on our way to Jerusalem we decided to spend Friday night in Bethlehem. The Walled Off Hotel delivered all what we expected and it promised. Impressive the sight of the wall with its turrets from your room, great the ambiance and the atmosphere of the hotel, interesting the history (though one-sided) of Palestine one learns from the info and data-rich displays in the museum, fantastic the politeness of the whole staff and the feeling of being truly welcome. We checked in the Banksy room: I haven't see the other rooms but this is nice, large, comfortable and ... yes, let's confess it IT IS COOL. If in the area spending one night at Banksi Hotel is definitively a must-do. Plan couple of hours to visit the in-house museums, it is well spent time
A wonderful little hotel, full of interesting artwork and a fascinating museum with thought provoking exhibits. A five minute walk from the border checkpoint. Also great breakfasts and cocktails. Would recommend the walking tour of the refugee camp and Alaa the tour guide, who's name is a regular feature on The Wall. We stayed in the hotel for three nights before leaving to spend time in Jerusalem. When I got to the next hotel I realised I had left my headphones behind. They were waiting for me when I took the bus back to Bethlehem to collect them.
Remarkably comfy and cosy hostel bunks made the higher price for shared accommodation ok. Also nice lobby area to use with free tea / coffee / fruit. The art work is very clever and at times provocative. You really need to give yourself time in the Museum as well. Very moving.
Fantastic time in Bethlehem. The Walled Off Hotel is an important and must-visit attraction. Highly recommend the museum. Our taxi driver, Alaa, showed us many amazing spots and gave us a powerful experience of the city. He was an incredible guide, very friendly and welcoming, and we already are planning to visit more spots with him.
Unbelievable trip, the hotel is incredible, the art, rooms, social areas, bar, no faults and insanely impressive. Alaa the taxi man associated with the hotel is top notch, more than a taxi man. Best guide, friend and more. We used him multiple times for different tours and connections and learnt a lot.
While it starts out very fun and very Banksy, the exhibitions become very sobering and very informative, It was a fascinating summation of the situation in the Palestinian Territories. It isn't without a specific political agenda, but after 3 weeks on official business in Israel, it was great to hear from the "other side"
I staid in this hotel already twice this year. The first one with my husband and the second one with my 19 yo son. This is a unique and unforgettable experience. You can’t miss it if you want to understand more on the Palestinian current situation. Apart the peculiarity of the hotel - full of Bansky and other artists piece of arts in all the building, you will find a very interesting museum that explains the Palestinian issue since it’s beginnings. What is unmissable is the wall tour with the excellent Marwen (a very committed and informed person) and the tour around Palestine with the taxi driver Alaa, which is much more than a taxi driver … at the end of the day you will feel you have a new friend! Also, all the staff of the Hotel (Ricardo, Sherin and all the other) are extremely friendly, helpful and professional. I fully recommend!!!!!!…
The best hotel in the world ! Learn more about the territory and enjoy your stay around the most beautiful banksy masterpieces… The team will become your family and you will come more than once that’s for sure ! Ps: lots of great excursions such as Dead Sea, monastery, Jericho and more available. If you need a taxi to the airport, they will help as well!
Amazing place - the staff are so incredible ! The best -super helpful and super friendly ! The decor is like a museum ! Rooms brilliantly designed ! Huge rooms ! In front of the wall ! The tours with Mawan and Allah are amazing ! Access to their museum and gallery ! Brilliant stay. The tours they arranged were amazing !Marwan did an amazing walking tour -shared incredible stories was super knowledgeable and brilliant ! I did two tours with the amazing Allah who was more than a taxi driver we went all around Palestine - he too was wonderful at sharing stories, making sure I got what I wanted from the tour and because of the demonstrations the previous day I wasn’t able to see the refugee camp so he took me himself ! I love hiking so he gave me ample opportunities to hike and see all the historical sites ! He was so great…
If, like me, you religiously follow Banksy, then the only pilgrimage on your bucket list must be to The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, right in the middle of Palestine. It is about an hour’s drive from the airport near Tel Aviv and transfers can easily be arranged in advance. The hotel staff are extremely helpful from the outset and very efficient in putting you in touch with an appropriate Travel Company, who is proficient in organising any additional tours you may require. You might think you know what to expect, but from the moment you arrive I can guarantee you will immediately be overwhelmed not only by the close proximity to the illegal Separation Wall, but also by the friendliness of the entire hotel staff and the openness of all the Palestinian people you meet during your stay. Visitors are welcomed with open arms and I was lucky enough to stay in the Banksy Artist Room for a couple of nights; one of only nine extremely well-appointed, spacious rooms with beautiful furnishings, an enormous double-bed, lush carpet and en-suite facility. This room was extra special, though, because centre-stage was the ‘Pillow Fight’ mural, which clearly demonstrates how enormously talented Banksy is, not only in applying his intricate stencils, but also executing each and every detailed brush-stroke for the hundreds upon hundreds of ‘feathers’ that seem to be floating through space – all I can say: He must have the patience of an Angel. Rather than just being a visitor to the hotel, you are immensely proud to be one of the Residents and literally treated like family. In fact, although The Walled Off Hotel is a living, breathing art installation (entirely conceptualized and mostly executed by Banksy himself), it actually feels like home. Apart from the delicious, locally sourced food and drinks being served throughout the day, there are things that will delight and surprise you at each and every turn, whilst at the same time challenge your pre-conceived perception, like for instance Banksy’s graffiti in the Presidential Suite (which I was allowed to photograph just before its next occupation) of a family of leopards, who are chained to comparative luxury – however, when you look closer, it will be apparent to see how distraught, helpless and frustrated they are about the situation they find themselves in, when all they really long for is to be uncaged and allowed to roam freely around their ancestral land. This mirrors perfectly the plight of the Palestinian people, which is ongoing and acute… A visit to the in-house Museum and Art Gallery emphasises the point, as does the twice-daily Walking Tour along the Wall and into the Aida Refugee Camp, which is absolutely fundamental, if you are at all in tune with Banksy. Also amazing to see, of course, are the surviving outside artworks dotted around the periphery of the hotel and further afield; the scale of the ‘Flower Thrower’ in particular is just mind-boggling – but its underlying message equally as compelling today as when it was painted nearly 20 years ago. Finally, you will undoubtedly be sad to leave, but not before you have had a chance to make your ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’, which unsurprisingly proved fatal to my credit rating!…
