This had all of the charm of soviet style hospitality but was , at least, well located. The food choice was poor and the food itself reminiscent of 1950s rationing. On top of that the heat in rooms could not be controlled, the sockets were dangerous and the shower over a cracked bath haphazard.

Good location but the hotel itself needs some upgrading and fixing: old bath rooms fixed up bad. This is an old hotel from soviet times which makes it interesting. Breakfast is ok. In room the heating cannot turned down so you have to open the window which can make it noisy. The standard rooms have a good size, the deluxe rooms are huge. When we checked the bathroom the toilet was still full of sh*t.

Conveniently located in central Ulaanbaatar, this is quite an old hotel with musty smells and peeling beige wallpaper (see picture). Nearly everything in the rooms was a shade of brown. The room was well set up, with tea kettle, robes and so on, and hundreds of television channels, including English-speaking ones. Finding a power outlet to charge devices required crawling around under tables and disconnecting the television. Bottled water is provided, but it's not complimentary. The room's air conditioner was obviously controlled centrally. Setting it to its coolest setting, 17°, resulted in a temperature that fluctuated between 21° in the evenings and 24° in the mornings. It was necessary to keep the bathroom door shut, as it was heated to about 30° — the hot water travels through a set of fins that couldn't be adjusted. This would have been a godsend in winter, not very intelligent in summer. The main room's window could be opened and was screened, but there was a big hole in the screen where savvy mosquitoes could sneak in. I didn't encounter any. Breakfast offerings were quite good. My choice of cereal — muesli — was available. Fresh fruit comprised melon, grapes and orange slices. There were plenty of cheeses, breads, and a variety of hot dishes in bain maries, along with an egg station where eggs and omelettes could be prepared to order. I can't agree with people who gave this place five — perhaps they got a newly renovated room? Then again, we're off to spend a couple of weeks touring and sleeping in gers of various quality, after which this may well seem palatial by comparison.

Stayed here for one night before a trip to the Gobi desert. The hotel is centrally located and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice with a good selection of buffet dishes. There was good AC and the bed was comfortable.

I have stayed here 5 nights during the last month while on touring this wonderful country . The rooms have always been clean and spacious . The bed is super comfortable and the sheets are very soft. The bathroom has been great . The AC has been working well. The breakfast is your standard Mongolian buffet and is sufficient with a good variety of things. The coffee is exceptional. I would recommend it without reservation .

Staff here were all friendly and helpful! You can exchange USD to Mongolian- so that was super convenient. It was a great location to see sights, walk to restaurants etc. It was just so much fun to stay in a hotel with such historic value - a bonus for me!

Chosen just for that and location just off Chinggis Khan Square. Nothing to rave about but still satisfied with my choice. First main hotel in UB, and only from 1961. A little tired facility; sometimes a little disinterested staff; but sometimes we give in a little with our choices. Breakfast buffet alright. Vacuum cleaner never saw my room in 5 days there; but room make up was there daily. Still comfortable and secure and quiet and satisfied from me.

It's the oldest hotel in Ulanbaatar. It's old style. It's a bit run down. But: it's only reflecting the low price, it's clean, the service is good, it's very spacious and it's top centered. Somehow very authentic - if you like it modern, then you rather chose a more modern option. A good opportunity to look into the Russian aera of Mongolia!

The hotel has excellent central location with many restaurants and other facilities in walking distance. The actual hotel is in need of a refurb. We stayed in two different rooms on two visits. In both rooms the beds were comfortable, but air con was poor. The bathrooms were tired and needed some attention. Given its location and price it is fine for one or two nights. For longer stays I would seek another location.
