Beautiful old French Colonial Villa with large, spacious, bedrooms next door to an interesting Temple. Right in the centre of the old part of the city. Nice relaxing verandah with garden to enjoy breakfast. Just loved the decor and friendliness of the two front desk staff - Mr. Lai was very helpful. If you need a private taxi driver for the day or suggestions of where to go and what to see around the city, just ask him. Try the Tango French Restaurant 3 minutes walk up the road - amazing and reasonably priced French food.
Lani’s House is down a little driveway in a beautiful garden setting next to West Haysoke. It was a French colonial residence and it is lovely. My double room (Cinnamon) was big with separate sitting area and large bathroom. There is enough English TV channels, good air conditioning, fridge, desk and storage. There is no safe unfortunately. The breakfast was good, taken out on the patio. The place is very quiet yet close to everything. I could not connect to the Wifi which was annoying as was their insistence that it was my phone (even though I am writing this using the Wifi at the coffee shop around the corner). If you don’t need Wifi or a safe, you will enjoy your stay. It is a bit overpriced for what you get.
I remember visiting this place about 14 years ago when I was writing about Vientiane. I didn't stay here then but I'm glad I had the opportunity to come back and do just that. It's a lovely old Lao house right next to a temple and very conveniently located for the river front and restaurants without being right on a busy road. The building has new and older rooms. We were in an upstairs room in the older part of the house. The rooms have high ceilings, a/c and a fan, and are pretty spacious. The furniture is in keeping with the rest of the property so don't expect something modern, or a bathtub. I think the appeal for most people here is the space to relax, either in the upstairs area or in the large garden and terrace. The breakfast is great and the staff very attentive. A couple of things to watch out for. There is no parking here if you're coming by car, though there is some tacit agreement that guests can use the temple grounds. That said, we were asked to move our car a few times, so don't bank on being able to park in or near the guesthouse. The other is that there are no baby cots if you're travelling with little ones. However, they very generously put a large mattress with bedding and pillows in the room and our daughter slept soundly there.
Firstly this is a hidden gem set back from the main road and overlooks a temple. It's so clean and has a pretty garden with lots of plants, two lit up ponds and terrace area for breakfast which was adequate.
We had the large down stairs room which slept 3 people and was very large (Mango Room) and clean (No hair dryer). Bathroom has a shower only and is a wet room.
Room is basic but perfectly priced and beds were so comfy. Definately better than a larger hotel in the city. Hotel decor is lovely too and is very central for temples, river, bars and restaurants.
Hotel has good security with a night security guy, day time reception and CCTV but no security safe.
Great value for money, in a great location close to bars, restaurants & a beautiful temple literally right next door! Cute little garden to sit & have a simple but delicious breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, bread, jams, eggs & salad. Only a 10min drive too from the airport. Rooms are very spacious & beautiful decorated, extremely clean with comfortable beds! Great little find & would definitely recommend!
Lani, one of Vientiane's classic high-end guest houses has been lovingly revived and is now Lani's House by the Ponds. The breezy colonial house, set in a peaceful tropical garden in the city centre, is a few …Moreminutes' walk from the Mekong Riverbank. Located just off Setthathirat road, lined with temples and old trees, this gem of a hotel is close to many of Vientiane's finest cafés, restaurants and shops. Less
