Perfectly situated on the banks of the Njageteck River in the Mara North Conservancy, the camp allows for total privacy and exclusivity. The Ngoyanai springs provide permanent water, drawing in large numbers of animals to the area around camp. This camp is also particularly known for its resident lion pride which can often been seen hunting in front of the camp, and often herd roaring at night.
Wonderful 3 night stay at Richard's with manager Hannah and team. This was our last camp on our holiday safari and our only camp in Kenya (all others had been Tanzania). Beautiful setting in the Mara North Conservancy right by the river hosting hippos, baboons, and a nearby hyena den. Very good security with Askari around at all times.
Grounds are beautiful and lunch on the lawn and cocktails by the firepit before dinner were perfect. We had a gorgeous lunch out in the bush and also a surprise bonfire in the bush for new years eve. Every detail was thought of and the staff were polite and kind. We did request dinner in the dining tent with the flaps down and that was very pleasant. The food was definitely very good but the most 'American' of all that we had on safari. They served a chicken dish and even pizza one meal - the kids loved it. I would say we got to know the staff a bit less at this camp, perhaps just the set up/formality of it or maybe more of a language barrier. The guides, Junior and John, were very good, talkative and informative about the area and all of the wildlife.
The tents were definitely older with many interruptions in the material leaving openings for critters which we requested the staff repair so we could have restful nights. The bathroom was en suite but the shower was outside through a glass door so we opted to shower in the day. There was plumbing for the shower which made things very convenient. The beds were very comfortable and our family was actually enclosed within the same structure as opposed to two nearby tents with a walkway. I very much liked this to be able to check on our kids at night (ages 12, 13). This camp had a lot of evening noise being close to the hyena den and hippo river. Certainly a delight for people who enjoy feeling close to wildlife through the night.
Overall, an excellent Kenyan safari experience. Thank you!

Richard's Camp is the epitome of a traditional safari camp. What a delight! The tents are quite luxurious with very comfy beds and pillows. In the evening, it was wonderful to find a hot water bottle tucked in between the covers and the mattress. The outdoor shower is special. Often we found a puppet monkey or a mongoose observing us showering from a nearby tree. The grounds are out of a fairytale. Our driver and tracker, Nambaso and Sedera were just the best. We were able to see the big five, the great migration, and so much more. The breakfasts, lunches, and sundowners on the Maasai Mara were just beyond words. The food was varied and very well prepared and presented. The staff cannot have done more to make our stay a dream come true. Our particular thanks to Calvince, Alpha, Susan, Patrick, Sophie, and Klint. Until we meet again, Asante sana.

We spent four nights at Richard’s camp and it truly was an amazing experience for our first time on safari. The decor is beautiful, think ‘Out of Africa’ and the tented accommodation had all the amenities we needed.
The camp is based in the North conservancy which comes with some perks, we were treated to some picturesque sundowners during our drives as well as some unforgettable bush breakfasts with a chef! We also went to the Masai village, did the walking safari and balloon ride, all of which enriched our stay. There were so many little touches starting with morning coffee to the tent and ending with hot water bottles tucked into beds. Waking up to the sound of hippos and hyenas nearby is quite an experience, but the security guards nearby made sure we didn’t have to worry.
Our special thanks goes to our wonderful guide Dennis, who went above and beyond and whose knowledge kept us continually engaged. He also makes a great G&T!
Also to mention the outstanding staff who were some of the most kindest we have met, including Calvins, John, Alpha, Mike, Estha and Sophia. As well as the chefs, security and all the others I don’t have names for.
All the little touches went a long way and made for such a memorable vacation!

The Masai Mara is located in the south of Kenya. The Camp is well out of the way but staffed with superlative guides (ask for Dennis!), very talented cooks and very comfortable accommodation. The owner and manager are available seemingly 24/7 to cater to almost any whim. It would be difficult to produce a complete list of the animals and birds we saw – lion, leopard, hyena, baboons, elephant, endless wildebeest and gazelles, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and that’s just a starter. The guides are capable of bringing you to a viewing location just a few meters away in some cases. Several times we were treated to ‘bush meals’ – delicious meals out in the wild, surrounded by game animals. Camera safaris just can’t get much better. Highly recommended.

We spent 3 nights at this camp and loved every minute. The management staff… Sara, Sofie and Klint … were always on hand to answer any questions or just make sure you are happy. There are only 9 tents and your group has a private jeep and personal guide throughout your stay. Our guide- John- was a Masai, super knowledgeable and excellent in every way. We enjoyed the campfire cocktail hour, the breakfasts served on morning game drives, the sun downers, the group dinners - but especially lots and lots of game… lions, giraffes, hippos, elephants, a leopard, zebra and wildebeest herds, impala, water bucks, topi, baboons, wart hogs. The highlight was a special surprise celebration of our 58th anniversary we will never forget! thank you for everything!

This is glamping at its best!! What an experience we had. We spent 4 nights at Richard’s River Camp and absolutely loved it. The tent lodging was fantastic. Rustic and charming. Bathroom was great with an outdoor shower. Every morning started with coffee or tea brought to the tent and then we were off for safari jeep rides thru the Masai Mara National Reserve. Such a beautiful country with such an abundance of wildlife. Our driver/guide, Lenny and our spotter Kapute made this trip awsome. So knowledgeable and accommodating. The breakfast and “ sun downers” on the Mara was just mesmerizing. The staff at Richard’s Camp was so helpful, friendly and fun and must mention that the food was just out of this world. Thank you Richard’s Camp for such an unforgettable time at this beautiful place.

This is a wonderful camp with outstanding levels of service and care from the staff. It is set by a river and you watch out for animals wandering by on the hillside. The tent was large and well equipped. Our guide John was very knowledgeable and skilled at getting us into the right place to see the animals and birds. What made this a splendid time was the attitude of care and friendliness of the staff and I can only say thank you.

What a fabulous place. The camp is really beautiful and the 'tents' are so well equipped and luxurious. It really is slice of real Africa. The staff could not have more helpful and charming and the game drives were superb - we saw every animal that you could wish to see. The food was great too. It was like a home from home, the charming and helpful managers Hannah and Prince really created a superb atmosphere - Richards camp is really special, we will be back!

Our stay at Richard's River Camp was outstanding. Hannah and Prince were great hosts, our guide (Dennis) was really good at finding the more elusive animals - we saw all of the big 5 and so much more - and the staff generally were very welcoming. We loved the scale of the Maasai Mara and how quiet it was, so we never felt like we were jostling to get to the cheetah or Leopard - helped also by Dennis's local knowledge.
The camp itself was the perfect balance between real comfort and reminding us that we were very much in a remote part of Africa, which is just what we wanted. Apart from the brilliant wildlife, if I was to pick out one thing it would be the trouble which the team went to to make every day special, whether it was post drive drinks around a fire, or breakfast by the river. A brilliant stay

We had an amazing 2-day visit at Richard's River Camp. Anita the manager and Louis the assistant manager were both wonderful. They were very pleasant, always available and always accommodating. They revolved the schedule around us and not us around a schedule which made it feel more relaxing. I loved that they invited guests to meet before dinner to have cocktails and share their experiences from the day. This was lacking at the other camps we visited. Met wonderful people from around the world. The food was delicious, and our glass was always full. John our ranger and Kaputi our spotter were fantastic. Saw a pride of multiple lions and 2 leopards and an abundance of other wildlife. We were in tent 1 which was very nice with a totally enclosed bathroom and outdoor shower with glass door. Our accommodations were very comfortable. I highly recommend a stay here.

Hello BellaClaire429,
The Masai Mara is a fantastic destination, year round. We have the Great Migration of Wildebeest in July - Sept, this is a very popular time to travel. Quieter times of year are also great due to the temperate climate and cheaper rates. Please reply on here with your email address and we shall send you info on our camp, plus times of year and the rates. Very many thanks, Jessica
