It's a great choice for them as the rooms here are very reasonably priced.
The hotel is huge - 400 rooms or more.
The rooms are well appointed and nicely decorated and big. Ample spaces and closet for all your luggage and clothes. The work desk will have everything you'll need - from paper clips, stapler, stationaries, pens, etc...
The internet was somewhat intermittent but it's free so no complains there.
The gym and pool are great! Open from 6 am to 10 pm.
Our room included breakfast but I believe it is the case for every room.
The location is amazing as you are right in the Olympic Park.
Our room was on the 6th floor so we can barely see the Beijing National Aquatics Centre but I'm sure rooms on the higher floor have spectacular views of the Bird's Next and the Water Cube. Our room at the luxury hotel next door had that amazing view and that's why I'm suspecting that rooms on the upper floor will have the same views.
All staff are very friendly but most do not have a very good command of English. Mind you, this is China so they appreciate and put a smile on their faces if you try to speak Mandarin.
This a great hotel. My only complaint was the noise level as I can hear people talking from either side of my room and you cannot adjust the thermostat to turn the heat down. I totally understand though as this is very common in Beijing during winter months.
I would stay here again for sure and I would highly recommend this hotel for travellers that are looking for great accommodation for a reasonable rate.
Enormous room resembling many US hotels. The double room follows the US style of two double beds (not twin beds). Lots of storage space and spacious bathroom too.
Breakfast buffet was OK though not fantastic. Service staff a bit slow to clear up and lay the table for new diners so expect some waiting during busy breakfast times, or just be more direct and ask some staff for cutlery etc. instead of waiting for someone to get round to you.
There's always a queue of taxis outside the hotel so it is easy to get out to places (since there is nothing much around the convention centre area). There is an underground mall nearby with lots of food options (both Chinese and international) and a large supermarket. Subway station is 5 minutes walk away. Taxis are cheap but the subway might be a better option at certain rush hours if you are worried about traffic jams. The concierge is very helpful with recommendations of places to visit, modes of transportation, shopping or local food.
Main complaint would be the unstable wifi. Usually OK in the day time but drops intermittently in the evenings, or gets very slow, I suppose due to increased usage.
Also don't quite understand the non-smoking rooms arrangement. On the same floor (I stayed on the 13th floor), rooms on the left side are non-smoking but rooms on the right side have no restrictions. That essentially means that you have the smell of cigarette smoke all around the corridors anyway, and some of it wafts over even if you are in a non-smoking room.
Sound proofing is quite poor. I could hear people talking on the phone in the room next door sometimes. Also strange drilling/construction sounds in the middle of the night (like 2am or 4am) at nearby sides, or deliveries being made to the convention centre past midnight. Not the hotel's fault certainly but there seems to be no local regulation (or enforcement) of noisy activities past reasonable hours. Ask for higher floor if possible to minimise being disturbed by such noise.
the area is very nice to walk around with the Olympic village close and a very large underground shopping and eating mall. Subway is close too.
This hotel is primarily for business travelers attending events at the convention center. Any travel to the city proper can be lengthy and time consuming. I paid extra for a tour I booked which otherwise included transportation because the hotel was outside the 4th ring road of the city.
Rooms are modern, clean, spacious and of a high standard.
I only ate breakfast there and the food was very good with a combination of eastern and western foods.
The bar was very quiet in the evenings and there are obviously other places that people go instead.
During my stay I had the room service, ate a meal in the restaurant and had the breakfast buffet. The food was okay, although after trying the restaurant I preferred to find my own meals elsewhere - tastier, and less expensive.
No complaints about the housekeeping, maintenance of the room or amenities. All were clean and comfortable. The front desk staff speaks English well, so no concern there. The in-room wifi is a little spotty, and somewhat inconvenient to set up if you don't have a Chinese local phone number (you must call for service, but it took me three attempts before I was able to reach someone who could explain the username and password in English).
Adjacent is the Olympic Park, which is very clean and safe to go for a nice walk in the evening. I enjoyed seeing the sites and watching all of the families out enjoying themselves in the evening.
All in all, a comfortable hotel. I will stay here again if I have business at the CNCC.
We stayed here as part of an Aussie tour group. Our check in was quick and the hotel porters had our bags to our rooms within 15 minutes.
Our room was large with two king size single beds. The bathroom- shower very clean with quality shampoos, conditioner etc- all you would expect from a good hotel. Slippers and gown provided with a complimentary shopping bag. No traffic noise in the room and we had good quality WiFi provided at no additional charge. Good quality room safe provided.
The really big plus was that you could actually set the air con to the temperature you wanted and it worked accordingly- so good to set it to 20 degrees when it was 30 plus outside.
BBC World news was the only English channel we could get- the rest chinese. But this was fine for us.
Drinks in the hotel are expensive - 5 star hotel prices.
Breakfast - Excellent- great range of fruits- dragon fruit, bananas, mandarins and chopped up watermelon, rockmelon , green melon . Good range of cereals ranging from coco pops to all bran. No bacon but grilled ham, eggs to order, omlets and hard boiled eggs with quality coffee and tea, toast with a range of honey and jams. Very large range of chinese foods on offer if that's what you like.
At the front desk they will change your Aussie currency into chinese yuan (or other currencies as well US dollars, British pounds , Yen etc)). They charge no commission and the rates are very good.
If you don't want to eat at the hotel or you want to buy some alcohol to take back to drink then there is a very large shopping mall only 5-10 minutes easy walk away. To get to the AO shopping mall walk out of the hotel to your right. Cross over the street and continue walking along the footpath for around 5 minutes and you will see the AO mall sign- there is an escalator down after you walk down a few steps- its easy to miss this entrance but if you do just continue walking over the bridge and past a little shop called the coffee club and you will soon see another entrance to the mall.
Inside the underground mall there are heaps of shops and a food street. On the bottom floor there is a big supermarket- there is an escalator down to the right when you come in and it is also signposted.
Good German beer is around 20 yuan for a big can and chinese beer cheaper, water is around 2-3 yuan a bottle. Wine around 150 yuan and up - reasonable range of Bordeaux and Aussie wines as well as cheaper Great Wall chinese wine (its drinkable). Plenty of other supplies if you need something. There is a chemist shop near the supermarket - limited English so you may need sign language.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat in the mall I can recommend HK Element- in the " food street."Chinese of course but they have a picture menu where you can point to what you want- Roast duck recommended around 48yuan for a quarter duck-enough for two people and veggie dishes around 30 yuan. Crispy roast pork also good around 10-12 pieces @38yuan. No beer served here. Chopsticks only.
For lunch "My Kitchen "is in the courtyard area of the mall - beer served -15yuan for a bottle.- we had, 2 beers, 1/2 soy marinated chicken, choy sum vegetable dish and two beers . Cost 113yuan.
If you don't want to be in the hotel all day and you have free time then the Hong QIAO Market is only a 50-60 yuan taxi ride away - about 50 minutes- here you can shop your heart out for polo shirts and tee shirts and other tourist stuff you must have.(see my separate review of the markets for prices etc). Get a taxi back for a similar price but remember to walk away from the markets to get a cab on the street - the cabs in front of the market want you to pay tourist prices of around 150 -300 yuan- no need to pay this price.
There are some spectacular photo shots at night near the hotel where the whole Olympic park is lit up and its very safe to walk around day or night.
I would certainly stay here again.8.5/10 for this hotel.
We stayed for 4 nights with our tour group but arrived 1 days before to see additional sites.
We arrived at 5 am due to flight schedule. We had booked the room ahead knowing this to have one when we arrived. As scheduled we did and all was great. A total of 10 min. to check in and we were eating breakfast. After this we were in our rooms showered and sleeping. The room is huge, clean and nice.
We were for warned by prior post the air would not be on and true to this the heat was on with 65-72' heat in the day. It was rather hard for some travelers but we just opened the windows and enjoyed the cool night air. The government controls when the air is allowed so there is nothing anyone at the hotel can do.
We could and the price was rather reasonable for 4 people, 800 yuan for 4 hours. We asked about a guide.
We awoke and went to concierge to see what we could see. Since the hotel was outside the city center area, way out, we wanted to see if our car was ready.
When we arrived we were told they could not get a guide on short notice so they sent the young man who made our reservation with us!! Wow was customer service.
Our guide was Jeff and he did not speak much english. But if we spelled things out he looked into his phone and understood. He was great, helped get tickets, we paid, and called the car to pick us up. It would have been rather hard as we wanted to go into the city center and see things not on our tour.
We had a great short, just enough, site seeing tour and came back to our hotel with great relief we did not attempt this on our own.
I would recommend this hotel for customer service. Sure everyone does not speak a lot of english but they can get buy if you just have patience.
