Absolutely stunning, beautiful grounds. Just know it's a 3-star property - and isolated - without a car it's a little tricky to get around. Front desk gave me a list of restaurants that offer free transport else you need to hire a taxi. Nothing nearby, and it's too hot to walk. No restaurant/bar/jacuzzi open onsite during the day, open in the evening only. Rooms honor traditional Palau culture, loved that. Perfect place to stay after liveaboard dive trip while waiting for 3:00am flight. They got me in early (no extra charge). Lots of steps, definitely not an "accessible" property. Peaceful, gorgeous.

My wife and I just returned from a 6 day holiday in Palau and we must say that we truly had a wonderful time. We cannot say enough about the Palau Plantation Resort. What a terrific place!
When doing a search through most of the hotel search engines on the internet, I found that only 2 or 3 were listed (In reality there must be at least a dozen hotels in Koror). It was only through TripAdvisor that we came upon the Palau Plantation Resort. On the strength of the one review (at that time) we contacted the hotel.
This is a full service hotel with a limited number of rooms (bungalows) (There are only 15 rooms). Service is wonderful. The hotel, like many in Palau is aimed at a Japanese clientele and as such, the accommodations and service are at a "Dai ichi" standard.
We stayed in a superior cabin. The setting was spectacular. With a large balcony looking out to the Rock islands, it was a wonderful place to be. The bathtub and shower also had an unobstructed view of the mountains and plantation. Incidentally, the bathroom was marble and spotless. The aircon worked very well as did everything in the room.
I have travelled extensively in the Pacific. This is my 4th trip to Palau. The Plantation Resort is the tops.

This could potentially be a nice, secluded resort but we found it to be in need of renovating, repair, and improvement. The rooms were ok with small balconies. Mattresses were fairly comfortable but blankets needed to be replaced. Bathrooms were the nicest feature with a nice shower and an array of goodies like travel hairbrushes, toothbrushes, and travel body towels in addition to shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Everything seemed clean. The door locks were very flimsy but security did not seem to be an issue. There was a set of perhaps 25 steep stairs that had to be climbed in order to reach the level where the rooms were located. No easy feat slugging suitcases. Outside, the pool seemed unused and not especially clean looking. There were no chaise lounges, umbrellas, or anything around the pool at all, giving it a closed down, vacant appearance. There were three rattan chairs on a sunporch but they were broken and uncomfortable to sit in. The entire place felt empty to us. We rarely saw or heard any other people there. Special note: this is not a place for anyone with difficulty walking or climbing stairs. The walkways are mostly stone (the bigger ones that are sharp and hurt your feet too much to go barefoot) and rolling luggage on them is going to damage the wheels for sure. It is also a good 15 minute walk from town, which made it inconvenient to grab a meal out (we never ate at the small restaurant there and didn't ever see anyone use it). There is a hotel shuttle which only runs in the late afternoons and evenings. We had friends who stayed at the hotels in town and thought they would have been a better choice.

I had booked this hotel based on the reviews as they seemed favorable and the pictures showed a little character, but I ended up checking out the next morning.
We were in one of the rooms for $180, so I new this was the "bargain" room if you will. It is around 11 at night when we arrived. The first thing I notice is there is no night stands on either side of the bed. Therefore no lights for reading etc. There are no outlets except one over by the small built in desk. I always travel with an extension chord and it is a good thing. I pulled the chair over for my night stand.
Next I realize there is no dresser/drawers of any kind. Sometimes there are built-in's, in the closet…nope. There is no suitcase rack either. The only option is putting your suitcase on the floor and of course hanging your cloths. The thought of bending over in and out of my suite cases for a week was not pleasing, but I will just have to get past that. I get in bed and it is very firm. Way to hard for me and then I realize this hum I have been hearing since we got in the room is louder and annoying. Checked the a/c - no. The little frig. - yep. The hum was so bad even my husband was bothered by it and it takes a lot to annoy him. So we unplugged the frig. Cold water for me is like most people's coffee, so not to happy about this.
In the morning I can hear people coming and going. As long as it would not have gotten any worse than that it may have been something you could live with. I go out to have a look on the patio to have my first look in the light. The patio is very small. No room for chairs so there are two stools. I did not expect the patio to be this small. Now I know why there is no picture of this patio. The view is when you lean out a bit or stand in the outside corner only. I ended up taking the stools inside to put my suitcase on. Also on the patio there was a nest on the wall of some type of flying little bugs. Just hundreds of them buzzing around their nest, right next to the stools. There was bug spray in the room. My husband sprayed it. House keeping should have seen that and taken care of that. There is a bug problem there and so they do supply sprays and have a quiet zapper in the room. You are amongst the trees, that is not the hotels fault and they are doing there best to fight it.
The pictures show that the rooms are covered in wood and it makes for a dark room. To dark for me and not enough light coming in to compensate for that. The only light was a bulb hanging in the middle of the room and a small light on the "desk". Bring a book light if you want to read at night. If tv is of interest to you please note in the pictures the size of the tv. It is the smallest box tv I have ever seen. It is rare, if ever, I turn a tv on, on vacation, but if it matters to you, don't pick this room.
The bathroom. Well, it is clean and the tile is in good shape and the shower rather large. But you can not open the door to the bathroom completely as there is a shelf behind the door that sticks out from the wall that holds the supplied toiletries and blow dryer. The door opens about 2/3 of the way. The sink is a pedestal sink right up against a wall to your right and the toilet is right next to it on the left. There is about 6 inches between the left of the sink and the top of the toilet tank. So due to the wall along the side of the sink you have to kind of side step once to the left to have any use of your right arm. Now you are standing over a tiny little basket with a lid that you use to dispose of your toilet tissue. Now I have been through this in Europe, but I was not expecting that here. And the toilets are usually in a separate space, so this was not to pleasing. Also the bathroom was a step up which was awkward since the door could not open all the way.
To breakfast. I ordered the American which was - 1 egg, 2 pieces of bacon and a small, lettuce only salad with some type of pretend Ranch dressing. The tables are like a barrel, something right out of the 70's. Due to the design you can not put your legs under the table. As a result you are either leaning over or sitting somewhat sideways. The staff had the radio on some type of disco rap station. That would be fine if I was sitting in a bar or in the afternoon hanging out, but not at 8 in the morning. I was about to ask them to turn it down or better yet change it, but I was soon done and just wanted to get out of there.
Also the hot tubs where not working and had not been working for several months. There was a note of apology in the room that I think went back to November, not positive on the time. Later in our trip on an excursion we met some folks staying there and they were complaining about it as well and mentioned something like 6 months it has been closed.
After breakfast I had, had enough and made arrangements to go elsewhere. I went to the front desk and told them I was not happy and that I would like to get out of my reservation. In the end they charged me for two nights, although I stayed one. They never offered anything to improve my stay; they did not suggest a different room or anything. I am not sure I would have stayed even if they had, but I found it odd. There was not much interest in what I felt had gone wrong.
My brief encounter with the staff was pleasant and the property was clean. Any one, two or three of these things I could deal with, but it was just too much going wrong and that would make a week long stay miserable. I have stayed in places far less than this and far more in both comfort and price so it was not a matter of expectation there were just too many things not right. I almost feel bad writing this review as it sounds a bit nit picky, but it is my experience and it may help someone else.

This was our first time in Koror, Palau for scuba diving and we chose PPR as part of our dive package.
The property is quite relaxing and definitely gives you the Micronesian feel. The customer service was amazing, especially from the Japanese women. We received an upgrade for our room and it was beautiful.
We were, however, a little disappointed with the restaurant and the spa. At the restaurant, the service by the waitpeople had many shortcomings. For instance, when we asked for some clarification on the ingredients of an item, we were met most times with blank stares as they didn't know the menu. Another time, we asked her specifically to not give us our entrees until we finished our appetizers and they came at the same time. Things like this shouldn't happen at a resort which charges $7 - $8 more than restaurants in downtown Koror that offer free transport!
Re the spa, we purchased their 2-hour treatment for $120 and it was NOT worth it. While it was possible my masseuse was a real CMT, it was the same woman who cleaned our room a few days before! (If she really did get training from either the Philippines or Palau, then their training is terrible!) In addition, the atmosphere you'd expect to have in tropical spa was non-existent - I had to tell them to turn OFF the music as what sounded like a Lizst piano sonata just didn't create a very relaxing experience!
So, overall, I think the service as you'd expect it from the Japanese was 100% there. But, from the Filipinos, it was definitely short. (This was disappointing as I am a Filipino-American.) It's all in the details, and when you pay what you pay for the PPR - especially with its restaurant and spa - it's just not there.

First let me say - I know this is an isolated spot and do NOT expect US level of service. We are experienced world wide travelers - and completely understand that one's expectations need to be reasonable. But this resort was really a disappointment. While the rooms were pretty, wooden, with high ceilings and a pretty jungle view - you were only given one large towel and one small one in the room. Despite promised TV and Internet - neither worked at all during our stay. Reports to the front desk were greeted with shrugged shoulders. I know it's an island - but then say so - don't promise something that doesn't work at all. The sauna/jacuzzi has been closed and under construction - since August 2013 - almost a year. They work on this loudly - right next to the pool area - daily. The pool was not especially clean - and the pool chairs were very uncomfortable and not in the sun. We sat at the pool one afternoon for 2 hours within view of the restaurant and saw several workers - none of whom made any effort to offer food or drink. Our included breakfast was not a buffet - and the service was minimal despite only 4 or 5 people in the restaurant. A vegetarian omelette was a can of mixed veggies (peas, corn, carrots, and beans) poured into a couple of scrambled eggs. For some reason the staff were very concerned about picking up our luggage before we left - they actually called and woke us up at midnight the night before to check on this - despite our repeated assurances that we could take our bags up to the lobby on our own. There were numerous other examples of the staff who - though friendly - just seemed either lost or apathetic or both. Even asking how to find a local beach (Riptide) resulted in a frantic search for a map and much uncertainty (it was less than 10 minutes away). Overall we found the resort somewhat rundown, overpriced, and with staff who generally were pleasant but unhelpful. Would strongly consider staying somewhere else unless you're just looking for someplace to crash between dives.

Staying at this resort was an excellent experience. This was the most expensive accommodation I stayed at while travelling in Asia (including Tokyo), but it did not disappoint. The resort did give us a free upgrade from the Premium Cabin to the Superior Cottage, for which I am forever grateful.
Highlights:
-The upgrade is truly a major reason why I was so happy with this experience. We felt like we were at home in this jungle-view getaway. The shower/tub was next to a huge window with no curtain....it felt like showering in the jungle! The high, peak ceiling made it feel very roomy. The balcony was a personal highlight – it was large with a spectacular view of the jungle. I cherished my daily routine of smoking cigars and drinking Koror’s Red Rooster beer while on this balcony. And our cottage was right on the edge of the property, which is a location I really liked as sometimes the pool area was noisy. We were in the Star Apple cottage, or #3017.
-The airport pick-up and drop-off is also a major perk. Our flight was about 2 hours late, but representative was still there waiting for us at 3:00am. And the seashell necklace was a pleasant surprise upon pick-up.
-Also appreciated was the late check-out at no extra charge. Since we checked in so late for our first night, it was the right thing for them to do (without having to ask).
-Upon check-in, the resort also gave us vouchers for free fruit smoothies/shakes. These were delicious. They also provided a 10% discount voucher for the Jungle Bar. This was an incentive to go in and try it out. At the advice of a local, we tried the fried ice cream. It did not disappoint, and I highly recommend it. It costs $10, but it is large and comfortably feeds two people.
-Location: for those who want to be close to town, this resort is a great choice. While you’re not on a beach, you have access to all the comforts of a town. Grocery shopping, beer/alcohol, souvenirs, museums/attractions, restaurants, and massages are all at your fingertips at this location. It is a very easy walk from the resort to town, which is about 10 minutes through residential roads. There are even small shops along the way, so you may be able to purchase what you need just seconds away from the resort. We did this walk at least a couple of times a day, day and night. There are even ‘lanterns’ in your room if you want to make this walk at night.
Other tips and items worth mentioning:
-While the resorts and excursions are quite expensive, prices of things in town (e.g., restaurants, groceries, beer/alcohol) are reasonable by Canadian price standards. For instance, you can get a can of Carlsberg beer for $1, and you can pay less than this for other beers if you buy a case. We even found a place to go for a donut and coffee in the morning.
-There is free Wi-Fi access in the lobby area, where the chairs are located. But note that the signal strength is quite weak, and not strong enough for Skype. It also made for a slow e-mailing process.
-I’m not sure why, but the airport security process getting to Palau was intense. I’m not sure if this is because of the airline we were with (United), the departure city (Manila), the destination, or perhaps there was a specific security threat. On the way to Palau we were asked for proof that we had booked our departure flight tickets on three separate occasions. And right at the flight gate before boarding for the Palau flight, I went through the most intense security process than anywhere else in my travels. It was like a security assembly line....first we went to a station where they physically searched every carry-on item; then off to a separate person who pats you down; then off to another person who examines your shoes. And we went through all this after having already gone through security twice before that in the same airport.

We booked our accommodation with Sam's Tours for 7 night trip during the week of Thanksgiving. I was going to go with Palau Pacific Resort, but the rooms were not available for the dates. The lady at Sam's Tour had recommend us to stay at Palau Plantation Resort. We decided to go with local recommendation and book there without much knowing about the accommodation.
To our total surprise, Palau Planation Resort was more than what we asked for and more! It's only about 3 year old, and everything inside and out look new. The plants, flowers were lush. They are beautifully planted around resort and each individual rooms. We stayed in a bungalow with our own walk way. The rooms were stained dark wooden planks walls reaching all the way to the triangular ceiling. The ceiling was open feel. The room make you feel like you are absolutely on vacation.
I was in total awe from the first day i was there. The plantation provide great modern amenties, including Japanese style toilet. the towels are thick, and there's even pairs for slippers.
Room service were impeccable. Staff are friendly, helpful, and they always put a smile on their face.
the bathroom is practically all marble tiled. the bathtub is twice as big as regular bath tub. We staying in our room every morning to have breakfast brought to us. The breakfast was delicious!! I practically have American, continental, asian, and Japanese.
I cannot say enough good things about this place, and this would be the place that I come back to on my next vacation to Palau

Palau Plantation Report applies a new approach in hospitality: eco-tourism. When booking my first trip to Palau, I wanted to stay away from high-end, all-inclusive, luxury resorts. Honestly, that doesn't scream tropical island getaway to me. Palau Plantation Report, however, does! The entire complex was built by hand! I love that I didn't have hundreds of neighbors. With only a few rooms or villas available, the walking paths and restaurants were spared large droves of people during high traffic times. Every tour company I booked with picked me up at the hotel... though, most of the time I booked through the hotel with their excellent on-site tour agent. The hotel gift shop features local crafts and art. And the restaurants featured vegetables grown in the hotel garden, which you can view from a villa accommodation! Also in your villa view is the silent, still, and oh so relaxing mangrove lagoon. On full moon nights, the river at the foot of the resort swells and you can take night kayak tours of the lagoon... how perfect is that??
