After a three year delay due to covid and health issues we finally made it to Edgewater (many thanks to Richard the owner keeping our reservation open). Richard and his team provide fantastic service, every single person always went the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. The room was superb, the food excellent, the diving exceptional and a great massage overlooking the lagoon. If you want to chill and dive then this is the best place.

Hotel's Favorite
We chose this hotel for our scuba trip to Philippines because it looked to be a lot nicer than most of the accommodation on offer in the area. We were not disappointed. Booked directly with hotel and received significantly cheaper booking than that on offer from booking.com etc. This meant we could afford the best room in the hotel which was really spacious with glorious expansive sea views. Excellent comms from hotel admin staff from the start. Very well organised transfer from airport to hotel via van and private water taxi. Be aware that you will be asked to pay a very small price for the use of the ferry pier at Batangas (no facilities there so unsure what we were actually paying for?). We didn’t have any local currency with us so had to pay in euros which didn’t go down too well). Throughout our stay we were knocked out by the warmth and friendliness of all the staff for which absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Rooms don’t provide tea making facilities but when asked we were provided with a kettle and mugs for our early morning cuppas (so take teabags and coffee!). The bar and restaurant area was lovely overlooking the wonderfully scenic bay. There is a very small pool which we didn’t bother with but was great for those learning to dive. Breakfast was good, our faves were the eggs Benedict and the Shanghai Rice. Lunchtime food was also greatly enjoyed on a daily basis and there was usually a daily ‘special’ on offer for evening meals. We were pleased to see a decent wine list with a good choice of great wines at a reasonable price. The hotel owners, Richard and Victoria live onsite and were wonderful hosts, sharing beers, good conversation and diving trips with us. The atmosphere around the place is extremely chilled, perfect for peace and relaxation, no horrible boom boom music to spoil my paperback reading and snoozing in the afternoons. This place would definitely not suit those looking for a more upbeat party vibe. If your primary reason for visiting this area of the Philippines is to dive then I would highly recommend staying at Edgewater. The diving centre is small but well stocked with gear and they offer 3 dives daily, 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. The dive masters were great, setting up our gear every day and taking us to a variety of local dive sites which did not fail to disappoint. The coral formations were fabulous and the amount and diversity of fish life was a joy to see. The sites were all very close to the hotel, so no long boat rides needed. Surface intervals were spent on land drinking coffee at another local dive resort which we really enjoyed. We were provided with individual water bottles on our trips and hot flannels for post dive wash downs (a simple but blissful touch which we will surely miss on our next dive trip). There was never more than 4 of us in a dive group and compared to other larger dive operations, we felt we were getting a much higher quality, safer and personalised experience. I observed beginners receiving tuition for their Padi Open and Advanced qualifications and I was extremely impressed and wished that I had learned to dive at Edgewater. I wouldn’t really say Edgewater was a spa resort, although it is true that you can get a massage but there were no other spa facilities as such there. I think this is an aspect of the hotel that the owner is planning to develop in the future, and I look forward to that. The hotel is about 10 minutes by moped to Sabang or Puerto Galera. Moped hire is cheap and there is also a plentiful supply of motorcycle taxis which you just flag down outside hotel so visiting local bars and restaurants is not difficult. We walked into Sabang one day but this was quite a long walk along the main road and I wouldn’t really recommend it. We visited a few local restaurants and would definitely recommend Tamarind and Not Just Coffee. We visited Talipanan Falls which is a short hike from the parking area. This hike requires trainers for clambering over rocks so be warned, don’t wear flip flops! Another place to visit if you want to savour some glorious views whilst sipping a cocktail is the Ponderosa Golf Club. A shout out too to Puerto Galera Yacht Club who kindly provided us with a days sailing at a very reasonable cost. The area isn’t very developed and the living standards of the locals was quite shocking to us at first but we never really felt much pressure to buy stuff and in fact the locals were so friendly that we really felt that we wanted to spend our tourist pound supporting the local community. Animal lovers beware, I have never seen so many desperately unhealthy looking dogs in my life, it was awful. To summarise, a great hotel with wonderful staff (unfair to single out any names as I can’t remember them all and would hate to leave anyone out!). Perfect for scuba divers and those just wanting complete rest and relaxation. We will be back! …

Confortable resort, very good restaurant, nice swimming pool, efficient dive operation in a good location to reach the sites, very nice staff. All in all we spent a very nice week to dive extensively in family Warm recommendation for divers , much better option than staying in the gloomy sabang beach

I was delighted to find the beds, and bedding were great….even feather pillows! The bathrooms were nicely finished and everything was like new. This is a small resort at the end of the cove, it is private, quiet and has beautiful views all around. The Proprietor, Richard and his wife Victoria were very welcoming. I joined my sister and brother in law for a week of diving. Most dive sites are only 5-9 minutes away. The dive masters June, Billy and Rose were all great and took good care of us. They are happy to provide a refresher course for those that haven’t been able to dive in awhile. The restaurant was good, many great options for breakfast and portions for lunch and dinner are generous enough to share in many cases. While we did not stay at the resort, I did make 18 dives over nine days out of their dive shop. Had a great time. Prices were comparable to other local shops. The dive guide provided safe diving and the boat crew was friendly and helpful. Edgewater has a speedboat that doesn't care how many tanks are upfront. It's fast. At the end of each dive, divers were provided with full size fresh dry towels, hot wash cloths and freshwater from a sport bottle labeled with your name. Back at the dive shop there's a hot freshwater shower to rinse off. I stowed my dive gear there each day as they have a secure storage area. Could not have been happier with the service.

The hotel is super cute and super convenient if your main purpose for visiting Puerto Galera is diving. The restaurant and bar has everything you need and the staff is really friendly. They took care of any request we had with a smile and made sure our visit was awesome. The dive team was also wonderful. Our dives were one of a kind and we felt safe and taken care of the whole time. One note, think about the on site massage if your shy. We got rain in our buttcracks and flashed a whole group of incoming tourist, but hey they were here to see the wildlife!!! :)

I had simply the best kinilaw I ever had in the Ph. Great outdoor massage spot, good scuva diving opportunity, and poolside bar with romantic atmosphere and friendly bartender, thoroughly managed rooms, and a pleasent and comfortable stay. You might find it relatively expensive, but it does worth it.

Looking to get out of the capital, we found this Pearl in Puerto Galera. Edgewater is in a secluded and calm bay, away from the hustle and bustle of the town and diver resorts. We were taken to their pier and warmly welcomed by the owners and staff, respecting all covid-19 restrictions and precautions. Edgewater is a small resort and spa with a lot of oomph. Their rooms are superb, with full amenities, tv, ac, WiFi, ceiling fan, hot water (obviously!). Some face the ocean, others their lush garden. They have an area facing the ocean where you can relax with a massage or a pedicure. They have a very nice pool, terrasse area, a well stocked bar and an extensive food menu. For our stay, the owner (Richard) prepared a feast and served copious amounts of food, a combination of surf and turf, cold cuts, sea food, typical food, etc. They also have a superb diving service. My spouse completed her PADI certification with Paul, while I dove with Marlon. The dive sites are world class. I have over 200 dives around the planet and this is one of the best places I've been. The conditions and amazing variety of fish gave me some of my best underwater shots. Richard and his wife Victoria went out of their way to make sure we were treated like friends.
