Tripadvisor gives a Travelers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travelers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
It all started when we fell in love with a hidden gem of French-Khmer architecture from the 1920s next to Wat Botum, Phnom Penh's royal pagoda. Renovation and remodeling were done with respect for the character of a building which had been, as we learnt later on, a private retreat for Queen Consort Sisowath Kossamak, the late King Sihanouk's mother. Opened on 18 August 2006 with 10 rooms, The Pavilion has slowly expanded over the years, offering now 36 accommodations throughout three more period buildings that have been added to the property: "The New House" (which hosts its 4 Private Pool Rooms, with each their plunge pool), once the residence of the chief veterinarian at the Royal Palace; "The New Villa", formerly the private residence of a Cambodian senator , and "The Sun-Pool Villa", our latest addition which used to be the Residence of the Philippines Ambassador. Each one has its own style and atmosphere, with distinctive architectural features such as an elaborate wooden stairway, intricate iron wrought railings, etc. The Pavilion only accepts guests over 16 years old, and visitors from outside cannot join in the rooms.

We had the most wonderful stay at Pavilion. It was five star service and felt incredibly special for our honeymoon. A true oasis in an otherwise busy city. We had a private pool room which was beautiful. The bathroom was a little too small and they should clean the outdoor furniture daily (bird poop) but everything else was just superb. Beautiful artwork and decoration, nice breakfast options, the bar staff were friendly and a beer by that pool each evening was very special indeed. Two pools means there's space for everyone (one is used for swimming more than the other). The staff were friendly, professional and ready to help for bookings or tuk tuks etc. It's central enough with some nice places to eat within an easy 20 minute walk (and less). We'd love to return!

We recently spent 3 nights at the Pavilion. You walk into a beautiful tropical oasis. Very serene and relaxing. Breakfast by the pool was lovely - great choices, beautiful food and the staff were fantastic. 2 for 1 cocktails by the pool we enjoyed every night, great value and very lovely spot to enjoy them lounging poolside. Our complimentary massage was great and the complimentary river cruise was fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a private pool room. We did end up viewing 2 other room types a suite and a studio and I must say these were much more spacious than our pool room. We will definitely return but will not take the pool room next time. Our bathroom was very small with very limited space on the vanity and a tiny shower. The room itself had a beautiful comfortable bed, crisp white sheets and great pillows, but again limited space to unpack and store clothes etc. But we were very impressed with the other rooms we viewed. Our pool was quite cold so we really barely got in it. It didn't get much sun. Our only other disappointment was reception staff, Cambodian people are super friendly, but our greeting on arrival was not overly welcoming and the girl on the desk on checkout was simply stony faced and rude. It seemed an effort for her to be working. Another male staff member came to the desk and I advised that the staff member had been quite rude and it needed to be mentioned to management, his response was "oh we get complaints about her all the time". So I do think reception staff needs some mentoring. We did enjoy our stay, ,will definitely return to a different type of room and do highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is truly an oasis in the middle of a busy city. Walking through the front door, you are greeted by a swimming pool with a bar and outdoor seating (which is nice and quiet).

The rooms are really lovely too. We had room 8, which had a balcony overlooking the main pool. It was spacious, clean and quiet.

The staff are also really friendly and are very helpful (something which came in handy when we were trying to look for a medicine and asked for their help).

The food was also really nice. We had breakfast there each day and also dinner on one occasion. Given one of us is vegetarian and the other vegan, we had no issues with the food at the hotel. We also had dessert on a couple of occasions, which was delicious. In addition, the hotel has an on sight spa and provided us with complimentary 30-minute massages each, but otherwise the massage prices were so reasonable! Highly recommended!

We spent 4 nights at the hotel recently. It’s setting is beautiful, just like the photos! And in a great location, near to palace etc. breakfast by the pool was very pleasant, and the bar serves excellent cocktails. The crowning glory of the hotel is it’s staff, they were all just lovely. But things just weren’t quite right for us. As others have said, the pool is inviting but very few day beds/chairs, so if they are taken there is nowhere to sit (other than the small restaurant, which we did do one afternoon but didn’t feel really comfortable doing so.) Check in was slow .. 2 others couples arrived just before us, and only one person at reception - not a warm welcome. But our biggest disappointment was our room itself. We chose a ‘deluxe’ room (not their cheapest) and it really was very, very basic. A very small room, no wardrobe, kettle had to be boiled on floor due to lack of powerpoints, poor aircon., drainage in shower poor and toilet flush erratic.... and the bed was extremely hard, with no side tables. Maybe we just got a bad room?? If you do decide to stay here, opt for one of the suites!! But then, for that price (and even for what we paid) we think there are better options around!

Dear Roved, Thanks a lot for your review. We have two pools with lounge chairs and daybeds around both, and in the garden. There are some more on the terraces of many of the rooms. The deluxe room is at our lower end indeed, but also amongst the most affordable ones too. For the bed, we have bed toppers that are installed by default and additional ones are available at the Front Desk, should our guests prefer softer bedding. AC and flush should not be bad and we will have an extra check. In case of such issues, best is to notify the Front Desk as we have four full time maintenance people to resolve such issues. For the drain, indeed, we have had a septic tank issue but it has been solved since. I hope you will consider us again for a second try. Cheers, Alexis

After two weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia, Pavilon was the perfect way to finish our trip. The lush gardens and pools are a respite from the energy, noise and dust of the city streets. Every person was helpful and friendly and their commitment to providing a superior experience is obvious. (As my masseuse walked to the reception area, she stopped to pick up a single leaf that had fallen on the path!) A great combination of comfort and our world charm!

The Pavilion is a wonderful oasis in the heart of Phnom Penh. Step off of the busy street and you are in a peaceful garden-like setting with a gently attentive staff. Breakfast in the morning or a leisurely glass of wine in the evening at poolside is the perfect way to balance the hustle and bustle of this fascinating city. We would return in a heartbeat. Next time we would choose a room with its own pool. They looked charming. An English speaking tuk-tuk driver named Ken hangs out in front of the hotel. He also has a car that we used to advantage on one day of touring. We highly recommend Ken. He is first rate.February 2017

The hotel though historic and scenic, is run poorly.

The staff’s in general discourteous, disengaged and curt, and it’s really not a language barrier issue.

They also only allow for stocking water in the rooms in a limited supply (we are 2 ppl and were given one 500 ml bottle each for a day) and they refused to provide for extra water bottles if you place a request.

The bottles are also to be refilled by the guests themselves (at a bar that’s shuts at 10 pm) so too bad, if you’re stuck with an empty bottle after that.

They also charge for coffee at breakfast (that’s a complimentary meal) if it’s anything apart from back coffee. Though the menu clearly specifies coffee and blended tea as complimentary and makes no clarification to that effect.

Again, when the same was pointed out at the reception, we were cutely told to pay.

I won’t recommend going through the hassle this place can cause, there are better properties out there.

Dear Bhoomija, Thanks for your review. We tried to cope during your stay and we failed, everything was wrong from the first minute... Water is indeed given complimentarily in the rooms and there is a free refilling station at the Gym open 24/7. The coffee in the morning is included, except if you order a Latte or an Expresso. But I find it hard not liking the Cambodians. Our people, who make our little place alive - just like in all other hotels around the country - are marvelous! Travelling is about openness towards new people, cultures and experiences. Without this mindset, I agree with you, it is not worth visiting our hotel. Best, Alexis

Our family of four adults stayed four nights. Pavilion Hotel was an oasis in the middle of the chaos of Phnom Penh! We loved both rooms and enjoyed the private pool room we reserved, which was great to relax in after a sweaty day of sightseeing. The location is central and a few dollars on tuktuks will get you anywhere. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and the hotel restaurant delicious! We ate breakfast daily and had a few meals there as it was so good. Can't say enough about this hotel and would gladly return. The staff are EXCELLENT and assisted with our every need.

This hotel, while walking distance from all the action, feels like you're in a secluded country side villa. The restaurant was delicious with reasonable portions - I recommend the egg plant curry.

Both pools were excellent and the abundance of plants surrounding them made it feel more like swimming in a lake than a pool (in a good way). I would pick these pools over an infinity pool any day.

The only suggestion I would have for the hotel is to put some dry grains of rice into the salt shakers to draw out the moister! I had to open up the bottom and crumble the clumpy salt onto my food.

Another central hotel that is just a doorway from the street but inside has 2 pools, lovely old architecture and great ambiance . The rooms were spacious, good AC, open wifi. The restaurant breakfast was included , and was good .
We did have one dinner there, but the hotels location is so central that there are lots of restaurants within 10-15 minutes walk.
The service was excellent , a lovely boutique hotel!

Hello, the hotel is restricted to guests over 16 years old. We have 6 pools, 4 of which are private and I do not feel confident having children running within such unmonitored space. We have the White mansion Hotel nearby which accepts children. We are sure these places would fit your expectations better. Thank you . Nassiba

I am coming to study in siem and have booked this hotel pavilion for two weeks as I am arriving into phnom. I want to see Phnom sights before heading to siem. I have been told I have to pay the £2,000 upon arrival and do a Covid test I. London before I fly within 72 hours, buy forte insurance and book a government hotel for two nights while a secondary Covid test is down. I was under the impression that I was then free on day three to move around and do some sightseeing. But the school have told me that this is not the case. That I am supposed to stay inside my hotel room until day 14 when a third Covid test is done and only then can I leave my chosen hotel room. Is this true? The school are advising that I don’t bother to stay I. Phnom and to make my way directly to siem on day three where I will stay at the school and not be allowed out of the grounds until day 14. But this seems very over the top considering I have to do two Covid tests either side of the flight and stay In A government hotel for the first two nights. The school have made a number of mistakes in the process of my arrival into Cambodia so I am a little distrusting of this suggestion. It also means they make more money because I am paying them for Accomodation in those two weeks instead of a hotel. Could someone please confirm what visitors have to do between days 3-14, and if they have to stay closed in their hotel or not? Thanks in advance

Hello, please kindly note that the check-out time is 12PM. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee you late check-out. In the meantime, you can have food and drinks at the bar, rest on the daybeds around the pool or have a swim. There are changing rooms and showers in the garden, we will be happy to provide you the towels. You can leave your luggage at the reception. Please just make sure you do not leave any valuables inside. Cheers, Nassiba

There are taxis at the airport. Be sure to negotiate the cost beforehand. Cambodia also uses Grab which is like their version of Uber. I much preferred using that app as it gives you the price up front and there are no surprises - you can still pay in cash too. If your hotel does an airport pickup then I would start with this, download the Grab app and use that for getting around once you're there and more confident. My experience all over the world is to never trust taxi drivers, they will always try and charge you more if they think you don't know what a fair price is. Thanks god for these new apps that have levelled the playing field.
