The Light Hotel Hanoi is highly regarded by many guests for its immaculate and cozy rooms, although a few note they can be on the noisier, snug side. The rooftop pool and praised breakfast buffet are just a couple of the amenities that contribute to its reputation as a great value stay.
Nestled in the heart of the Old Quarter, the hotel's location makes exploring Hanoi's attractions a breeze. Exceptional service from the staff further enhances the welcoming and modern atmosphere of this well-kept establishment.

Detailed Reviews

Room: The room had no windows (which we knew about) but was well furnished with all the essential, including free water, refilled every day. The walls are thin, so do bring earplugs along because you hear whatever is going on in the corridor.
Staff: The hotel staff was lovely and keen to help, and the airport pick up was smooth with someone waiting for us with our name on a board
Location: perfect location, walking distance from most of the sight seeing stuff, and close to loads of great restaurants
Food: breakfast buffet was lush! Egg station, pho station, a mix of savoury stuff to suit western and eastern palettes alike which changed every day (the only constant was sausage and bacon), good coffee, good area of fruit, bread and pastries. Even homemade yoghurt. A fantastic spread. Only the juices could be better. We didn't eat dinner, but did go for drinks and they have a Hanoi mocktail, a bit like a strawberry mojito which is gorgeous!
Spa: we got a massage at the spa. We didn't necessarily want it together but ended up in the same room. I'd say the massage was average... The two ladies ended up chatting (albeit in low tones) which made it difficult to actually relax. I also didn't feel like I got the massage I chose...at least it didn't start the same. There also didn't seem to be as much care to protect one's modesty, you know when they keep the towel up for you to turnover etc.
Overall, great location, fantastic breakfast, lovely staff. Would definitely consider staying here again (with my earplugs again)

We arrivwd on 21 Aug and stayed for two nights. The building is a typical building for local hotel-tall but narrow comparing with other countries. The receptionist, doorman and lobby manager are all professional and communicate well in English. The room has enough facilites, and multiple options for showering although a bit smaller than hotels in other countries. The breakfast provide a lot of choices and good enough for most people. Reastrant itself is clean, tidy with waiter/waitress/chef provide professional services.

Gotten a chance to remain in The Light Hotel and the spot brilliantly fitted us. Our room was made and clean. It has a noteworthy comfort room that is incredible not in the slightest degree get a kick out of the chance to other motel washrooms. Lodge gateway is better than normal with a few collectibles that exhibit their lifestyle and it is far reaching as well. Every single touch in this lodge is heavenly. Perfect spot to eat up in as well, a critical extent of sustenance to examine, they are, taking everything into account, delectable and made intentionally as indicated by served.
We couldn't imagine anything better than to come back with my different colleagues. To an unprecedented degree not too horrendous spot!

Supposed to be 4 star hotel, we booked room with a window,
The location of the hotel is OK, can walk to old quarter and train street.
Room- the window is blocked by the next building wall and can’t be opened , so it is practically useless.
If you want to have a window, must book a city view.
No outlets near the bed for charging your phone, light controls is not near the bed either.
It’s not a big room, but functional and should be OK for city hotel. Very basic with small functional bathroom.
Breakfast is nice, Pho, eggs, fruits, salad…
Breakfast room can become extremely noisy and packed, try to avoid busy hours.
We were surprised that after checkout after we were in our taxi one the hotel staff actually ran after us to ask the room key (?!?!), when she arrived running it looks like we left without paying or something but… just the room card. Not a good experience!

Decent hotel and good location in old quarter. Breakfast is good. Staff is courteous. Only drawback is room size which is quite small. Pictures on Agoda are photoshopped to show the rooms bigger. Also description on Agoda says that the COZY PREMIUM category has bathtub in it which is not true.

Wow, what a lovely hotel!
The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, they were so attentive from start to finish, and helped us book our onward journey to Sapa. Once we checked out we were able to leave our bags, and come back and use the pool and showers. We even got a free coffee gift at the end which was a lovely touch.
Rooms were so comfortable and modern, super comfy beds and good showers, and air conditioning which was great to come back to after a day in the heat.
Breakfast was a nice buffet with Asian and more European options, from stir fries and soup to baguettes and croissants, and fresh omelettes. As we are vegetarian we didn’t eat in the restaurant at night as the only option was pizza, but others we met said it was great and you can sit on the top floor rood terrace to eat and drink (and for happy hour!)
The roof terrace was dreamy, a great sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. A lovely cool pool which was small but never busy, and a cosy seating area overlooking the Old Quarter streets and beyond.
There were renovations happening at the time so during the day there was maintenance work happening, but nothing too bothersome.
The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to everything we wanted to do in Hanoi - train street, the lake, temple, water puppet theatre, Hanoi social club (live music on a Tuesday and very close), banh mih 25, prison museum, and just generally exploring the old quarter and lake area. A crazy, bustling city, with treacherous road crossings, and the Light Hotel was a welcome refuge when we needed a break from it all! Would absolutely return if ever back in Hanoi.

My daughter and I stayed at The Light Hotel and it was one of our best hotel experiences in Vietnam. We were particularly impressed with the fact that all the staff were so welcoming and extremely helpful. They were ready to help night and day whatever the situation. For the affordable price the breakfast was good with a variety of hot and cold food. For the price the rooms were clean and comfortable. Situated in a good spot in the old town. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The staff were very friendly, helpful with all of our requests regarding laundry service, nearest pharmacy etc and future travel destinations. The room was clean, the shower was also nice but there was limited hot water. The rooftop pool was a bonus. Breakfast was also to a very good standard.

A perfect location, outstanding service, great breakfast, and good rooms. Made my trip to Hanoi unforgettable.
A special thanks to Jenny who was like my personal assistant during my trip. Anything I needed, she was there for it.
The only (tiny) improvement I might wish for is a bit nicer detailing in the bathrooms. They are very clean, but could use a bit of recaulking/sealing around the sinks and showers.
Rooms fully stocked with robe, toiletries, fridge, and mini bar, safe, luggage rack, reading lamp, kettle, etc. Maybe supply new slippers vs used? But I noticed this everywhere in Vietnam. U.S. travelers are finicky about our foot hygiene and will not wear used slippers.

As the hotel was most accommodating I am sure they would be able to service your requirements, I would suggest contacting the hotel directly to confirm whether they can commit to such an event.
Hi Jim, first of all, excellent choice in hotel, it is fantastic. To answer your question regarding booking tours from the hotel, the answer is yes. I have read responses to your question stating that is more expensive than a travel agent, but I disagree. We booked our Halong Bay trip through them and the service was brilliant and we saved more than 50% booking through the hotel.
It comes down to what tour you would like to do, and there are many places around the hotel area locally that can assist you. Just one word of advise is don’t book tours through the internet just wait until you get there. This way you will save heaps of money. Good luck and have fun
Not Halal as a large part of Vietnamese dining is pork and there is only 1 dining hall.
Yes. Cheap shuttle bus 40,000 Dong goes regularly from the airport to Vietnam Airlines Office SW of the lake. Excellent service. Don't take any other.
Dear Elisa P,
Thank you very much for your interest in our hotel. We do provide full-packed Halong bay tour as you mentioned. We could help you book that online in advance or when you check in at our hotel
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
