Hotel's Favorite
My family and I rented multiple rooms for graduation weekend. This was our very first time staying at this hotel and it was a truly wonderful experience. When we walked in the hotel the first thing that we noticed was the beautiful trees and decorations for the holidays. Then we noticed that the hotel had banners and decorations to honor the Iowa State graduates that weekend - how extraordinarily thoughtful.
The GM, Tomas, greeted our group and other guests that were arriving. The staff member that checked us in was there all weekend. Brady was so kind and helpful throughout our stay that it was a pleasure arriving back each day. There is a cute little bar in the hotel & the bartenders Mason and Megan were really nice to chat with. They even made us some wonderful seasonal drinks. And Megan is also the chef and her food is truly exquisite and that alone was worth the stay here!
I must fess up that I’m a bit of a germophobe and my husband and I travel for work quite a bit so I always bring antibacterial wipes with me to clean the room before I touch anything. I cleaned every surface in my room, including the bathroom, and my wipes were completely spotless without even any dust on them. I have NEVER stayed in a cleaner hotel room!!
I know this was a bit lengthy, but my family had such a wonderful experience here that weekend that I wanted to make sure and share. This hotel was more like a fancy boutique hotel and all of the wonderful staff members truly made it extra special for us!!!

We stayed here for a nearby wedding. Hotel was fancier with a stylish look. Unfortunately a gal on my floor drank too much and was passed out in the hallway. She had vomited in the hallway across from my door. Some guy pulled her into the room and shut the door. I went downstairs and reported the bad news to the front desk. They apologized. I went outside to chat with friends and went back to my about 20 minutes later. Mess was still there. Perhaps they were short staffed but in these times I would have expected the area to at least been disinfected. Beyond this mishap the room was nice. King bed was awful. Lots of noise in hallway all night. I woke up at 4am to loud drums/music. So wasn’t overly impressed with the noise level and comfort at this hotel for the big price

I called ahead to find out their cleaning procedure as I was visiting a newborn. I was able to check in with my phone so no stopping by the front desk. No one in the elevator. Room was sealed. When I went in to room, it had the Lysol smell. I had passed a housekeeping cart and saw lots of Lysol on it. I did wipe everything down myself.
Bed was comfortable. I heard no noise and from the number of cars in the parking lot when I left the next day, they were not full. Had the elevator to myself when I wen to leave.
All staff I encountered were wearing masks and so was I.
Hope to return someday when things are better in the world.

Kids birthday parties are held at the pool although they are not hotel guests. Scream fest. It was awful. Hotel staff were totally unconcerned and did not supply any more towels after kids took them all. Never again.

First, I will be willing to change my review if I could have found a way on Hilton's website to send this location pictures taken today...
I was at this hotel for meetings today. I can say that it really disappointed me that it is obvious that safety is not a priority for this location. Please see the pictures I have attached. Yes, we recently had snow (on Saturday morning, the 12th, BUT today is Thursday the 17th. The first picture was taken at 6:30 am this morning of the sidewalk at the back entrance, the hotel manager was informed of the safety of the snow (both in the front and rear of the hotel at 7:30 am. The other pictures were all taken at 4 pm this afternoon. Yes, we had 5-6 inches of snow on Friday evening into late Saturday morning. So, yes I can understand if all of the snow wasn't removed from the sidewalks and handicap ramps on Saturday afternoon, or even on Sunday, due to snow companies having limited help. BUT again, this is Thursday, it hasn't rained or snowed since Saturday, just got cold. Still not a reason to not clear the snow from all walk-ways or even in the parking lot. Yesterday when I was there, I went to get out of my vehicle and slipped and fell on the ice in the parking lot on the south side of the building. Thankfully I didn't hurt myself badly, otherwise, I would be contacting a lawyer!
Secondly, all of the glasses there were put in the meeting room for us to use all had watermarks on them. We removed them from the table and put them on the counter and did not use them.

This is a Hilton Garden Inn in name only. The only food available in the market were pop tarts. The ice machine on my floor was out of order. The hot tub was out of order. My room had one (1) garbage can in it, in the bathroom. The only light in the bed space was the tiny light on a nightstand. The other furniture was low-end. It’s clear this hotel makes its money on big college weekends and ignores its maintenance etc during the off season.
My favorite part of the stay was discovering that the shampoo container in the shower was empty. I made this discovery while I was in the shower.
The man who handled breakfast did an excellent job, though he’d be better served with some help.
Nope I won’t be back, and management won’t miss me

I arrived early Monday evening. Apparently they receive snow over the weekend of an inch or two. Sidewalk on the back of the hotel has yet to be cleared. On Tuesday morning there was still snow on the sidewalk. Apparently it was clear or sometime Tuesday day. Overnight Wednesday there was freezing drizzle and when I went out to the car at 7 AM the sidewalk was a pure sheet of ice. I informed the front desk they told me they would let maintenance know whenever they arrived. Are you kidding me that nobody can go out throw a little salt on the sidewalk other than maintenance? That needs to be addressed prior to people leaving for the day.

I had a confirmed reservation with the Hilton Garden Inn Ames using points through my Hilton Honors program for Saturday, June 18. Without my knowledge, the hotel canceled my reservation, and I received an email just a few hours before I arrived. I could not rebook the reservation because the hotel was sold out. I tried calling the hotel many times, no one answered the phone. Furthermore, nobody from the hotel would answer my concerns through the Hilton online customer service. I have stayed at this Hilton previously and would have stayed there without redeeming points. However, seeing how the hotel treats Hilton Honors members, I would recommend caution to anyone booking a reservation there. Good luck getting a response if you have issues.

Excellent stay!! Staff was very friendly night and day. You have to pass the check in booth very close to enter so the front desk sees everyone coming and going from the front. We got Chicken tenders & fries and Street tacos for dinner. They were both delicious, warm and good portion. Stopped by bar before close the the manager was nice to talk to and made great drinks. Pool and hot tub are a bit small but not a lot of people there so didn’t feel crowded. The gym had everything you need to do a quick workout. The room was large (we had 2 beds) and quiet. They are doing some renovations so some of the paint looks spotty but not terrible. The rest of the hotel looked excellent and brand new with a large lobby to relax in with a drink or breakfast. We will be staying here next time we are in Ames.

Hotel is aged. Which is not a big deal. The general manager is unprofessional and under qualified. Here on business and reserved 4 rooms. 3 or the 4 rooms had issues some minor some major. Issues from broken heaters, burnt out light bulbs, running toilet's, broken coffee pots and TV’s being out. Had to change 3 of the 4 rooms on this stay. We was asked to look at and fix some of these issues. When brought issues to management. He would give us trouble shooting advice on how to fix said issues. I could keep going but thats a mouthful. I would look around before i booked here. I travel to Amies a couple times a month. There are better ran hotels for the money.

Hi Cathy! Great question! Our breakfast is served in our Garden Grille restaurant, so it is an additional charge. You can order made to order eggs, omelets, french toast, etc. as well as enjoy items off of our buffet such as pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt and oatmeal. It is a great value of $10.95 per person, all you can eat!
