Hanoi is so much to Vietnam. It is the political capital but also the cultural capital. The economy is booming, the visitors keep coming, and yet the city maintains a slow-pacedatmosphere. This is a city that is straddling old world charm and new world modernity, and this is reflected at The Lapis Hotel. Sandwiched in between the French Quarter and the Old Quarter, The Lapis Hotel is ideally located close to local attractions. HoanKiem Lake, the spiritual and geographical heart of the city, is walking distance, along with the bustling trading quarter and many of the city’s best museums. The hotel stands with some of the city’s finest examples of French colonial architecture and centurion trees. Much of the area is accessible by foot, as the hotel is located close to parks, lakes, restaurants and cafes. Business and diplomatic travelers will also revel in the convenience of the location, as many of the city’s office headquarters, banks, embassies and ministries are within easy reach.

On arrival we were awarded an upgrade of our room, which was a nice touch as I was celebrating my 50th birthday. Checking in was quick and the service was first class.
The room itself was beautiful, with a large comfy king size bed, chaise lounge, TV, minibar. The bathroom was extremely spacious with a large shower, and separate bath. Plenty of extras at no cost such as toothbrush, shampoo, toothpaste etc was available to use.
The room and bathroom was spotless, the only gripe was the decor was a little tired in places, but it wasn't an issue for us.
The pool is small, but adequate located on the rooftop overlooking the city. Not many sun loungers or chairs, but with it being low season, it wasn't an issue for us. Maybe in high season, it could be a problem. Around the pool area, there needed a little more maintenance as there were things like a pool light that had come loose and was floating on the pool, or put on side - only to fall back into the water.
The spa area was good, with a steam room and sauna available. If you were to use these, I would advise you put them on prior to going for a swim as they can take a time to heat up.
At breakfast time there was plenty of selection to eat that would support most needs, and it felt nice an relaxed - how breakfast should be.
Location is perfect in the old quarter, a 10 minute stroll the to lake was all it took, and is in walking distance of most attractions. In fact we never used a taxi and visited most places.

My daughter and I stayed one night at the Lapis, in two separate rooms, as we were attending a function nearby. The rooms were very comfortable and the ensuite bathrooms both contained the walk-in showers we requested. this facility does need to be requested when booking as there is a prevalence of baths only. The beds were extremely comfortable as were the pillows. Toiletries were provided but not face cloths. Tea and coffee facilities were provided in the rooms but no milk. The WIFI was good and the rooms were quiet. I had the full breakfast, which was reasonable without being marvellous & there was plenty of space in the room. The weather was bad during our stay so we didn't sample the swimming pool. We would definitely stay at the Lapis again.

We only stayed for 1 night but I wish we stayed for longer. The hotel itself is in a lovely location with plenty of ATMs & cafes and restaurants close by. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the Old Quarter as well which is quite a pleasant walk.

The room was very comfortable and fairly large. The beds were soft, the air conditioning was fab and there was a bath which we made use of during the evening. All amenities were provided for and we were able to use the hotel car to get to the airport the next morning.

Pros: high quality breakfast with good choice on the buffet. Quiet location at night (if you like that). Rooftop pool is very nice.

Cons: expensive for Hanoi. king bed is just two single beds pushed together. the gym is not a gym, just a tiny room with treadmill and small dumbbell weights. Location is taxi ride to anything notable. “City view” was of a water tank and wall of neighbouring building (lol). The nearest local store is 5-10mins walk away - This became an issue for me due to an act of very poor service from the hotel. I wanted to order some drinks at 9.45pm. The hotel bar supposedly shuts at 10pm, but I was told I’d missed last orders. I said all I wanted was a Diet Coke and bottle of water - just add it to my room bill or something surely? It’s not as if the bar is inaccessible. Plus I’d left a deposit of 1million dong when I checked in. And yet, this couldn’t be done apparently, seems lazy service of hotel. So basically I had to go on a 20min walk just to get some drinks at almost 10pm when I’m trying to relax after a long day. Unimpressed.

Fairly centrally located but a very basic hotel which is quite dark and tired looking. Small room but thankfully we were upgraded on night 2 to a suite. Thank you! We had to vacate the room at 11am for check out but, as our next journey was not until 10pm that night, we had a long day to put in in Hanoi. The staff at reception said we could leave our cases with them and then freshen up in the swimming pool area later in the evening. Unfortunately the swimming pool area had no air conditioning and was cramped so we had an uncomfortable time and were just dripping in sweat as we moved on to our next port of call. A small room, air conditioned, would have been welcome as many people leaving on the late train to Sapa encounter the same problem. Breakfast was reasonable and the staff were curteous.

Dear Mr/Ms. heathersherrard, Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at The Lapis Hotel. On behalf of our entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience you experienced during your recent stay with us, particularly regarding the absence of air conditioning on the 11th floor. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we deeply regret that we fell short during your visit. Actually, some facts of the building we cannot change, and the 11th floor is one of them. The design for the public area is always opened, and the area for the locker where the customers have a shower couldn’t set up air conditioning in there; therefore, we set up the fresh air fan system. Right after receiving your comment, rest assured this has been briefed to our manager through constructive daily team briefing. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide the high-quality experience you deserve. Sincerely, Nguyen Phuong Chi (Ms.) General Manager

We stayed at he Lapis Hotel for 4 nights while on a Gate 1 Discovery tour of SE Asia. The hotel room was a bit smaller than other rooms on our tour but completely adequate. The location was good with a convenience store around the corner, two ATMs very close and an easy walk to Hoan Kiem Lake.

The included breakfast, while adequate, was the least bountiful of the 5 hotels we used for the trip. Our farewell dinner was held in the hotel's restaurant and it was very disappointing. We were given a choice of beef or salmon and the beef was inedible. With several nice looking restaurants were nearby I don't recommend taking meals at the hotel.

Amazed by the quality of this hotel .
Traveling alone and being demanding I normally stay at the Hilton or Marriott this one is superior . The inside decoration is a reminiscence if the French colonial style from early 20 th century .
Marble of all type from the walls to the floor ,beautiful chandeliers, sculpted wood panel and marqueterie .
Although the hotel has been completely remodeled with taste , they kept the all original
Decorations . Including each individual rooms
The pool is sparkling clean on top floor including sauna Jacuzzi and steam
Room . Gym with mostly cardio . But what set aside at a higher level that all the Marriot and Hilton of the world ,
It the service I got from Kui who was very informative about visiting Hanoi as well as Han(?) and khien the gentleman who ordered me a scooter and gave me the keys .the staff is so amazing ,patient ,polite and professional .
The buffet is great and wide variety of food. I never write as much on a review but the Lapis Hotel has been an amazing stay .

Excellent location in a relatively quiet section of town. You can still hear traffic noise but it is not overwhelming. The walls are a bit thin so you hear neighbors coughing also. The rooms are nice and the bathrooms well designed. The marble floor in the shower is very nice, whatever the surface treatment is, it is not at all slippery. The staff is exceptionally good, the rooms are cleaned with good speed and results. The front desk is very helpful.

One major downfall is rather poor internet service, it's OK if there are not a lot of users, but many times during peak usage the speed is unusable. The TV offers a lot of channels, but sometimes is not available.

Easy walking distance to the Opera House. Many embassies up the street. There are a lot of ATMs around, but the only one that would work for me was one at the HSBC, about a half a block up the street to the Opera House.

Would be happy to stay here again, but if it was a business trip relying on internet service I might look elsewhere.

I always stay at The Lapis either for business trips or leisure trips. This September, I stayed with my 11 friends pre trip to Cao Bang for a bike tour. Due to the rain, the hotel even provided us their meeting room to store our 12 bikes. Staff were very helpful to support us carrying our bikes. The hotel tried their best to give room keys to us much earlier than check-in time as they knew we took very early flight from Ho Chi Minh City so we were quite sleepy. Breakfast was great and we all were so full to prepare for a day of cycling.
All of my friends really enjoyed their stay @ The Lapis and they told me to stay here again on our next bike trip to Moc Chau.
Thanks a lot The Lapis Team to make our trip amazing and memorable. We will be back sooooon 😻😻.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a recent trip to Vietnam. The room was huge! We were surprised that there was only a roller blind to pull down for privacy in the bathroom rather than a wall. The hotel is within walking distance of many sites although we had a driver to take us to the University of Literature and Ho Chi Minh Square. We only ate in the restaurant one evening because the food was pricey and indifferent. The breakfast selection was ok but again we had more choices at other hotels we stayed in.

The staff are unfailingly polite and helpful but we feel the hotel could 'up its game' with the food.
