Nice hotel which worked out really well for our dive vacation in Palau. Big rooms, beds were firm, clean. Nice shower. Pool was nice although it only got direct sun until about 2:30. Hotel staff friendly and very accomodating. Nothing really in walking distance but cabs and the hotel shuttle were good. Food at the restuarant was good to.

I stayed at the Cliffside before and after a Palau Aggressor dive trip. The rooms are clean and air conditioned. The views are good. Passes to the Palau Pacific Resort (a half a mile away) were available.

Most of the patrons are either people going to and from live aboard dive trips or Japanese families with young children. Expect some noise from the families.

The restaurant is adequate for breakfast, but lunch did not look as good, so I ate lunch elsewhere.

Airport transfers are provided by the Palau Pacific Resort's bus.

This was our 3rd trip to Palau to dive. We were catching a liveaboard and needed overnight accommodations the day of arrival and a day-room before catching the plane home. Previously we have stayed at the Palau Pacific Resort, a wonderful resort in Palau, but pricey. Cliffside is about half the price, and yes, maybe half the quality. The hotel is dated and they appear to be gradually refurbishing it. The rooms are small by current standards. Everything was clean. BUT you get 1 pillow per person, no in-room coffee, no hair-dryer, no elevator, etc. There is a refrigerator. And a nice view from the deck. The AC "works" but not adequately even when turned to 17 degrees (Celsius).

Hopefully the new owners (Neco Marine) will bring the quality up to Neco's usual standards over the next year or so.

Can I recommend it? Yes, as a 2-3 star hotel, but clean and reasonably priced for Palau.

I'd much rather put my enery in something more positive, but feel I have to warn people who have booked at this hotel. As regular travellers my husband and I like to get our things sorted well in advance to avoid unwelcome surprises, but then we counted outside of the new Cliffside Hotel owner...
July 2014: After comparing hotels rates in Koror and checking the services that reservations in this hotel included: free airport transfers, swimming pool, including breakfast and every day a free pass for the beach facilities at the Pacific resort, we decided to stay here two nights before and three nights after our diving liveaboard (which departed in January 2015). The rate for the room was 120$ per night. We contacted the hotel, sent them our credit card details and we received a formal confirmation with all above services and agreements mentioned on the confirmation.
Fast forward to January 13, 2015: Less then 24 hours before we get onto the plain to Palau I receive an e-mail from the Cliffside hotel stating that their room rates have gone up to 195$ for the first two nights and to 225$ for the last three nights!! They add that they do not give out passes for the Pacific hotel anymore and that airport tranfers now cost 30$ per person one way!! To end their message they ask if we want to keep our reservation?!
I mean, two days before our reservation and stepping on the plain just a few hours later, there was absolutely no time to find alternative accommodation!
I replied immediately by e-mail saying that we have a formal confirmation on different terms (and add the form in the attachment) and tell them that this is illegal and that they should keep their changes for new bookings.
Two hours later without receiving a reply (by that time it was evening in Palau), I called the hotel (from Belgium). The very nice reception clerk said that all would be sorted out when we got there.
But that was not the case. Once there, they said that the hotel was sold in October and that all bookers had been contacted with the new rates and terms. (On getting home I scanned all my e-mails from that time - including the spam filter in case they had send it out in bulk mail, I received no e-mail whatsoever from the hotel in October!).
Tho days later we arrive in Palau at 4AM (so in fact we had then already used up half of our first night) and all we can think of is to get some sleep.
We get up and 9 and ask to talk to the reservation officer. She was very polite but insisted that they needed to do what the owner had decided. When we asked to speak with him, they said that he was "not on the islands". In the end, trying to make the best of an impossible situation, we agreed to pay 170$ for the first two nights and we didn't have to pay for the airport pick-up. Still jet lagged they gave us a ride into town after breakfast so we could find alternative accommodation for the three nights after the diving trip. Needless to say that the only thing we found vacant for 10 days later was an extremely chabby youth hostel. But honestly by then we would have accepted to sleep in a bathtub by the side of the road just to get away from those scammers.
In addition (not out of spite but simply true): the included breakfast consisted of 4 items and 4 items only: french toast, eggs, bacon and sausage. All of those were absolutely stone cold and mostly unedible. The food was places in food warmers but there was no heating underneath. The second morning we got up much earlier at 7.30 and while the french toast was replaced by pancakes, everything was once again stone cold with no burners below the trays. There was no bread or toast, no jam, just the 4 mentioned items.
Our room was very spacious, relatively clean but very dated. The swimming pool area: very dated with loos tiles etc. At the pool we saw men talking about renovating the site, but nothing has been renewed yet, not in the hotel either (so there is absolutely no justification for the rate raise whatsoever).
When talking to the staff it became clear that we weren't the only ones who were extremely unhappy and apart from three Asian guests we saw in the breakfast room, the hotel seemed to be deserted.

We had a disappointing stay at this hotel. Unfortunately we were pretty much locked in to a 20 day stay - about 18-20 days too many I'm afraid. So, we had a chance to study the hotel in some detail.

We were taken in by the online photos... They do look much nicer than the reality. Though its prices are not exorbitant for this part of the world, we found the Cliffside to be overpriced for what it is. Our room was small and more like a prison-cell than a hotel room (better perhaps for a very short business stay than a longer vacation).

Some staff were very helpful. Others were not at all.

It is a very, very long walk to Koror for provisions. The hotel's shuttle bus runs only in evenings and it takes a very circuitous route.

Smoking is allowed in bar/restaurant. This is very offputting and kept us out. Difficult to choke down breakfast when you're choking on stale cigarette smoke...

Poolside meals are delivered from in-hotel restaurant. Takes a very long time for the meals to arrive and they were always cold (though we learned and made pilgrimages on the shuttle to Koror).

Some facilities (including pool) off-limits to guests if the hotel had booked in a function.

(We do recommend the Rock Island Cafe in Koror for day-to-day meals. Great food; good prices; interesting ambiance.)

This hotel looks great online but has plenty of problems. We intended to stay 4 nights, but rushed to leave after the first night. Problems with roaches, filthy floors, hard beds, indifferent staff. Very basic and spartan rooms which aren't clean. Very mouldy odors. This place is rather pricey which might be worth it as the view is terrific, but the room is really not even comparable to the budget rooms in other hotels in Koror. They don't even provide basic amenities one might expect when paying $140 per night, such as some instant coffee, hairdryer, etc which other less pricey hotels in Palau provide routinely. Just not worth it. Also note that they have a 36 hr. cancellation policy and charge a full night's fee for any cancellation once you book. So watch out! Also, there is no elevator in case that matters to you although staff did help us with the luggage.

I stayed at the Cliffside for one night of a 4 night business stay. Staff were friendly but the room for $120 was decidely subpar. It smelled terribly of mould and when i dimmed the light to sleep two huge roaches immediatley appeared. I killed one but the other got away. To avoid the escapee crawling over me while I slept I kept the light on all night. The room had no window that would open to clear the mould smell. I would expect this kind of room for $40 per night but not for $120. rating TERRIBLE!

This rating applies to Americans and Europeans. If you are Chinese, then the rating would be "Average". Since last October (2014), the hotel has been managed BY Chinese FOR Chinese. English speaking people need not apply (that seems to be the attitude of the new management). The menu has brief titles in both English and Chinese, but everything else is in Chinese ONLY. That's right, good luck with that one! When I was there the hotel was busy, and I was the only non-Chinese person there for the 3 days of my stay.

The facility is in decent shape and clean. The rooms are very good sized. It appears that the new owners are investing money in the hotel. But, the food is mediocre at best, and the menu is totally oriented toward Chinese tastes. The chef seems challenged to be able to prepare eggs the way you request.

The hotel is four stories high (one below the lobby and two above), and there is no elevator! The restaurant is one flight up from the lobby, and not connected to the rooms on the same level. So, if your room is on the fourth floor, you walk down two flights to the lobby, and then up one flight to the restaurant. Great exercise if you're into physical fitness!

When I got there, I found out that since the new manager had taken over, their liquor license has been under review. That was five months before I arrived, and it is still not resolved!

I recently spent a night at the Cliffside before leaving on a dive trip & was expecting a nice but not fancy room. My room has large & clean but the paint was peeling and the air conditioner leaked so there was a wet spot on the floor. The air conditioner worked but you couldn't change the temperature up or down. They have new owners so hopefully they will be doing some routine maintenance. I figured, ok, one night will be fine. Then the hot pot in the room didn't work for coffee. (I got up at 5:30 because of jet lag & needed coffee, bad!) I went to the front desk and got some hot water from a dispenser so that was ok. Then I asked for a couple of extra packets of coffee (there was 1 in my room) and she told me that they didn't have any. Really? I asked again at 7, after I figured housekeeping would be there and was refused again. Maybe I'm being picky but after spending 26 hours of traveling, just a little kindness and reasonable effort would have been appreciated. I have never had any hotel not give you a couple of extra packets of coffee if you asked nicely. We were planning on hitting the pool too but it was closed and they said it was unsafe to use. It had been closed for a month. Later in the day, they said it was now safe to use. Nope, I don't think so. One other thing to note, the brochures in the lobby and the web site said they had a sharing agreement with the Palau Pacific Resort to use their facilities on day passes, they do not! I will not be recommending the Cliffside unless it is the only option for my clients that need an overnight or a day room in Palau. It is becoming pretty shabby and the staff made it pretty clear that they didn't care if I was there or not. It's really a shame because they are in a nice location.

Arrived on Christmas eve night and while they had a Christmas tree decorated and music playing, it was a bit depressing as it was just an ok hotel. Though, from what I can tell, there are not many luxury resorts on the island. The good news is that you can get a day pass for the Palau Pacific, so I spent Christmas day there.

Rooms were large yet basic. Not many bathroom amenities.

That said, the staff was very nice and helped with several requests. If you are okay with basic accommodations, it would be fine to stay at.
