This is a good hotel with everything you expect from a large Sheraton. There are many F&B outlets and the rooms are spacious. However, I don't think this hotel has seen any renovations in over 20 years. Its not bad but just a little dated....More

Good location and many amenities and eateries in house.
Rather old and tired property though can do with an update.
This is very evident once in the room. Comfortable enough and service good. Clean and tidy.

I can imagine that the Hotel offers Tours or at least has a tour partner. Most of those high ranked hotels have arrangements with tour companies. Other than that the Concierge Service in 4 & 5 star hotels are very well informed and very willing to help you. I remember that the staff in the hotel was very detailed in explaining me things about the city. In regards to your Metro-question I can tell you that it is very simple to get around in Taipei. The metro is cheap and if you have a map with you it is super simple. Even by bicycle it is great to explore the city. There is a electronic bicycle rental right across / opposite of the hotel. You just provide your credit card details and chose a bike... The rates are the following (youbike taipei).
$10NT per 30min within the first 4 hours.
$20NT per 30min between 4 to 8 hours.
$40NT per 30min exceeding 8 hours.
You can rent the bike at any station and return it to any other station within the city. I have used those bikes twice and it was loads of fun. I returned it at the end of the city and took the metro back.
Hope I could help you a bit
