I've always wanted to see the inside of one of those old Soviet apartment blocks and this proved that opportunity in Bishkek. It is billed as a hostel, but it is more like a hared air bnb. Ahead of time I was messaged with impeccable instructions about how to find the entry and gain access with a passcode. It is easy to find; just follow the instructions. Inside I was met by the son of the owner (he speaks English; his mother does not). I had the pink room with Lenin's photo. It was very cute. The bathroom, kitchen, and toilet are shared. There is no common area per se, but there is a seating area in the kitchen around a table. Everything was just fine and I was happy. The wifi was excelled, there was hot water, and I made coffee in the morning. The location is very good. It is close to a ton of restaurants and shops and on a busy street with lots of transport. I walked everywhere from the hostel, including to Ash Bazaar and all the museums. It had history, some charm, and the price was right. I would stay again.

We paid for breakfast, at present my friend is arguing with an employee over it, we have literature to prove it, not really a hostel, no one present at any one time, only interested in money as soon as you get here, staff are scapegoats, owner not present, go elsewhere if you want proper hostel services. Also had to find locals to help us find the place and phone on our behalf as the person minding the place had little English., no sign to show where it is.

The place is clean and the atmosphere like family. Christina comes in in the morning and makes tea and coffee for everybody and just makes you feel at home. Kudos for Christina!. The building its an old "kruschevka" that transports you back into the Cold War. The location its centric and you have public transportation everywhere. The view of the mountains its spectacular!. Obviously, some rooms are cooler than others, my fav is the one with Lenin's portate.

Stayed with friends in this hostel and have really mixed feelings about it. The location of the hostel is fine. Its close to downtown. Hostel is located in one of big apartment houses and presents itself a regular soviet 3-bedroom apartment with one bathroom for all the bedrooms and common kitchen (tea and coffee are provided). Hostel is clean in general, however I saw a cockroach in the kitchen once.. During our stay the washing machine was not working (sign covered it offering to use washing machine next door). Fridge was also not particularly cold: milk got sour overnight. Beds are not very comfortable, unless you like hard beds. During our stay there was a major water supply disruption in the building. Basically for around 10 hours we were completely out of water. Pretty sure it's just bad luck but still unpleasant. Staff is ok and tries to be helpful, but not proactive. One of the ladies is a little emotional and gets defensive when something goes wrong. Bottom line - next time will try another hostel.

Expect - a soviet style apartment turned into 4 bed dorm (lounge room) and private double (bedroom) with 1 shared shower and toilet. Lift to apartment looks dodgy but worked well Positives - comfortable bed bunks, easy to meet other travellers, very friendly & helpful staff, free clothes washing, central location, air-conditioning, kitchen facilitates, staff easy to contact via phone Negatives - hard to find (entrance from the back of the building lot and best to prearrange as staff may not be on scene), no breakfast included, bunks may break soon if no careful when pulling self up onto top bunk

We enjoyed the atmosphere and felt at home in the USSR hostel. The hostel has two apartments and my favorite room is the Lenin room with a green view and dark at night. The owners are very sympathetic and the atmosphere relaxed.

Very central hostel in a classic Soviet-style apartment. Is a great place for meeting other travelers as is very homey, making you feel at home with some friends. I stayed at the double room with my couple. From the balcony we could see the magestic snow-capped mountains. Asel, the owner, is really nice and speaks very good English.

This place is cozy, which is an absolute exception in Bishkek. The hostel is in fact (like most cases in Kyrgyzstan) and apartment made into a hostel. We staied in April 2015, paying 20$ for a double room (but the owner said normal price would be 30$). Pros: • central (on Chuy Street close to Tzum shopping mall) – ask owner specific directions to find the entrance. The entrance is NOT on Chui, but right behind it. • cozy, small but beautiful apartment, kept with care • very clean • friendly staff, very helpful • rooms are quite big, with nice view (4th floor) • several minibus going there • nice kitchen with possibility of cooking your own food, microwave and washing machine • heating and air conditioning available • good shower, hot water anytime • free internet • common room is very nice, with big lockers • on low season you might have the whole apartment for yourself. Cons: • no private facilities, there is only one small toilet and one small bathroom + shower in the whole apartment, so in high season (the hostel can take up to 8-9 people) you might have to queue for quite some time to shower/go to the toilet • beds are honestly very uncomfortable • breakfast is NOT included • not much privacy, the apartment is rather old and you can hear everything through doors • as most of the accomodations in Bishkek, it is overpriced. 20-30$ for a double room with no toilet and no breakfast in a developing country like Kyrgyzstan (one of the poorest in Central Asia) is simply crazy: there are hostels in European capitals which come cheaper. However it is in the average of other accomodations in the city. Bishkek is in general very expensive. Overall, we would come back again, it is very nice to have found a cozy and clean place, it is not common. Thanks to the owners for a very nice stay!

Very helpful owner that was always up for a cup of tea and some good insight into the country. Helpful in organizing different day trips and went out of her way to make us feel at home. Felt like less like a lonely hostel but someone's home converted into a hostel. Lovely place!
