BE AWARE of double credit card charges : watch your credit card bill. I was charged double on my credit card for the two rooms I booked on site. First charge at check in was without the tax. The second credit card charge was a much much higher charge, then two days later on my credit card bill had two more charges and different room rate. I called the hotel and was given a weird explanation about holding charges until credit card cleared.
Within hours of my phone call to this hotel the first charges suddenly disappeared off my bill =removed. Its obvious the front desk personnel has the power to remove the extra room charges themselves. Their initial weird explanation of double charges is false.
Double charges from front desk personnel, & when I questioned the double charges within hours those charges were removed from my credit card by the front desk personnel. It something smells fishy it is fishy. Be aware of double charges.

Response from Cathy Anderson, Sales at Quality Inn & Suites Ames Conference Center near ISU Campus
Responded Apr 29, 2021
"Dear Sir/ Madame- After thorough research of this review, we are concluding that this review is a suspect. We consulted with the front desk and management staff, who stated that they have never come across this kind of issue, which this guest is implying. We check-in and check-out so many guests on a daily basis, and we have never received any complaints in regards to room charges, never mind overcharging them !! We kindly request you to remove this review! Yours Sincerely Cathy Anderson Sales Manager"

Good location for me. Right off I-35 on north part of Ames. Visited many times over past couple years. Clean.

Breakfast is ok.......muffins, cereal. Sometimes eggs/sausage.

Kinda high priced is one of drawbacks. Last visit had noisy neighbors, but first time for that.

They leave the "initialing" on the form for the use of a safe and charge you for that if you don't pay attention to what the initials are. Don't see the need for that. Could remove that w/ no issue in my opinion.

There are positives to the Quality Inn and Suites in Ames: friendly staff, excellent location, comfortable beds, good breakfast.

A few mis-steps stand in the way of a top review:

We were directed to the northwest entrance to access our room. It is (according to the sign) also the parking area for Platinum, etc. customers. That entrance is a mess. Dirty, broken tiles and a security lock that is inoperative. Anyone can simply walk in the remote entrance. Mainly, it’s just a very bad first impression.

Our room was a bit run-down, but ok, except….it smelled like either cat or dog pee. We bought a room deodorizer and it was ok to stay. Please clean your carpets or designate some rooms as pet free.

We didn’t see any bugs, but the very first person we saw at the hotel was a man spraying for insects. Maybe have him come way after hours?? We almost turned around and didn’t check in.

The pool area has so much potential (nice place for breakfast), but the lighting is low quality and the whole area is just tired. Show a little pride in its possibilities.

So, pay attention to details, first impressions and simple upkeep and you’ll have a fine hotel.

Such a wonderful time there at the Iowa State Button Society show. Comfy rooms and very nice convention area. Very accessible. Only thought is to provide a bench out front for early coffee drinkers. Wonderful breakfast.

Appreciate Rochelle who knows how to get things accomplished with a great smile on her face. What a treasure.

Very helpful check-in staff. There was an issue with the first room that been assigned to us and she cheerfully helped us find just the right room. We appreciated the care and and personal attention. I wanted a cup of tea before going to bed and the gal opened up the breakfast are for me to get hot clean water and a cup as well.
The courtyard/pool/ breakfast area was very quaint and attractive place, a nice atmosphere to sit in and feel like you were outside at a park without being exposed to the elements. We did not eat the breakfast provided as we have special dietary needs - but the serving area was very clean and spacious containing the normal fare of hotel breakfast items. The rooms were clean comfortable and everything was in working order. Our stay was the beginning of Dec and cost for a Sat night was less than $100. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

The hotel was in very poor shape. Our bathroom smelled very bad room 303. We kept the door closed with the fan on it smelled like pee. It was unbearable. Also today 2/19/23 the woman closing the breakfast was so rude. Annoyed at a child for getting something while she was closing stating “well if you’re going to do it just do it because I’m trying to close this down” (referring to making a waffle) which she didn’t need to make a waffle she was just trying to get some more syrup. She didn’t apologize after the child’s father retrieved the syrup. We were with a large group staying in the hotel. She was also very rude to me when I checked out seemed extremely annoyed and bothered by even being at work didn’t even stand up and remained on her phone. The rooms are dated, burned carpet, stained sheets, missing smoke detector in room 304. The recliners are about 30 years old and hold odor terribly. Ceiling burned in bathroom a/c/heating unit yellowed from age also filled with dirt (maybe try a shop vac not even sure how dirt got in it?) which made the air coming out smell. There was a wet towel outside on the sidewalk for 3 days. All of my clothes smelled like room when we got home we had to wash clothes that were clean. It was just a mess. Will never return. I wish I would have taken pictures because it was so bad. I was trying to enjoy time with family.

We had a great experience here. The room was really clean and comfortable. There were enough plug ins for our devices and the shower was hot. We booked last minute so we were lucky to get this room, but it was so worth the price! The great breakfast in the morning was absolutely wonderful before we headed out to our day. I wish all stays were as good as this one!

Pool looked fun, poolside rooms werent very sound proof (even those without windows), but were acceptable for anyone who wasnt a light sleeper. Room was very clean, bed soft, with excess amount of fluffy pillows. Gas Station adjacent, quick to the highway. Felt pretty safe there, front desk people really really friendly.

If there was one think I could ask for it would be the restaurant side of the hotels outside lights to be on. I understand the restaurant was closed at the time but Id happily pay $5 more a reservation to keep those parking lot lights on.

We had a king suite. Wish our bath at home was this nice. Differing from most hotel bathrooms it was a large room with door & the walk-in shower was huge. Price was reasonable & the breakfast was the best I've had since this COVID nonsense came our way.

Overall would have booked somewhere else. Staff was friendly at the desk. My keys didn't originally work in my room, they fixed it immediately. The bathroom in my room had water damage on the ceiling and overall the shower did not look like it had been cleaned in a while. Water pressure was non existent.

Breakfast started at 6am, I got breakfast at 7am- it seemed stale and not hot. Was an okay breakfast, but expectations were higher after reading all the reviews when I did book.

Would recommend looking elsewhere and paying the little extra to stay somewhere nicer.
