This hostel is perfectly located on the quieter part of the island. The location is pretty special, right on the beach with spectacular views and great opportunities to swim. You can walk to everywhere on this little island so you're never far from anything. The staff are lovely and helpful and the free Coffee in the morning is a lovely touch! I recommend this place highly!
Sophie's Guest house is a simple yet perfect place on the water. There's 5 rooms that share two showers/toilets. The rooms don't have much, but it's very relaxing. You have a great view of the ocean just outside your bedroom. I really enjoyed staying here!
Admittedly, my husband and I have very different opinions about acceptable travel accommodations. He budgets and I like the splurge. However, he planned our two week honeymoon on our 4K budget (including airfare), and I knew I'd have to make concessions. Sophie's is not the Four Seasons, but it is so clean and charming, and for as little as we paid, it seems bizarre that we were in such a special place rather than a slum. The inn-keeper (kicking myself for not remembering her name at the moment) is so friendly and warm, and we checked in early without any question. There is no air conditioning, but there are two rotating fans that provide plenty of cool air. Our host prides herself on how clean Sophie's is, and she deserves the pride. It's just beyond the split on the…
Clean, clean, clean! Shared bathrooms and shower but it was so clean and nice I didn't care. Quiet area of town. My girls were in the water as soon as they could get there. Comfortable beds and with the fans I did not miss the ac.
This is a no frills guest room and a great value. Rooms are simple and spacious. Staff is very friendly. The bathroom is shared (you have to step outside and walk down the stairs to it). Caye Caulker doesn't have much for beaches, but right next to the guest house (like, 30 steps), is a nice spot to hop in the water and cool off. I'd stay here again for sure
Sophie's is even better in person! I was most impressed by the clean rooms and bathroom. There's free coffee and snorkel rental for all guest. Did I mention very clean bathrooms! Fans are provided in the room. Plates and cutleries as well. Towels of varying sizes on bed upon arrival with a small bar of soap. I was in room 3, with 2 double beds and a sink/mirror. Sophie's right by the water so very picturesque. I spent one afternoon in one of the hammocks available to guest just taking in the beauty around me. My only complaint is that Wifi wasn't fast, I have to admit it was slow even in my room. Although the island motto is "Go Slow", I wasn't expecting wifi to be the same ;) all in all, I would visit Sophie's again and would recommend to others.
Room was great and spacious for two of us. Location is about a 10 min walk from the water taxi and main part of town. The ladies working there were very friendly and awesome to deal with! Not really much of a beach area like in some of the pics, but there really isn't a lot on the island anyway. The office is only open from about 8-6 and that's where the drinkable water jug is so make sure to stock up on that.
Great location, spacious room and close to everything yet quiet at night. No issues with shared bathrooms as there are only around five rooms. Was very hot when we were there though but the two fans provided some relief at night. Would stay here again.
We had a lovely time at Sophie's, the location was perfect as it was away from the noise of the Main Street with a swimming area right next to it. The rooms were a nice size with a sink and 2 fans, only one of our fans was decent enough to keep us cool but that was enough. Not all the rooms were occupied when we stayed so I can imagine at capacity the 2 bathrooms might not be enough. We spent a lot of our time just chilling outside our room on the porch which was lovely. Monica was a delight to be around and the other lady (who's name I didn't catch) was very nice and helpful. Thank you!
We enjoyed our stay at Sophie's very much. Our room was great (the rooms are renovated) and very clean. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are shared, but they were cleaned multiple times a day. To get to the main area of the island it's a couple of minutes walk, but this is an advantage, because the hostel is quiet and the only thing you hear at night is the sea. The view from the hostel is amazing.
