Clean spare cabin with basic kitchen and bathroom, wood burning stove. Sleeping here gave us an early start to hike the Kalepa Ridge trail. Had to pick up and return linens from Wailua office. Wood burning stove is cozy. Remote. NO Wifi, Cell service, gas stations or shops.

Don't rent a duplex here. pay extra and get a single cabin so you don' have to hear your neighbors through the paper thin walls. Especially if they have brought their music and it's heavy on the bass. This is quite possibly the most depressing place I have stayed in. poop colored walls. just not cheerful at all. A general bad smell. Disgusting shower with holes in it. that should have been replaced years ago. But it does not look like the owner has put $1 into the place -except for the new stoveand a good mattress. Bring earplugs since the chickens dine right outside your door around 3 AM at the trash by duplex #5. Just. sad. No pride in ownership. Try Grow some shrubs around the electric transformer.

I have had reservations for our stay for several months and was looking forward to it as the highlight of our trip. However when my covid test was still pending due to no fault of my own and no way to get to Kokee (because of my pending covid test they won’t rent your car to you). I called Patrick and asked to arrange something different and then changed my mind due to no refund. I did manage to rent a car but Patrick would not hold my reservation for me and would not return my money either. This is extremely disappointing and he made me end up feeling like a criminal because I suggested I should still allowed to be there even if I had to observe quarantine rules. Just an FYI, my boyfriend and I tested at the same facility and the same time, his results were negative and mine were lost. There was no back up test to take here as you are not supposed to be here unless you have passed your covid test. So due to a catch 22 I have been ripped off. And made to feel like a criminal on top of it.

We stayed here in February and recommend getting the extra wood for the wood burning stove. We ran out of firewood @ 3am and it was 45 degrees out. The cabin was adequately stocked for our basic needs.

The Lehua Cabin is considered their nicest cabin, so this review is just for it. Overall, the experience was perfectly as memorable as we had hoped. The cabin is in the park, so you cannot get any closer for hiking/exploring. This means no hour+ drive to start your day or end your day. It is wet up there, that why it is a rainforest, so expect humidity and dampness. The temperature are realistically 8-10 degrees cooler than at sea level. Depending on the time of year, this can be the perfect temperature. Understand that at night, you will be reading a book or sitting outside, there is nothing else close to do. The cabins have everything you need to make two or three meals a day, just go grocery shopping before arriving. In the morning, you can be the first on the trails, and be back usually before the afternoon rains. At night, go to the lookouts after 9pm, the stars are equal to Muana Loa on the Big Island. There is no light pollution, and you are above the clouds. Amazing, and just a ten minute drive up the road!! There will be no one else around!! You can get a coffee or drink or food at the Kokee Lodge in the afternoon. We really liked staying here because it was a completely different Hawaiian experience. The cabin was as clean as it can get in the conditions. There were some bugs at the base of the counters, but nothing horrid. The bed was good, and the sleeping conditions amazing at about 50 degrees overnight. There is a woodstove that you can buy firewood for, if you need heat. At the very end of October we did not need it, but we are from PA where it was much cooler that time of the year.
