Dann Sutton was very accommodating, and all staff were very friendly. They had lemonade and cookies for us when we arrived, along with a nice welcome bag with info about Ames from the Chamber of Commerce I believe. He was organized and ready for us when we arrived, having all keys identified. It was great.
Newly painted rooms and floors, some of the showers needed some attention, but it was worth it for the price.

I was very pleased with this motel. The manager was very accommodating to find the best room for my dog and I. There is adequate area to walk the dog around the property and has sidewalks. The room was very comfortable. Very clean, and plenty of space. With a microwave, refrigerator, flat screen tv, a coffee maker, a sitting area, desk and a large bathroom, it met all of my needs plus. It was beautifully decorated. Very good restaurants are nearby within a few miles. One within walking distance that was excellent! It felt very safe and secure. The hot breakfast was very good and had a nice variety. I eat gluten free and there were plenty of options to make me happy such as sausage, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit. I would happily stay here again.

The place is immaculate comfortable and in a great location. Greg at the front desk is a gem. He was knowledgeable about the area and very helpful. Good quality people were observers not sketchy characters as you may sometimes see at lower priced hotels. Amazing place and a credit to the Red Roof chain.

Everything about this hotel is dirty and run down. The exterior is crumbling. The rooms are dirty, peeling paint, mold above the bath/shower, bugs, bad pillows, squeaky bed, on and on. I'm not a fussy person but this place is a dump. We only stayed because we could not get a room anywhere else. The only bright spot was that the staff person at the front desk was very nice and they did have bananas and coffee/tea in the morning. We will definitely stay elsewhere next time we are in Ames.

My family and I stayed 3 nights for my mom's funeral and there were problems from the moment we checked in. They made errors in our reservation, causing my husband to have to go to the desk four times to straighten it out. Our room was filthy and worn down. My sheets had stains on them, the toilet seat had dark hairs all over it, there were cobwebs in the shower with bugs, a large crack in the shower wall and the shower curtain rod was falling off the wall preventing the shower curtain from closing, resulting in a lot of water spilling on the floor while we showered. The room was non-smoking, but reeked of cigarette smoke. The blow dryer was broken and the ironing board pad would not stay on the board because the ties were broken. When we discussed our concerns with the owner, Sam, he was rude, argumentative, and told us he could cancel or last night's reservation and suggested we go to another hotel. My aunt and sister also stayed there and had the same problems. My sister switched rooms 4 times to find a room that was clean and didn't reek of smoke. The owner also entered her room, while she was in it, without waiting for a response after a quick knock, to get a blanket from her room. She told him she could have been getting dressed when he did that but his only response was that she didn't have a "Do not disturb" sign on her door. My aunt ran out of toilet paper and had no way of reaching anyone to get some. I had to take toilet paper from my room to give her. It was obvious the owner of this property does not care about his hotel or the guests who stay there. There are multiple hotels in this area. I would recommend anywhere but here.

My stay here was really disappointing. Luckily I was only there for a short night, but due to the cleanliness issues, lack of privacy, and smoke smell, I would not stay here again nor recommend it.
My hotel room was in really poor shape. The walls were peeling in several spots, the shower looked grimy, the door lock latch had been removed, the bedding had a smokey scent, there was no temp control in the room so it was way colder than I’m comfortable with, and the room was not the least bit soundproof (could hear everything in the hall and outside). It was overall unpleasant and did not feel private.
The hotel’s location is great, but with so many other hotels in the same area, I’d choose a different hotel in the future.

Several issues with stay. They have older housekeepers (this is what front desk worker said to me). This wasn't the biggest issue the biggest problem was no one wearing masks. Items in room not cleaned (hence above statement). I travel a lot and used my points at Hampton and Holiday Inn Express for family and I picked the less expensive for me to stay at. Well you get what you pay for. Couldn't believe the difference between Hampton and RedRoof. Red Roof should check in at Hampton to see what should be done..

Would not stay again. Unclear how some other reviews were positive.
Cleanliness was awful- one bed sheet had hair on sheets, bed skirt dirty, thick dust on headboard top, hard floor had visible hair and dirt, vanity shelves towels were had either dust/dirty along sides. Wiped high touch surfaces down and wipe was clearly soiled. Pool would not use as looked like stuff was in it.
Comfort was awful- heater loud/rattled, mattresses uncomfortable, shower squealed, door squeaked, toilet wasn't flushing.
Negative aesthetics and other observations of broken/ripped room items, patched spots, did not see sanitizers available be breakfast, etc. are abundant.
Appeared to have some updates in lobby, bed covers, counter of vanity, hard flooring, but these appear to be more "coverups" for everything else in disarray.

The number 1 priority for a hotel is cleanliness. This place missed the mark. The vent in the bathroom was thick with dust and cobwebs. There were stains on the wall near the shower. The shower curtain did not close on either side. Breakfast was minimal and awful. I think I'm being generous with an "average" rating.

This place was so filthy that I couldn't even stay. It was one of the worst smells I've ever smelled, and everything was wet. Water was coming up from the floor. I booked for 2 nights for work but didn't even stay one and the hotel refused even a partial refund.
