Detailed Reviews
Myself and my family visited in September and as soon as we arrived it was an Imperial-era villa with a beautiful garden. Inside it’s like a museum and shows a lot of the history of Addis Ababa and Ethiopia as well as well as traditional furniture and arts and craft.
The staff are really nice and helpful and Eyerus the owner is very knowledgeable. The food is lovely, the breakfast is certainly worth getting up in the morning.
In the daytime the sun can be really fierce and it can feel warm because of it but at night because of the altitude the temperature can plummet as soon as the sun starts to set so it’s lovely to relax in front of a log fire. In addition you can hear the whoops of the hyenas at night as they travel from the hills into the city.
Our bed was really comfortable and cosy and the shower was nice and warm. There was enough space for my kids to run around and they enjoyed it immensely.
Finally, would I come again? Yes I certainly would.

We stayed at Abbabs Villa for 10 days while working with the Mother Teresa Nuns. It was a wonderful peaceful place to return to after a busy day. Charming surroundings with lots of history,a very helpful and interesting owner. We ate there most nights and found the good vegetarian fare quite adequate. It is easy to get around Addis from there. We used the local taxi bus.

Our family of 3 stayed at Abbaba's Villa for 10 days and couldn't have been happier. There is so much more here than you would find at any hotel. Eyo is warm and engaging and we felt so loved and cared for. The rooms are lovely and our bed was so comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and ample. You can have lunch or dinner prepared with short notice. All the food was healthy and wonderful. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing - a lovely home with so much history and beautiful grounds including a vegetable garden. The neighborhood is interesting. If you need a car and driver ask for Ermias - his English is good and he can take you wherever you need to go for a reasonable fee. Staying at Abbaba's Villa was a highlight of our trip and we would definitely stay here again.

A friend of mine and I had a good stay with Eyejerusalem for a few nights. She was a very nice and charming and welcoming host and even sent a taxi driver to meet us at the airport. The breakfasts were fine. The house itself is a bit removed from the center, but that's good because the air is cleaner up there and it's less frenetic. The house is very charming, with a lot of family history, like a museum. The reason I didn't give it a higher rating was because the rooms aren't great. Dark. Poor lighting. My shower didn't work well, spraying all over and weak spray. The bed and bedding not too comfortable. Things are falling apart a bit. There were tiny cockroaches in my room, one even in my bed. If you don't mind a bit of rustic, though, it's a perfectly pleasant place to stay.

We spent two weeks in the guesthouse and felt immediately at home when we arrived. The old villa is set in a big compound with a lush green garden in the back facing the verandah. The guesthouse is run by a very warm-hearted and friendly lady who returned to Addis Ababa after having spent more than 20 years in the USA. She is supported by an equally lovable cook who served us delicious meals for dinner.
They offer five rooms of different size and standard, all with ensuite bathrooms. I can especially recommend the generously sized and nicely furnished family room, the other rooms are smaller and simpler but pleasant enough. The entrance hall is impressive both because of its size and its antique Ethiopean furniture.

We spent nearly a week with Eyo at Abbaba's Villa high in the hills above Addis. It is a wonderful retreat, a generations-old family home set in a large wooded compound away from the crowded, noisy and smoggy center-city. Eyo, our warm and gracious host, returned from the US to take over her illustrious grandfather's home, turning it into a unique residence for travelers. We were a group of seven close friends, and pretty much had the place to ourselves. One night, Eyo organized and hosted a garden party for us with a wide range of local friends...artists, NGO types, teachers, business people, etc. We were served breakfast daily in the lovely garden. Dinner is available on request...simple and delicious Ethiopian or western fare. There is an honor bar for drinks. Showers are hot. The large home / lodge is decorated with amazing antiques and heirloom furniture and features a fireplace for cold nights. There are pictures and mementos of her illustrious grandfather who fought the Italians in 1940. Because it is located well away from the City Center, you will want to arrange a car and driver, or taxi service, to get you around to the various sites. Eyo will be happy to arrange that for you if needed, as well as airport pickup. Compared to the sterile modern hotels in the city center, Abbaba's Villa is the right choice if you want warmth, cool air, character, and the personal touch of a gracious host like Eyo.

Founded from a vision to serve hospitality, warmth, wholesome food, and a unique experience, Abbaba's Villa is in a green area in the Entoto Hills, at the outskirsts of Addis Ababa.
We have chosen Abbaba's Villa to run our retreats, and enjoy the ambiance, wholesome food of Ethiopian delicacies with a twist, and super helpful staff. The Guest House is dedicated to promoting wellness, rejuvenation, and provides the space and services to experience them.
Abbaba's villa is an oasis of peace. You may come across religious holidays, hearing religious ceremonies from the loudspeakers in the neighborhoods, but apart from that is is very very peaceful.
Make sure you come with an extra layer of clothes, because it can be cool.
There are special Sunday brunches, and you can come for a gorgeous meal with your whole family - the children can spend the time outdoors playing and exploring the green grounds!
Not to be missed!

My tour company, Stunning Ethiopian Tours, arranged a visit and dinner here. Its conveniently located in Addis, Ms. Gedlu is a superb hostess. The house and its history is interesting. Dinner was delicious and the conversation fascinating. A hi-lite of my 21 day Ethiopian tour. Although I was not staying at the guest house, all the guest rooms looked large and comfortable. The home itself is very large. Spotlessly clean.

I stayed here for 4 nights in total at the beginning and end of my trip. I'm sure there is nowhere quite like this in Addis: beautiful, atmospheric old villa full of Ethiopian artefacts and a lovely terrace and garden. It reminded me of being in a Parisian apartment belonging to an art collector. I ate there every evening and found the food to be delicious and the portions were enormous. You can help yourself to drinks from an honesty bar system.
The owner was not there during my stay and there was some confusion a about the bill as I had been quoted 65 dollars for one person and then the staff wanted to charge me 75 dollars. I think this price is a little high for the location and that it should include a light tidying of your room every day eg emptying the bin in the bathroom. The hotel is out of the main centre but it is very easy to get a minibus to Arat Kilo for about 4 birr. The road into town is under construction and so I found it difficult to persuade any taxi driver to take me back to the hotel. As I was on my own, I did not want to be going around Addis on the bus in the dark and so I chose to eat at the hotel every night which wasn't a problem for a short stay. The owner did give me a number for the house taxi when I sent her an e mail and was always quick to respond.
The staff are very helpful eg Tesfaye went and bought me a mobile SIM card and set it all up for me as well as walking me to the minibus stop when I went out for the first time. I felt very secure as a female lone traveller.
Overall a lovely hotel and something quite special for Addis. It's very nice just to sit and relax in the garden if you are tired at the end of your trip. I would definitely stay there again. However it is a bit out of the centre so if you have lots to do in town or want to go out at night all the time then you may be better off somewhere else.

If you are looking for a place in Addis where you immediately feel like home then Abbaba´s villa is the place to stay. The owner Eyerusalem is an affectionate open-minded woman who makes you feel welcome at once. She has decorated the house diligently with old furniture and some newly bought antiques that give you a good impression of Ethiopian handicraft. It is also nice to sit outside on the patio and have breakfast. Eyerusalem has a very good cook, Worke, dinner (mostly vegetarian) was always great! There are also six dogs and one horse on the big compound. The fact that we quite often didn´t have power or water during our 2 week-stay was made up for by Eyerusalem and her staff more than enough.
