We booked a one week stay at the Dalai la hotel after reading all the amazing reviews and boy it did NOT disappoint to say the least! Right from our arrival to departure the hotel made sure all our needs were met. The staff pays meticulous attention to detail and the owners are just simply remarkable!!
We were there just before all the Covid madness started but the hotel left no stones unturned caring for the safety of guests and taking extra precautions where necessary. Umpteen points for that.
Rooms feature beautifully carved and painted furnitures and groomed to the Tee.
Location is prime and the restaurant serves an extensive range of food well curated to suit different taste buds, all to enjoy in the stunning courtyard while you listen to some live music performances.
Needless to say we can’t wait to return and experience the whole soirée all over again.

I have been coming to Nepal for three years, five trips in total. There is no doubt when it comes to accommodation where I plan to stay. I always book my stay at the Dalai-La because the rooms are beautiful and clean, the common space/restaurant is so beautiful that it soothes your soul, the food is delicious and they have good red wine which is almost impossible to find. The location is perfect for any first-timer and for those who continue to come back to Nepal because Thamel has so much to offer. The staff are happy and are so helpful. Prem and Juni (the owners) also support an organization in the country that helps empower children and women in Nepal. They not only are great business owners but they are philanthropists and give back to the community. Prem is also a part of the tourism campaign to increase travel in Nepal in 2020 and goes above and beyond to enhance Nepal and tourism for everyone. That community engagement is so rare to see and makes you feel even better supporting this family business. Highly recommend!

Namaste Ashley, We are sorry to hear that you had to cut your trip short in Nepal due to the Pandemic. We agree that family and safety first. We hope you have reached home safe and now with your family and that they are all safe and healthy given the global pandemic due to COVID-19. We have been following the news that USA has become the new epi center of the virus with over 125k cases. Please take care of yourself and stay safe. It is always a pleasure to host you and Blinknow directors and volunteers. We are grateful to your organization and sponsors for taking care of so many children here in Nepal and we hope you will continue to do so. Thank you for taking the time out to write us a review. Glad to know that your stay was good as usual and that we could assist you and your team with the last minute changes. Your home in Kathmandu will always be here when things are better. We look forward to your next visit. In the mean time, stay positive, exercise, eat healthy and stay safe. Namaste,

We had a wonderful time towards the end of our stay in Nepal at the Dalai-la Hotel for a few nights in a huge 2 story Loft Unit (Mt Everest) which we highly recommend! The loft was beautifully decorated and full of natural lighting. The Heritage style hotel has all the look and feel of the old-style buildings in Kathmandu but with wonderful modern amenities…like ample hot water for bath and/or showers after a long city trek. Dalai is impeccable clean, complemented with a scrumptious, fresh, and diverse breakfast choices in the mornings. The staff were also incredibly attentive to every need.

The hotel is in a central location in Thamel surrounded by a safe and peaceful pedestrian mall (away from the bombarding motorcycles). At the same time, it is in the middle of convenient restaurants, shopping, coffee shop, and general tourist scene in Kathmandu. Also note, the Dalai has wonderful acquired contemporary art that the owner has carefully selected and adorned the hotel in order to support local and now international artists, which brings a graceful ambiance to the hallways and beautiful courtyard. We would definitely stay here again.

Dalai-La is truly unique place to stay in Kathmandu. In the heart of Thamel, just a few minute walk from the main street It is authentic, lively, cozy, always clean and up to the highest standards. You can feel the owner's personal touch in every small detail. Food & drinks menu is great. The staff is really friendly, always helpful and welcoming. Own courtyard and art gallery make it even more special and vibrant. I've been staying in Dalai-La multiple times over the past five years and every stay is a an absolutely pleasant memory.
My favorite rooms are those on the 6th floor - with amazing views over the city, beautiful sunsets and just solitude in the midst of the busy Kathmandu.

First got to Nepal checked into a hotel that I had booked before the trip but was not satisfactory walked around the next day and found this hotel who were more than willing to let us see the room before choosing. Was there for 13 days the staff was extremely pleasant very helpful rooms are clean with all amenities, great morning breakfast with many choices ,was excellent with a fantastic staff, great atmosphere and beautiful artwork in the courtyard. Very quiet at night, even though it's located right in the heart of a very trendy area. I would highly highly recommend this location for convenience and many things around it just to walk each and every day and also close to downtown areasMore

The Dalai La Boutique hotel is an absolute Gem, We stayed at this hotel at the beginning and end of our motorcycle adventure across Nepal and Tibet. The staff are delightful and so accommodating, The hotel is beautifully decorated and offers a relaxing calm atmosphere centred around a delightful courtyard, The idea of a tranquil location in Thamel Kathmandu seams a crazy notion as the city itself is totally wired and mad, But yet this hotel offers just that. The food is of exceptional quality and the cold Ghorka beer is just divine . If ever I return to Kathmandu this is the first place I would book. I can only pass a huge thank you to all the members of staff for making our stay truly memorable.

I believe this is the best hotel in Kathmandu! I stayed there for almost two weeks in March, and everyone at the hotel made me feel at home. The owner also went out of his way to connect with me and the others in my party, making sure everything was to our satisfaction. The food was always delicious and there are many options with a fusion of local and Western cuisine. The rooms were very comfortable and modern, and they provide great views to the decorated courtyard below. The spa was very nice and I got a massage there after my long flight to Nepal. The owner collects art, and you can see his amazing collection throughout the hotel. And what's also cool is that he has an art gallery built right into the hotel. This is my number one recommendation for Nepal!

Walking into this Boutique hotel from the busy streets immediately transports one from the hustle to the tranquility. Even with such close proximity to the shopping streets of Kathmandu, which is an extreme plus point, the hotel provides a soothing and tranquil setting which relaxes the body and mind. I love how beautifully this hotel is designed and decorated, unlike the cold uninviting hotels of others.
Another praise I must throw Dalai-la's way is the staffing, from the concierge to the restaurant staffs, they are all super friendly and will go out of their way to make every requests of mine possible.
Kathmandu will seem very different if it is not for Dalai-la. Good job guys

Tip. This hotel is also near the 52nd best club in the world (Lord of Drinks) a big and beautifully managed club. a must go venue.

Bangkok is noisy & I love it. Thamel is fantastic & the only place to stay in Kathmandu if you want to enjoy the essence of the city. Busy with some noise during the day, but quiet at night. Dalia La is set back from the street & is delightful. I was there with a group of 17 from USA (less noisy than Bangkok) & NOT ONE person complained about the noise.

Hi - Yes, they are good for sleeping. They do have live music in the courtyard sometimes but that's usually concluded by 10 pm. There are also air conditioning / heating units in each room, but I never needed to turn the fan on due to outside noise.
