The Philippe Hotel is fairly well situated, and the common areas are nice and well maintained. However, the room was very unimpressive. When we first entered the room, we noted the beds were not made, as if they had not changed the sheets from the previous night's occupants. They did send some one up to change the sheets. The room had no heat, and the windows did not shut all the way. It was cold that night, and my sister and I had to sleep in multiple layers of clothes. Our flight was many hours after check-out time, so we asked the front desk to hold on to our baggage, to which they agreed. When we returned that evening, our bags were sitting in the hallway, unattended, and some of the zippers had been opened. Nothing had been taken, but that was only due to luck, apparently.

being a regular traveller around the place i always, always use tripadvisor.com to check out any potential hotels, resorts ect and because its written by people like myself with completely independant views i find this site invaluable, anyway on that note i would like to give you my review of the philippe hotel luxor egypt, the first night we arrived shattered around 2.30am and were given room 216 which to call it a box was doing it a compliment it was so small you had to move the bed across the room to open the window and when you did open the window the view was horrible looking straight at a brick wall almost like a ventilation shaft we had to keep the lights on even in day time! anyway i immediately went to reception and was told after endless complaining that i would be moved first thing in the morning by 11.00am we still hadnt been moved and with patience wearing thin we decided to just sit it out at reception hoping someone would notice us and do somthing about us! eventually the receptionist came over and asked us were we ok we told her all what we were expecting ect and then after another while she got some keys to show us rooms the first one she took us to was still fairly bad but bearable then i asked was anything else available she took us to the front elavator (theres 2) and anyway the next room she showed us 504 was like a completely different hotel!! wooden floors beautiful balconies and nice bathroom and everything spotless so we immedeatly agreed on this one and after moving all our stuff in a getting settled in we were informed by reception that an extra £65 would be added to our bill which in egypt is a hell of a lot of money! i didnt argue because to be honest we were just so glad to get out of the back rooms but £65 to move from A to B we thought was a bit of a rip off, anyway having said all that we did enjoy the hotel and although the front of the hotel is much noiser the view of the river nile to your right and the city straight ahead is really lovely so overall we would be fair and say its not a bad hotel with a great location and being a budget hotel you get what you pay for breakfast is continental but if you ask for something warm like eggs or toast ect they will make it for you, but if you are booking make sure you ask for a front room nile view the difference really is like night and day, just one other thing if you hate being hassled by local traders and shop keepers dont even go near this area of luxor! we literally couldnt step out the hotel door without being accosted by someone trying to sell you stuff and trail you into their shops to buy something but if you dont mind that then yea the philippe is a fine budget hotel you get what you pay for, hope this review is of some help to you its 100% accurate (click on my hotel photos)

The hotel is well situated--about 10 minute walk to Luxor Temple, restaurants, etc. Like almost all hotels in Egypt there is hotel security present as well as tourist police. It is very clean and there are really nice views from the roof top pool area. All the staff were very polite and helpful with everything that we required.

We have just spent one week in The Philippe Hotel Luxor. The staff here could not do enough to make our stay perfect. If we asked for anything and they could do it, they would do it. Areen and Safwaat who work on reception were always polite and friendly, from first entering the hotel they let us feel welcome and relaxed. The biggest thing for us with a hotel is that it is clean, this hotel was extremely clean in all areas. I have stayed in five star hotels which were no where near as clean. We stayed half board, the breakfast was continental, and the evening meal was a set menu and a mixture of English and Egyptian dishes. There was so much food in these two meals we didn't bother with Lunch. There is a small swimming pool on the roof which again is kept very clean, and a nice little eating / bar area. This hotel was fantastic value for money.

We stayed at the Phillipe for three nights in July 05 as part of a month trip backpacking around Egypt. We stayed in room #504 which had been totally renovated. The room was fantastic, all hardwood flooring, new air conditioning and the latest flat screen TV and satellite CNN. The bathroom was the nicest we encountered on our whole trip. Marble look tiles throughout with gold plated fixtures, right down to the light switches. Pretty first class for only $30 a night.
The location is very good on a side street just off the Corniche along the Nile. You can walk to the Luxor Temple from here and Karnak is a short trip in a horse drawn carriage away.
The people at the front desk were very helpful in organising a trip to the Valley of the Kings for us at a reasonable price when compared to the offerings from some of the larger tour operators in town.
Breakfast was good with excellent service. The restaurant and generally the whole hotel is clean and well kept.
Be advised that some of the rooms on the lower floors had not been renovated yet, so be sure to ask for a renovated room.

As my partner and I were looking for a hotel in Luxor, we came across this really nice hotel website, the pictures were so well taken that we thought, right thats the one but we were SO WRONG! It's the worst hotel we've ever stayed in! When we got to the hotel everything was 10 times smaller, it was dark and has a rotten egg smell.

Location:
We have to give them a thumbs up for the location, its close to most of the major sites on the East Bank (within walking distance). However, there are many other hotels in the same location.

Room:
The room we had was small and smelly, bed sheets were dirty, balcony door cannot be closed properly. The toilet seat was broken, shower water cannot be controlled to a constant temp.. Fridge was broken, TV and lamp wires were frayed.

Reception:
The reception agreed to help us with a reservation on the overnight train to Cairo so they told us everything is fine & reserved. However, when we got to the train station there was no reservations at all and that screwed us over, as all the trains were fully booked for the next couple of days. Also whenever we asked the reception for help, they wanted to charge us more!

Breakfast:
One word - CRAP! It consists of one boiled egg that was not fresh, one small mini jam, butter and cheap spread cheese. OH forgot, they also provide cheap stale bread.

Other Services:
Internet - extra charge!

I would actually rate this hotel as extremely terrible if I could! I would never come back to this hotel ever, not even if you pay me!

The Hotel Philippe was in a great location and a good value for the price. The top floor has a beautiful pool area and is a wonderful place to sit and relax. The buffet breakfast was very nice, with a good selection and tasty food. The hotel common areas are also all really very lovely.
Our room gets mixed reviews. While it was extremely clean and had a gorgeous bathroom, the room was incredibly small and had a tiny window that opened onto the elevator shaft- a completly dark hole with no sunlight whatsoever. We did arrive for a very early check in (7am) so this may have been one of the last rooms left in the hotel at that time of the day. Later that afternoon we were told that we could change, but we had already opened up all our stuff and since we were only staying for one night it didn't seem worth the trouble. I would probably stay here again, although I would ask to see the room first- I was travelling with a large group and the other people all had regular-sized rooms, so I think I was just unlucky!

Where to start?
Checked in at The Philippe with Tour Group. Gf and I were given a twin room which was "changed" into a double. Due to length of phone lead the telephone HAD to remain on the bed (we needed early morning wake-up call). Table in the room had to be moved so that one of us could leave the bed...but that meant the table covered half of the doorway to the bathroom.
We managed to get a room change.
Second room was even worse. Again, small, but, after putting on AC, we managed to get three separate streams of water dripping onto the floor from the ceiling. Took over 45 minutes for a third room to be found...which ended up being the first one again. It was then midnight so we gave up and stayed in it...after re-arranging most of the furniture.
Into bed, and, sheets aren't big enough. It appears that the hotel has no double sheets at all...they simply use single sheets across the bed...and across the body only...your feet dangle out the bottom right underneath the fur-type over-blanket.

Service in this restaurant is absolutely terrible. Other members of the group had to ask for toilet paper four times before it arrived.

Avoid.

My stay at this hotel was very positive. I made a last-minute reservation after seeing how horrible my previous hostel was, so I may have been overly optimistic about the hotel. However, the staff is very friendly, the food is good, the rooms are nice, and the pool was a relaxing and clean. I think this is a good place to stay, especially since the rooms are fairly cheap.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Philippe in Luxor. What can we say?
Excellent value for a budget hotel; it had the service of a more upmarket hotel. Situated in the heart of Luxor, away from the regular tourist hotel area (Downtown) with the temples and museums within easy walking distance, although taxis and caleches had parking areas on the road outside, which led to some hassle from the drivers. This, to us, did not present a problem as hassling is a part of the environment of the town, thus expected.
We went half board, breakfast was continental style with the offer of omelettes, scrambled eggs. The continental style breakfast we found more than adequate. In fact, it sustained us through the day as we found no need to purchase lunch. The evening meals were very good with a varied menu.
Above all, the staff were excellent; friendly, helpful with a true willingness to make our stay enjoyable.
The pool on the roof, though small, was welcoming during the afternoon in the extreme heat and provided an excellent area to cool off and for relaxation, with bar service provided.
We stayed in one of the inner rooms which had no / little daylight but this didn't impact on us very much as we used it only to sleep, shower and change clothes. The air conditioning was very welcome although a little noisy.
We would certainly stay at the Philippe again when we revisit Luxor.
