The Sheraton Hotel in Taipei is a good hotel. I have stayed here many times over a lot of years.
In terms of location, this hotel is ideally located for you to walk pretty much anywhere in central Taipei. This is really a good thing...More
OK, perhaps a little above average and maybe on par with the brand. Room was nice, and an upgrade given. Nice comfortable beds, which I am used to at Sheraton. Good space to move about in the room and bathroom and a nice working area,...More

2.The smell is horrible - might be due to the air conditioning.
3.The bed is quite humid.
4.The view is horrible.
5.The room is tiny.

I can imagine that the Hotel offers Tours or at least has a tour partner. Most of those high ranked hotels have arrangements with tour companies. Other than that the Concierge Service in 4 & 5 star hotels are very well informed and very willing to help you. I remember that the staff in the hotel was very detailed in explaining me things about the city. In regards to your Metro-question I can tell you that it is very simple to get around in Taipei. The metro is cheap and if you have a map with you it is super simple. Even by bicycle it is great to explore the city. There is a electronic bicycle rental right across / opposite of the hotel. You just provide your credit card details and chose a bike... The rates are the following (youbike taipei).
$10NT per 30min within the first 4 hours.
$20NT per 30min between 4 to 8 hours.
$40NT per 30min exceeding 8 hours.
You can rent the bike at any station and return it to any other station within the city. I have used those bikes twice and it was loads of fun. I returned it at the end of the city and took the metro back.
Hope I could help you a bit
