Detailed Reviews
I was skeptical when this hotel was booked but staying here changed it and it was defintely an excellent choice. The hotel is warm and cosy with lovely and helpful staff guiding and providing you information. The room i stayed in was just perfect - mini-bar, clean toilet and beds though the tv was tiny (which is okay). Food was good and excellent wifi to work. The hotel is close to most of everything - restaturants, shopping and the running track (though they need to improve or upgrade their gum equipment). They have a paid laundry service. loved it and will come back if I visit Palau

Room is clean and comfortable with the daily servicing. Location is also close to supermarkets, local market and other hotels. Staff are great. There is a hair and beauty salon on ground floor. Laundry is easy. Restaurant is great with lovely cakes daily to buy.

if you are going to Palau on business, or combination of business and pleasure, the Penthouse Hotel is great! it is located right in the business district, and is walking distance to the major stores and best places to eat! it also is one of the few places that has wi-fi, which is not easy to come by in Palau. the staff is wonderful, and there is a small restaurant downstairs. it's not next to the water, but you won't be tempted to skip out on your work duties as much by staying here!

If you ask for a few hours late check out you will be charged $60 without notification. Also, beware that they will try and get away with an early check in scam by charging you an extra day. This is the treatment we got after staying six days in a hotel that was largely empty when we arrived and when we departed. They need to treat customers as valued guests and not as walking wallets to be siphoned.

English not fluently spoken here but there is as least some goodwill to help you out.
Staff was particularly helpful in booking tours and car rental.
Every question I mailed before arriving in Palau was answered promptly.
Noise from the outside such as dogs barking at night , traffic and nearby roosters is annoying early morning. There is also a construction site only 20 meters from the hotel.
Very slow -128 KB- internet access from PCs available on each floor but don’t expect to use WiFi internet access directly from your room using your laptop : signal is way too low and shuts down each and every minute. The only basic access I’ve got using my laptop was on my room’s balcony or when I was 1 meter from the modem/router.
My room #204 was large and particularly clean and housekeeping was performed daily.
A/C, cable TV, refrigerator and hot water worked fine. Clean reception area and halls.
Check-out was quick since my bill has been prepared and the amount was right.
However, note that the hotel’s neighborhood is not exceptional with no beach nearby but close to “downtown” Koror.

I chose this hotel because it lodges the flight crews for the airline I am employed with. Being a flight mechanic my employer always looks for hotels that provide the best rooms and services for their employees at the lowest prices. When I had to make a quick getaway with my wife to Palau we booked a room with them. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The hotel has different rooms to choose from depending on your budget, you can choose from having twin beds or a single King/Queen size bed. The rooms are really clean, have mini refrigerators in them, modern air conditioners (LG brand), and cable TV. Each rooms is provided with extra pillows and blankets in the closet, and upon request they even provide futons. Every room has a small balcony that you can sit out on but the view is not spectacular as the hotel is located in town; you can watch locals getting around. I think there is a "No Smoking" rule but you can smoke out on the balcony. Each room has a smoke detector (no sprinkler system), and balcony has a chain ladder as there is no fire escape stairway. The hotel has a restaurant/Bakery that provides room service as well, and the cleaning staff are quick to have your beds made and the room cleaned. There is free access to broadband Internet connection, but found the connection sluggish. We had boxes we needed to pack and the staff allowed us to use their office and conference room to pack our boxes and store them in their office. Overall I was impressed with the rooms, staff and services they provided, and would recommend the Penthouse Hotel to everyone who wants a cozy hotel at affordable price.

Penthouse review
This hotel is often the preferred base for people working in Palau on short term assignments. If you are looking for a resort with any kind of sea view this is definitely not the place for you, but where it has the edge perhaps is its proximity to restaurants in Koror. Rooms at the front of the hotel may have more road noise but seem better apportioned and lighter, and avoid rooms near the stairs on first floor as these can be noisy with people congregating there. All the bedrooms have very solid dark wooden furnishings giving the place an old style Spanish/South American feel which isn't to everyones taste - but the hotel has all the basics covered - its very clean, has comfortable beds, its own cafe/restaurant, even a 'beauty salon' , there's also free wifi, but access can be poor in many of the rooms. TVs are old with mostly news channels. Some divers stay here - you can walk to Fish and Fins for example, book your diving and after that they'll pick you up at the hotel every morning. Another plus is that the hotel rates are more reasonable than the resorts, if you are on a tighter budget.

If you are visiting Palau and want a clean room with excellent water pressure and a convenient location, the Penthouse is your place! If you travel a lot and expect the basics of a hotel room and not looking for extravagance, then this is your place. They told us at check-in that if we had a late flight on our last day that we could extend our check-out until we left, which was at 10pm for $60! That is absolutely worth it since we were out on the boat with SwingsTours for the entire day and definitely needed to shower before our flight to Guam. I highly recommend staying here if you are going to visit Palau!

Located within easy walking distance of several major shopping centers and many restaurants serving Japanese, Korean, Indian, Thai and Western food. Seems to be mostly used by businessmen and consultants. Nicely furnished, good sized clean rooms, quiet air conditioner, plenty of hot water. Pleasant staff and decent restaurant with way too tempting desserts. Airport pickup and delivery if notified in advance. Wifi in the rooms which varies from snail speeds to good enough for video Skype. Of the mid-range hotels in downtown Koror, the Penthouse seems about the best overall. For the tourist looking to dive, it is fine as a place to stay but you will need to arrange with a dive shop yourself as there is no tour desk. But the front desk does have the numbers of tour operators and dive shops so you can all and make arrangements without much trouble. They have a small event room suitable for 20 or 25 people and a "fitness center" with an old treadmill and a few dumbbells, not very interesting. There is no formal "business center" but the hotel office is across from reception and can assist with copying, printing and such.

We were in Palau for a dive trip. We booked the vacation on relatively short notice, at the early end of the high season. I checked many of the dive/vacation oriented hotels, and their prices were really very high. A Palauan at a local (to the US) dive shop recommended that we look into the Penthouse for its lodging as well as the restaurant that is inside the hotel. Reservations were made easily, and the price was much lower that the resort style hotels.
Just for some context. As travelers we typically choose value hotels, as we're normally out and about for most of the stay. We value a clean, secure, serviceable location with consistent hot water, electricity, and a staff that is helpful in arranging things when needed. The Penthouse was all of these things. There were helpful in coordinating with dive shops as well as arranging a rental car on pretty short notice. The staff were always (with one small exception) helpful and invariably friendly. The one exception was when the hotel wifi went out after a power outage. The desk folks really didn't know much about the gear, and it was up to me to reboot the DSL model, and the router. It was all good.
We did not try the restaurant, but heard from many that it is excellent. They do serve the local delicacy (fruitbat), but we just couldn't do it. We didn't eat cuy in Aguas Calientes, either.
As to the location. It's in the middle of Koror, one block off the main street,so it can't help but be a little noisy. The plus that comes with this is that it's walking distance to most of the restaurants, stores, museums and sights in Koror. The Dive shops will come get you, so you don't need to make sure your hotel is close to the docks. The car rental places will drop off the car at the hotel. If you want complete calm, this isn't the place for you. If you want sunset views, this isn't the place for you. But is is close to those things, and a fair price. We would definitely stay again.
