Had to cancel my stay because of circumstances on my behalf, and these guys refunded my payment - and even helped me reship a package for me. Quick and friendly service. No complains :-) Would definitely book a new stay with you in the future!
Clean and run by very friendly woman named Mita. Awesome sunset views. Nice friendly people staying at the small hotel- mostly Americans. Complimentary coffee in the morning. Shower and bathrooms are outside the rooms but big deal, you're probably not here to spend too much time in your room anyway. We were pleasantly surprised! Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed here for 4 nights as a solo traveler. Beautiful welcome on arrival, nice clean room, clean shower block, right on the water and you don't have to move to see some beautiful sunsets. Hammocks hanging from palm trees, nice area in the middle with a big bench table and bbq. Always fresh coffee on the go in the morning, everyone who stays there chats with the other guests. In the 4 nights i sstayed there we had 2 bbqs. The vibe is perfect, its quiet, really safe and secure, and room 5 has a fridge, coffee maker and microwave. For couples or solo travalers this is a great place to stay. Good job done by the owners and staff.
Excellent location - right next to the busy Split and Front Street, but far enough away to be nice and quiet. There aren't really beaches on Caye Caulker, but Sophie's is right on the crystal clear water and had a pier that people could use, as well as some little rafts to float on. The place is small - only 5 or 6 rooms I think - so book in advance. We saw tons of people looking for rooms that got turned away and had to go to lesser accommodations like Dirty McNasty's (really?) hostel. The staff was very helpful and attentive. They helped us find good places to eat and things to do. Guests can use the hammocks, picnic tables, refrigerator and grill. The office also has cold, purified water for guests which was very refreshing after a long day of kayaking. Make sure you pay cash…
This place was awesome. Clean rooms, courteous and good staff. Steps away from the water beautiful view of the sunset. Quiet safe and comfortable. I have added some beautiful pictures of the hotel and the beautiful sunset.
Sophie's is super clean and quiet. Staff are extremely friendly. Good place for meeting other travellers. On a map it might look like its out of town but it's totally walking distance and a nice couple of blocks away from the rifraf. Definitely recommended.
Sophie's Guest House provides pleasant and simple accommodations for what is a good value on Caye Caulker... which is tricky to come by these days. The cost is actually quite high for what you get, but the Caye is an expensive place to be for a shoestring traveller, so get used to it. The rooms are clean and fairly comfortable, with a shared porch looking out to the sunset (ie, quiet) side of the island, but a two minute walk from the Split. However, there is a dock right outside that makes for a much more secluded swimming/sunbathing experience. The lack of A/C was a concern to me, as the days were quite steamy, but with both fans pointed directly at the bed, it stayed cool. AC would have been nice just for dehumidification as everything inside was more than a little damp…
Super clean, great, comfortable place to stay. Modern shared bathrooms were cleaned multiple times a day. Rooms were swept daily. Clean rooms with 2 beds and 2 good fans. We got the standard room. There's a sink in the room which is handy. Located near the spit which is good for swimming, about 800m from the water taxi dock. A couple of minutes walk to a couple of cafes and a corner store, or about 5-7 minutes walk to the main restaurants. Can swim right next to the hostel - water is clear and there is a dock where you can watch the sunset.
Sadly I'm hesitant about writing this review because I don't want to share this place. But oh well. Sophies is great!! Great location. Great price. The rooms and bathrooms are kept really clean and maintained daily. It's right next to the dock so you can jump into the water or you can grab a hammock and relax in front of your room door. I will definitely be back.
Preface: I was staying on Caye Caulker during low season (mid Oct) and unfortunately had rain the entire time, so Sophie's wasn't the best choice. Nobody else was staying in the accommodation and walking into town during a downpour and back wasn't ideal. The actual accommodation was okay. Beds fairly comfortable. I was in room 5 which I imagine would be lovely if it was sunny as it looks out over the ocean and has a fridge. There are two fans (largest one was pretty loud when on full speed). Toilets separate from room but okay...just needed to time your runs due to the weather. It's located near the Split which has a bar and a couple of restaurants nearby. As mentioned, it was low season so most restaurants and accommodation options seemed closed at this end - so was a 10…
