless, I could sense her hostility and anger and paid the 2,400 pesos for the 3 nights, I'm disappointed in the way that Shane handled the situation, there are more polite ways of conversing with customers. The only other complaint would be the power-cuts, especially in the evening when it's pitch-black outside and you're in the middle of having a shower, that was not fun!

Response from owen c, Owner at Tribal Hills Mountain Resort
Responded Feb 19, 2019
We thanks this guest for his review but would like to offer a comment on those complaints that the guest makes: As noted the group had booked for four adults but turned up with five. It is clear in the reservation process that additional guests over and above the standard four incur a charge which we requested the additional guest to pay while, as can be seen above the guest felt he should be free. With regards to watching the guests, well we have a steep access road and therefore, for the convenience of guests, we offer a free shuttle service up and down the hill and to the nearby beaches. To that end off course we have drivers on standby looking out for guests who wish to avail of that service, how could we not?? Brown outs are a fact of life in Puerto Galera and unfortunately are the responsibility of the local Power authority. We consider it a positive that here at Tribal Hills we have 100% power back up through generators, many of the other resorts in the area can only run fans and lights during brown outs, not aircons and water heaters as we do here. As to staff attitude, I can only request that potential guests take a little time to review the many, many other guest reviews and the comments that they offer in respect of the unfailing friendly and helpful attitude of all members of staff. As a general recommendation we strongly suggest that all guests also take time to fully understand the details of the reservation that they have made and what can be found at the Hotel. Best regards, Tribal Hills
