I liked the location of this hotel the most - It is a short walk from many of the sites you would want to see in Hanoi yet located on a street that is very quiet at night. The staff was nice and very accommodating, a theme that seems to be shared throughout Vietnamese hospitality. Their hotel bar had some really great absinthe cocktails, the concierge pointed us in the right direction and the "tour desk", though not affiliated with the hotel was a nice compliment to the brand.
We were a group of 4 staying in three separate rooms. All of our rooms were a bit different which is something I always admire about old buildings that have been refurbished. The only negative thing I would say is that the interior rooms (which we all had) are extremely dark. It was almost as if we were in a windowless room. Other than that, great hotel.

We were not in-house guests, but decided to enjoy our tea break here after a nice stroll near the lake. At first we did a quick survey along our way at different 5-star hotels within walking distance and were hesitant at a wide range of selections. It was the professionalism and attentiveness of Minh, the front staff, that welcomed us back to dine in at Hotel de l’Opera.
The idea and concept of a music box was a distinctive feature. The flavours and details on every piece of cake were remarkable for such a reasonable price. The environment was classy and quiet enough for a lovely tea break.
For it being called “afternoon tea”, I’m glad the service is open at anytime of the day to attract more guests during this difficult Covid time. As a hotelier coming back home with a very high standard in hospitality, I’m truly impressed with what Hotel de l’Opera is offering. We will definitely come back and look forward to brand new ideas.

Extremely comfortable, very clean, centrally located. We had breakfast included which was a nice combination of local and western for people wanting to be less adventurous, but get fuel for the day. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable and got us over our jet lag very quickly. I read a negative review about someone having to call multiple times for milk. That is a ridiculous complaint and if you are asking for cereal and milk in Vietnam, you should not be traveling.

We checked into Room 514. We were told at check-in that it was a nice and quiet room but ended up the complete opposite. This room was opposite the housekeeping’s store room, the noise of trolleys, equipments, loud laughing, loud talking over the walkie-talkie kept us awake from a having a good rest, a siesta. The way we tried avoiding the noise was to make sure that we stayed out during noon till evening.

Adjusting the shower tap was a challenge. A one degree difference meant cold water or extreme hot water. Getting the right water temperature took a stroke luck. The basin was ridiculously small on the vanity top that looked like a standard size like other hotels.

Other than that, the bed was very comfortable. We sank into clouds of comfort during our night’s rest, big pity about the noise in the day. Most staff were also very friendly, and would offer help when we needed.

Personally, I do not recommend this hotel after my 2nd stay here. If you really desire a luxury hotel in this vicinity, pay more (much more, but worth it) for the Sofitel Metropole across the road. Both are under Accor. Alternatively, there are many other great hotels at the old quarters, though they may not be international brands.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel de l'Opera during our visit to Hanoi, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The historic ambiance blended perfectly with modern amenities, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.
The rooms are spacious, meticulously maintained, and the thoughtful attention to detail, such as the quality toiletries and ample storage space, added to the overall convenience.
The hotel's location is simply unbeatable. Situated in the heart of the Old Quarter, we were within walking distance of many popular attractions and vibrant neighborhoods. This prime location made it incredibly convenient to explore the city's historical landmarks, trendy boutiques, and delightful restaurants.
The staff was incredible. From the front desk to the restaurant and housekeeping, the level of hospitality and attentiveness displayed by the hotel's team was unmatched. They were genuinely warm, courteous, and always ready to go the extra mile to ensure we had a pleasant stay.
We also had the chance to dine at the hotel's restaurant, and it was an absolute delight. The culinary experience was a blend of international and local flavors, and each dish was a testament to the chef's expertise. The elegant setting, attentive service, and delicious cuisine made for a truly memorable evening.
In conclusion, Hotel de l'Opera is a gem that offers everything a traveler could hope for - comfortable rooms, a prime location, and an exceptional staff that goes above and beyond to ensure a fantastic stay.

From the moment we arrived until we sadly had to leave we were treated like special guests. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. The location is very good and close to the Opera House and the Lake. We had a pleasant walk around the lake each day.
The room on the fifth floor was large and pleasant although a trifle dark which is the decor as it has dark wall and ceiling but very nice and peaceful. The bathroom is large and has a good shower with choice of rain or hand held.
All areas we found were well maintained and clean.
We dined in the restaurant for dinner, a good menu and we enjoyed our meal. The breakfast was very good and all items we tried were hot, I hate it when some hotels provide lukewarm dishes. There is a large choice every morning and off course you can have the eggs etc. cooked fresh for you.
Go careful on the delicious pastries as they are very moreish.
Swimming pool is inside and a nice sitting area on the verandah where you can enjoy a drink and a pleasant relaxed atmosphere.
On checking out at 12:00 and not being picked up till 14:45 we were offered facilities to have a shower near our pick up time.
Overall a very good experience and highly recommended.

I was in Hanoi for work for 2 weeks in May 2022 & stayed at the M Gallery Hotel de l'Opera. I was in a suite on the 8th floor and it was furnished well & quiet. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. I was working very late nights and the housekeeping/laundry/room service personnel were very accommodating to my needs. I ate in the restaurant & lounge and the food was delicious, exactly what I was looking for. Front desk staff were amazing, Ngoc Anh & Thuc Anh stand out for their helpfulness. The lounge staff were also very friendly, polite and willing to make every visit a wonderful experience. And the location near the Opera House is the best place to stay, so much to see & do in this area. I look forward to my return to Hanoi and this property in the very near future.

PRO
atmospheric Old Quarters; within 5 minutes walk to the Opera, Hoan Kiem lake, food

CON (for me - a corporate traveller)
room too dimly lit, I had to switch on the bathroom mirror many bulbs "changing room" lights to flood light into the bedroom; walls painted in dark colors, bedside lights switches were not within reach (at the floor to be turned by hand!) Table lamps covered dark shades. Kettle has to be plugged in either at the bathroom basin top (just beside the strong pressure water tap) or on the small table beside the bed. Bed is double thick layers high (sleep walkers beware)

EXTERNAL
gets noisy already in the early morning with some kind of shrill morning drill somewhere out there.

BREAKFAST
Moderate spread. Service good. Coffee so-so

Overall maybe good for honeymooners

Dear ChenYongHann, Thank you for your recent stay at Hotel de l'Opera Hanoi and for sharing your valuable feedback with us. While I do regret to learn that your stay appears to have been hindered by external noise disruption as well as by your in-room experience, rest assured that we are taking measures to address them. With regards to the sound disruption during your sojourn, our hotel has been refurbishing all staircase access doors. While we do understand the nature of the work and potential noise derived from these works, do know that we have ensured any disruption was kept to a minimum and with strict rectification works to be done in the later hours of the morning and prior to evening hours. I do, however, apologise for this temporary disruption to your overall experience but rest assured, we will continue to ensure our guest comfort is continuously looked into during this period and which will conclude very soon. Thank you once again for reaching out to us and trust your travels have you well. We do look forward to having the opportunity to welcoming you back in the not so distant future and to ensure your next stay is looked after and improved upon. Kind Regards, Alberto J. Absolutely lovely staff. The rooms are slightly dark but otherwise clean and the bed is comfortable. Everyone at the front desk from Ms. Hong to Mr. Anh are so kind and really made my stay enjoyable. The food is also fresh, I ordered the bun cha after a long day and though not the cheapest place to eat near old quarters it was a large portion for the price.
I want to give an extra thank you to Ms. Hien who did a quick hem of my work pants complimentary with my laundry service so I did not have to use safety pins. I did not have time to get them altered before my work trip and it was very considerate and unexpected! If I am in Hanoi again I will definitely stay again.
