We stayed there for 2 weeks with a baby and it was perfect. We can see the ocean from the cabana and a private deck is available to go swim or just chill. The roof top is really nice too to see the sunset! I would go back there!

My boyfriend and I spent three nights at the Costa Maya Beach Cabanas, located near on "the split" on Caye Caulker. We were very happy with our experience there. Our room was very clean with a private bath, small deck with hammock, and a nice view of the water. The major perks of Costa Maya are the kayaks and bikes available free to guests; we loved biking the island in the morning and heading out in the kayak in the afternoon. Not more I could ask for $45 US a night.

we were so glad we made the perfect choice staying at cabana #5 at costa maya. the view was unbeatable.. the room was cleaned everyday.and they supply you your coffee.. as far as bugs ...well it is central america ...its family owned and operated and we enjoyed talking with them.the location is just perfect if you enjoy swimming or snorkling or fishing.the split is just about a 5 minute walk and is the best place for any of that.
we took advantage of the free use of there bikes and kayaks all the time.they also run tsunami tours and rent any kind of equipment you might need.we had a good snorkle trip with renee to the local reef ..was 25.00us.we ran out of time to do the fishing trip...we were too busy doing nothing alot...lol...my husband fished off the pier everyday and even caught some fish and few sting rays but of course couldn't bring those in....the food is costly in some places...we ate on the streets alot and found it to be the best for breakfast and lunches.a few feet to the left of our room was a guy , jack, who grilled shrimp almost every day from about 12 to 6...12.50 us for 24 shrimp...good deal and very tasty...to the right of our room a guy cooked chicken with beans, clow slaw, and tortilla for 5.00us.....the bakery is great for cheap breakfast and breads.but have to be there around 8:00.am a place in town called pirates has cheap food where alot of locals eat..fresh fruit and baked goods are sold all over the streets and are great......but our favorite place for dinner was wish willys....which was just around the conner from us about a 3 minute walk...a guy named maurice is kinda like your private chef....he always has shrimp, fish, and chicken on the menu 6.00 us...you kinda just tell him what you like and you won't be dissappointed...he lived in chicago for 20 years and went to culinary school there...hes a great guy and if you want something special just tell him and if he can get it ,he will...we had an awsome anniversary dinner...which was a little more than 6.00...lol...but so well worth it.....we ate dinner there 5 nights out of 7.....outside ...only a few tables and he only serves belkin...don't pass this place up....great food...
we also enjoyed the view and atmosphere at the I and I reggae bar...a little ways away but with the bikes not a problem....
the thing we liked most about caye caulker is the go slow rule...we had no problem adapting.....was real hard to leave and get back to the rat race....i think we found our paridise....

Stayed two nights in November 2015 in Cabana 5, the room above the office. This room was EXACTLY what I was looking for in Caye Caulker. My goal: a room either directly on the beach OR with an unobstructed view of the beach. Cabana 5 is (so near as I could tell) the only room on the island that met this requirement. There are many hotels on Playa Asuncion/Front Street, but almost all of them have some restaurant between you and the beach. Since Costa Maya Beach Cabanas is at a point on the island where there are no structures on the east side of the street, the room above the office gives you an unencumbered view of the Caribbean.

The room itself is basic. Paneled walls, Basic cabinets (it does have a kitchenette). Simple bed. Futon in front of the TV. Smallish bathroom with a generous shower that did have hot water. White tile floors, which are easy for sweeping up the beach dand. The room also has a smallish balcony, which is the best feature of the room. Wall mounted AC does the job. Standing fan is also available. (There's also a fourth-floor rooftop deck with hammocks at the hotel, if that is your thing. So near as I could tell, that is the tallest rooftop on the island.)

The decor for cabana 5 was not chic -- it is unassuming, basic, simple stuff. If you're after luxury, you might try Ambergris Caye. If you want a GREAT beachfront room on a low-key, underdeveloped, gorgeous island....this is the place for you.

Caye Caulker is without a doubt the most perfect beach town FOR ME that I have ever visited. A little rundown, somewhat underdeveloped. Bright paint jobs that are fading, and some older, decaying structures. Low-key, relaxed, calm people. Water so clear that its like crystal, and white sand beaches. If you're looking for a Belize beach experience AND you're not prissy, I think Costa Maya Beach Cabanas is a perfect choice.

By the way...I almost didn't write this review because I'd love to keep this option to myself. But, you all have helped me a lot , so I figured I share. :-)

I would stay here for a month. We originally booked 5 nights here and ended up staying for 10.

Costa Maya is clean safe and the perfect location on the island. Tucked away from the busy restaurants and shops it's steps from the famous "split". To top that, this hotel has its own private dock with hammocks and a swing. The roof of the hotel is the highest on the island and an amazing place to read in a hammock or have a nap.

The rooms are clean and cozy. Fresh sheets everyday, hot showers, soap and towels provided. Wifi was top notch. Remote controlled air conditioning and two fans per room. Cable TV as well.

The staff treat you like family and are happy to accommodate any need you may have. They go above and beyond to make you happy. They make you feel safe and appreciated.

FYI: This hotel is your best bet on the island because it includes:

Bikes
WIFI
Private Dock
TV Cable
Hot Showers
Air conditioning
$10.00 off all Tsunami tours

All of this is included in your room price. Beware that other hotels will make you pay extra for all of the above. Especially bikes $15.00 per day! At Costa Maya they are complimentary, Well worth it!

The best place on the island to swim is the split but we had no problem because our dock was so far out in the ocean we could just jump off to cool down.

I could go on for days about how much I love this place. I will definitely be coming back soon.

The island has a water treatment plant an is no excuse to have your guests bath will septic water! They never added chlorine tablets to the water during my trip. The rooms are small but nice an clean. Great location but again Bathing was not possible an we had to move to another hotel with potable water. The well water is NOT ok to use as it carries a multitude of bacteria an germs from the septics only yards away from the well . they claim to b upgrading to the treated water so make sure u ask an or turn on the shower an smell for yourself. Also i booked an got a price with printed receipt. Thank goodness. At check out the lady wanted to charge me $15 US more per night.

Let me first just say that my husband and I love Belize-the people, the beautful scenery, everything!
After 4 adventure packed days staying in a lovely jungle lodge, we left for Caye Caulker. When we arrived at Costa Maya, everything seemed okay at first...until we got to the room. Now we were traveling on a budget and perfectly fine with bare bones accomodations. Let me just list what we did not like about the Costa Maya:
1. Massive cockroach infestation. Not like 3 or 4 roaches....more like 10-20 just in the living room.
2. Dirty mattress leaned up against the wall in the bedroom for no good reason.
3. Water smelled like sewage and signs posted not the drink from the tap...only place on the whole island I noticed this...disgusting for a shower.
4. Rude staff.
We found alternate accomodations for the remainder of our stay and it was amazing! (see my review for Seaside cabanas).
Our last day on Belize we wanted to snorkel, so we went to book a trip through our hotel and the only place that was going that day was tsunami tours. We were a bit hesitant due to our experience at costa maya, but we went anyway. First of all, the tour started an hour late, and they didn't care at all. They packed about 15 people onto a tiny boat and took off. It was really rough out that day, and literally about 5 minutes into the boat ride I started to feel seasick and asked if I could be taken back. For some reason, the tour guide became absolutely irate at my question, cursed at me and told me I was ruining the tour. He was absolutely not going to take me back under any circumstances even though we were just minutes from the shore. Luckily, I was able to hop on a passing water taxi and take it back.

So I was on the boat for a total of like 10 minutes and did not snorkel. When I went back to the hotel we were staying at I told them what happened. They said I should not be charged for that and that they would call tsunami to let them know. Well apparently the girl from our hotel called tsumani and got cussed out as well for saying we should not pay for the tour. We ended up being forced to pay for the tour. The owner of Seaside cabanas said this would have never happened any place else and they will never work with that tour company again.

Heather, the owner of costa maya/tsunami tours is an extremely angry and rude person for some reason even though she lives in paradise. We want to make sure everyone on here listens to the warnings about this place (which we did not do), and find another place to stay and do business. I am pretty sure this is about the only place in Belize you will find rude people and bad service.

Had the guest showed their displeasure with the room, a full refund would of been offered as per owner policy. You only pay for the first night, you are not held to your room if it turns out not for you. The guest check out and said they where leaving the island. I personally never met her, this is what my worker said. The next day we had a snorkeling trip and we received a booking from Seaside Cabanas. The lady got seasick and it ruined her trip. We offered seasick tablets and she refused but insisted the trip return. No one else wanted to go back except her, we waited for another boat to pass to take her back. When she got back she refused to pay Seaside and in turn pay us. It turned out to be the same lady that had stayed the one night with us. The guide told us what happen and we asked others on the trip and they didn't have to many favorable things to say about this lady. Cabana 6 has been renovated, a huge deck and a very popular unit. All new inside and the view is amazing.

My Husband and two children,[10,11] and myself stayed at Costa Maya for 2 weeks and we had the best vacation ever! We loved it and the kids had a blast with all the local kids. My husband and I would have our morning coffee and are evening happy hour every day on the deck and watch the world go by. It was paradise!!! There was so much to see and do and Costa Maya helped us with every thing. We went snorkling and the ruins and bike riding, kayaking, cave tubing, the zoo and much much more. We had a kitchenette in our room however we went out most nights as the food is rather cheap. There is alot of expensive restaurants but with kids we really did not go to those and we found all the restaurants that the locals go to, too be very good. A few nights we had lobster and fish on the barbecue that was caught fresh that day. One of the locals cooked it for us and it was an awesome dinner, before you knew it we had about 20 people for dinner, what a treat.

Would I recommend Costa Mays to everyone, ABSOLUTELY!!!! It was awesome and we were treated very very well!!! Our kids and us are very anxious to return to Caye Caulker and stay and Costa Maya!!! Thanks Heather and Nino for such a wonderful vacation, it will be remembered for forever!!

My girlfriend and I stayed in the room above the office and it was huge! Ice cold ac, great wifi, beautiful tile shower...everything we could want. The rooftop patio is the highest point on the island resulting in amazing 360° veiws. Between the rooftop, private dock and beachchairs we found it hard to leave the property. FREE canoes, kayaks and bikes! Right next door is a convenience store to keep you supplied in cold beer. We also saved 10% on snorkeling with native tours (highly recommend). Location is ideal right near the split and all the restaurants. I appreciated the coffee maker in the room. Also the best food we ate on the island was from a guy (shawn) selling veggi or meat patties from a cooler on his bicycle, MUST try!
We met the owner and he was incredibly friendly. Dont stay anywhere else!

We stayed at Costa maya cabana 6. It was clean, spacious, everything you would need. Big deck with hammocks to lounge. I felt pretty safe there. It is a noisy location due to some unsavoury characters who like to hang out under the palm trees. They start drinking late morning and get louder and louder with music late into the night. The hotel can't do anything about it as they are not on their property. Just a nuisance for the front units facing the ocean. If these guys could be moved I would give costa maya a 4 star. Costa maya has bikes , hammocks, and a tandem sit on top kayak to use for free.
