Travelers' Choice
Puerto Galera is well known for its numerous scuba diving spots; the area was designated a Man and Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO in 1973 and has some of the most diverse coral reef diving in Asia located at the very heart of the 'Coral Triangle'. The area also features numerous pocket beaches and stunning tropical scenery. Atlantis Puerto Galera is beautifully built into the hills of Sabang Beach of Puerto Galera and has a great beachfront location; in many travel guidebooks and magazines, Atlantis is quoted as one of the most outstanding resorts of the Philippines with its award-winning (Flintstones) design. Spent 10 days at the Atlantis dive Resort in June of 2022. The facility is beautiful, the staff are very friendly, accommodating, and professional. The gourmet food was delicious. The area was beautiful, and the ocean was 85 degrees, clear, beautiful tropical water and the tropical fish were abundant. The Dive Shop staff helped with all your needs. I didn't carry my equipment once back and forth to the boat. The staff offered some great educational facts of the area before each dive. The Dive Masters focused on safety and always gave a safety talk before each dive. We dove 3-4 dives a day. Nitrox available. At the end of our vacation, we all received a printout of our dives. The town is within walking distance for any other amenities you might want. We felt very safe there. Excursions were fun, but if you do the water fall hike be prepared for a good uphill hike to the waterfall, wear proper shoes and wear your bathing suit! Buy your basket souvenirs at the village on the excursion. Not from the vendors on the streets. They are much cheaper, and your money supports the village. The resort has no elevators so if you stay in the Penthouse prepare for a lot of stairs climbing, but it is worth the view and room.

Loved the whole experience while we were here. The food was spot on. The dive crew were amazing. All of the staff from the dive crew to our masseuses to our crew serving our meals & drinks & waiting on us all looked after us so well & became our friends & still touch base with them. Need to organise another dive trip here soon.

A bit pricey but had a pleasant stay. What stands out is the great dining staff. The friendliest and most efficient staff in Puerta Galera. Went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. Will definitely stay here again and we highly recommend. Suggestion: Move air conditioner to the middle of the room. Can be a bit warm because the unit is in the shower area.

The resort was completely full when we arrived but the service was still excellent. Ironically by the end of the week there were only 2 divers left at the resort. The resort is right on the waterfront in the middle of Sabang Beach. It is a short 5 minute walk to town from the resort where you can get snacks and such. The staff is quite friendly and pleasant. I was amazed that most if not all of the staff knew me by name by the second day. Granted I kind of stand out in a crowd (literally) so I am easy to remember, but it was a nice touch. The rooms are all stucco and ceramic. They are pleasant and well furnished. The bed was comfortable, but only had a duvet so bring a sheet if you need one. Each room has a small fridge, a TV (not all that many channels, though), a private bath. there were enough outlets for charging phones. The air conditioner worked quite well which is a necessity because it is quite warm and humid in the Philippines. There is a dedicated camera room with plenty of outlets and space to put your cameras and charge batteries. The grounds were well kept up with lots of trees and bushes on the grounds. They had a nice little pool as well as a spa for massages. The restaurant was open air. Each morning we could order breakfast off the menu. For lunch and dinner we had 3-4 choices each day. Typically one meat dish, one fish, and one vegetarian. The food was very good. One could also order off the menu, but that was not included in our package. The dive operation is set up quite well. They have a gear storage room and a separate cubby shelf for each diver's small items. The dive staff typically takes care of the heavy stuff once you set it up. They take the tanks and weights and such to the boat before each dive. You have to analyze your tanks, but they have a nice set up which makes it pretty easy. The dive briefings were quite thorough. The divemasters were excellent. The boat crew was very helpful and always loaded up our BC/tanks from the water. They also handled cameras well. Boats were equipped with safety gear and seemed well maintained. The boat drivers handled the boats extremely well. The dive sites were mostly within a 10 minute ride from the resort with the exception of Verde Island. We dived patch reefs, walls, muck areas, and a couple wrecks. Visibility is not like Cozumel or Caymans, but the healthy coral more than makes up for the lack of crystal blue water. Even right off the beach the coral is flourishing. There is such a density of life in the reefs here where almost every hard surface has something growing on it be it an anemone, soft coral or crinoid. There were lots of smaller colorful reef fish as well as frogfish, octopus, eels, etc. The divemasters were quite good at finding tiny nudibranchs and such. After the days diving it was pleasant to hang at the 50 bar. They had some pretty good craft beer there. The front desk was very helpful in setting up transfers and such. Yes, there were a number of vendors right outside the resort grounds selling t shirts, jewelry, and woven baskets. They were not aggressive, but I don’t need any of that stuff and almost felt bad not buying anything. Getting here from the USA involves a lot of time in airplanes, vans, and boats; and the jet lag can be an issue, but it really is a great place to dive. This was my second time at Atlantis Puerto Galera and I will be back.

We had a life changing time at this resort. The entire staff of this resort are the best humans on the planet. The diving was beyond spectacular in nature and only made better by the greatest dive guide I've ever had - Van. Van has one of the greatest critter spotting eyes I have ever experienced. He genuinely listened to us, and picked all of our dives sites with safety and our critter spotting goals in mind. He checked off almost all of my bucket list critters within the first day!! We were supported by Captain Bai - who was so on top of things we were blissfully floating from dive to dive unaware of all the hard work happening behind the scene. My backplate bolt had unfortunately loosened, and was lost on a dive and Bai replaced it himself while the rest of the dive team went to the hardware store to look for alternatives! All while I sipped on a soda and enjoyed the company. To top it off, Norm FOUND said bolt on his dive, and they refused to take the spare back an insisted I keep it as a back up part. Speaking as a manager of a dive company for the past 6 years, the ENTIRE dive team at Puerto Galera, along with their passion and efforts are 100% unmatched. Verde Island day trip, and Black Water dive are a must. However, the local sites (all less than 10 minutes boat ride away) were all mind blowing as well. The resort itself is quaint and very unique. The rooms, albeit a bit small, were fully functional for a couple with loads of dive gear. The spa experiences were incredible and the restaurant staff knew our coffee order by the second day! Ogie - the restaurant manager surprised us with unique, personalized latté every morning. The food was absolutely incredible and they always made sure we were hydrated, full and happy! We'll never forget our time here, and tears were shed as we departed with hugs from our dive team and warm smiles from the entire staff at Atlantis.

My first diving experience in the Philippines and I can only say that Atlantis is a fantastic place to stay. I had been given a heads up through diving network of others that had stayed/dived with Atlantis. Diving is phenomenal and the dive operations at Puerto Galera are A+. We were a large group, divided among the smaller boats - our divemaster - Felix - was fantastic. Very patient as we all got oriented after the long trip - showed us amazing underwater things that we would have probably never found on our own. Once you gear up - you do not touch your BC again until diving. Staff carry your BC/tank to and from the boat each day/dive. Nitrox readings were very consistent each day. Dive briefings before every dive with graphics of site and expectations. Verde Island is a must - now it my number 1 favorite lifetime dive. The abundance and richness of the underwater world in this area is a sight to see and was worth every mile and dime to get there. Resort staff was wonderful as well - I was a bit worried before the trip about food options - not a problem at all. Good variety and quantity at each meal. Can only drink filtered water - there is a bottle provided in your room and you can refill at the dive shop or restaurant. Or refill your own bottle that you may bring. Rooms are tight - I had a single room over the bar area - great for one person. Oh and the bar is great for evening hang outs. Not a lot of "lounging" areas - just a few chairs by the pool that get taken quickly. But - you will be busy diving!

I've just returned from my second visit here. The Atlantis PG is a fantastic experience if you are a diver. It's about 2.5 hours from NAIA in Manila; Atlantis will pick you up there and get you to PG. It's run with attention to detail and the managers are on site, very visible and interactive with the resort guests. The entire staff is warm, smiling, very friendly and attentive to detail. Rooms are large and comfortable; aircon and wi-fi are strong. You might need a day or 2 to get used to the "Flintstone" motif, but I came to like it. Dining at the house restaurant Toko's is delightful every meal. Dive shop is very well run; staff, boat captains, DM's are excellent. Tank fills were consistently 2950-3050 PSI; Nitrox was consistently 31.5-33%. Boats are small and fast. With the exception of Verde Island, all the dive sites are within 1-15 minutes of the resort. Verde Island is the crown jewel of PG and you must not miss it. It's a 1 hour banca ride from the resort. You'll have 3 dives and a great lunch. At PG you will see great reefs teeming with a wildly diverse mix of nudi's, small to medium sized fish, turtles, eels. They will do a few afternoon muck dives. There are a few small wrecks. Most of the dives are max 70 feet depth. Most sites had mild if any current. A few dives were really wild rides; it depends on the the tides. If you want bigger critters, go to Tubatahha. If you want more muck diving, go to Dumaguete. I did not get any massages at the spa, but my friends who did said that they were great. There is a nice fresh water pool too. Sabang Beach has really been cleaned up. The ratty old beach is gone; there is a new concrete seawall and boulevard with good lighting since I was last there in 2019. Wanna give special recognition to GM Rey, dive ops manager Norm, restaurant manager Ogie, my DM Van, my DM and boat captain Jef, front desk staff Melba and Hazel, Toko's staff Camille, Vonna, Janessa, Nicole and Gemma. They made my trip extraordinary. I apologize to the many Atlantis staff whose names I've overlooked. Their company slogan is "Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend." They mean it. I'm already planning my return.
