We booked a suite to have a kitchen available. The kitchen was sparsely furnished, but adequate for our purposes. The room itself was quite large, and the beds were comfortable. The a/c was very efficient and kept the room plenty cool and the humidity level down. The staff was also efficient and friendly.

It's a great location to stage if you're diving with Sam's Tours- a 2-3 minute drive or a 10-minute walk.

My husband and I just returned from 2 weeks in Palau. We stayed in the Palau Royal Resort (PRR) for the first 2 nights of our stay (it was an air/hotel package) then moved to the West Plaza Malakal for the remainder of our stay. The PRR had great amenities and very polite staff, sometimes almost to an irritating point. The beds are made for Japanese guests (which this hotel caters to) so they are hard as rocks to sleep on. The views from our room were amazing though and the pool and beach were great too. The breakfast which was included was good but again more of an Asian flair so if you are wanting a hearty American breakfast, go to one of the local restaurants which have them at very reasonable prices. After we moved to the West Plaza Malakal we were only about 1/2 of a block away from PRR so still in a good location. This hotel is a no frills, no view, no amenities place so please don't expect them if you stay there. The staff was very attentive, polite, and assisted us with everything. We were diving 3 tanks each day so we only needed a place to sleep so this place was great. They offer military discount which was great and the prices even without the discount were really reasonable. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment there which had a kitchenette and the original price was only $145 a night so the price was great for what we got. The beds were more of an American style so much more comfortable than the first place. We did have to sleep in twin beds because each bedroom had 2 twins instead of one larger one. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an economic way to enjoy the amazing diving in Palau. The Palm Bay Bistro is only steps away from the lobby and has fantastic food for every meal at great prices. Kramer's is another restaurant that is just a block away and has great food at great prices as well. Also if you plan to dive I recommend the Neco Marine dive shop. Most people use Sam's Tours so their boats are always very full and they often go to the same dive sites many times per week. Neco was much more personable, had better boats, less people per boat, and a great staff both for diving and the dive shop.

I chose this spot because it's close to Sam's and the price was right, and I was traveling alone without my family. It's not the kind of place most U.S. couples would be comfortable staying but for me it was adequate. They now have wifi that works in the rooms, as well as any wifi seems to work on this island. Staff was friendly. Even though they were only half full, they adhered to the noon checkout even though my flight was 2:30 am. Don't worry about not being downtown. They were several good, local, funky restaurants within 5 minute walk, e..g Kramers and Carp, plus Sam's which has a quintessential "tropics" bar and grill open-area right on the ocean/Bay. This hotel has views of the bay from most rooms, although you don't have the sense of being close to water. All in all, if you have low expectations and want to save some money or otherwise don't want to stay at the fancier spots, the rooms are relatively quiet and clean enough for someone who is mainly there to dive.

First, the location of West Plaza Malakal makes it very convenient when you dive with Sams Tours, as you can walk there in 10 minutes. Second, you are right next to the port where the boat to Peleliu departures from, which is a must for divers to go to. Third, you have Palm Bay Bistro Restaurant in front of the hotel, where you are seated overlooking the bay close enough to feed the fish from your table. In addition you have another restaurant with great atmosphere and food overlooking the bay, Kramers, with its varied selection of cuisine. I stayed there in july four years ago, and it was between 40 to 50 dollars a night, making it much cheaper than the higher quality accomodation in Koror, but still have very clean and spacious rooms and friendly staff. So if you are not there with children and your focus is diving, this place is very good value for money.

What can I say other than its very basic! There are absolutely no frills, it's an air conditioned box with a bed. The AC noisy, the bed is lumpy, there is no free WIFI and the pay WIFI was none existent. Fortunately for me, I was only staying there for 12 hours; flights leave Palau at a ridiculous time in the morning. If you were coming on your dream dive holiday and you stayed at the West Plaza, it would be a disaster!

My husband and I stayed at West Plaza for five nights in September, 2014. We will absolutely stay here again on our next Palau trip. The rooms are clean and the service is excellent. Our included breakfast next door @ the Palm Bistro Cafe was surprisingly good (2 eggs any style, bacon or sausage, 2 pieces of toast, and a glass of Tang). There's no wifi in the rooms, but wifi in Palau is notoriously slow so lobby-only wifi was irrelevant. West Plaza Malakal is a 5-minute walk to Sam's Tours (or about a 2-minute drive) which is perfect after a long day on the water and a 45-minute boat ride back to the dock. Kramer's (great restaurant on the water) is a parking lot away. The location is away from "downtown" but this was not an issue for us (restaurants in Palau were set up to provide round-trip free transport to and from the hotel). This is not a fancy hotel and there is no pool. But if you'll be diving every day, this is an excellent hotel for the value.

We stayed here for one night, because the Sea Passion Hotel was fully booked on our last day. The West Plaza Malakal is close to the port of the public boat to Peleliu.

Some would say this is a budget hotel. However the nightly rates are not much lower than the rates of Sea Passion Hotel. The rooms are noisy, the bathroom needed some new paint because of the fungus.

Kramers is just around the corner, nice place to have a lunch or meal.

Arrived Koror late night, stayed a hotel for one night until boat transfer to Peleliu next morning. Simple, utilitarian hotel---which is exactly what we needed. Van shuttle from airport waiting for us, check-in easy, good adjacent restaurant for breakfast, room clean and in good condition. No frills hotel provided place to stay while en route next location.

We were two couples in a 2bd, 1ba unit (301) with full kitchen. Lots of room. Shower was great. Beds slept well. Very clean. No bugs. Maid service was excellent. Walking distance to Sam's Tours, where we dove. Walking distance to several excellent restaurants.

We stayed for one week in an apartment with kitchen and two separate bedrooms. It is a really good place for a family, and also a relatively good price (as good as it gets in Palau). Clean, no luxury though. Good aircondition, TV. Internet works via PNCC, where you have to buy the cards. We were told it only worked in the lobby, but it actually worked in the room as well! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Can certainly recommend this hotel!
