Sophie's Guest Rooms is a budget accommodation hotel right along the beachside near the popular swimming area. It offers amazing sunset views. Since it is close to the split it is in the prime area of the island. Right down the street from Terry's grill, around the corner from Wishwillys, Paradiso, Magandon, and Lazy Lizard.

Perfect location. Right next (soo close, that you can easily go barefoot from your room) to the best beach we found on the island - on the less windier side with calm water and with sand to go into it, also some seagrass, but much less than elsewhere. Also very near the Split and shops. The manager / housekeeper was a nice and friendly girl, wish that all the hosts we met during our trip were like her. No private bathroom, but the room was nice and the described advantages outweigh that a lot.

Stayed for 8 nights, the rooms super clean, washrooms super clean and cleaned regularly throughout the day. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Perfect location. Fans in the room are working fine to keep you cool. Definitely will be back!

Stayed here for 4 nights. The room was very clean and the bathrooms were kept exceptionally clean. The location can’t be beat. No A/C so the windows stay open, which means the surrounding neighborhood can be a bit noisy; bring earplugs just in case.

Beautiful island , not a great place . Staff was unfriendly and rooms are extremely hot , no air conditioning. There are two fans but you will still sweat. The island itself is quite amazing , wish I would’ve booked somewhere else . Stay elsewhere

It’s a big scam. Extra 30 belizian dollars to put on the aircon, pay to fill up your water. Extra 30 belizian for “deluxe room” only difference is they have a coffee pot even though it is complimentary downstairs. Pretty ridiculous. Not worth the money

The room only had 2 fans and the air does not enter through the windows so the heat was unbearable inside. The weather was better outside than inside of the room. They do not offer shampoo or soap in the showers like other hostels. The office hours are not as marked on the door, I had to wait for coffee and water until they arrived. The receptionist is not there from 12 to 2 pm, just when the water jet arrives to the island, we had to wait in another place until she arrived.

I had booked this accommodation prior to arriving in Caye Caulker, and arriving a few days early, they did not have any availability, so we stayed at alternate accommodation until the date of our reservation.
We stayed at Sophie's the one night we had booked and then chose to move back to the other place we had stayed bc we felt it was better value (cheaper, included breakfast and we appreciated that the bathrooms were indoors).

After leaving, I posted a review on hostel world, which I really didn't think was bad, just based on my own opinion after having stayed elsewhere as well.
It was 7/10 - "The bathrooms are very clean, which is great, but you need to go outside which is a bit of a pain early morning and during bad weather. The staff were great and it's located very near the swimming area, but I think it's over-priced for what you get."

That afternoon, I received an ANGRY EMAIL FROM THE MANAGEMENT OF SOPHIE'S which really made this a bad experience overall.

Response from besophiesguest, Manager at Sophie's Guest Rooms
Responded Mar 13, 2015
I responded to this guest review thanking her for her honest review, and apologizing to her for her not been satisfied with our room rates, I also explained to her that we did provide a web site and the booking with information before you have the option to book and pay.I also told her that I would take her review into consideration. Honestly I think she got unhappy only after she wanted to change her dates and I reminded her of our cancellation policy. She did not want to lose her deposit or charged a one night stay for not giving a 48hr notice. First and only dissatisfied Guest, that tells it all!

Hands down the best place to stay in Caye Caulker. From the moment you get there Esmarelda and Monica take such good care of you, couldn't recommend it highly enough. Great value and the best part is the amazing veranda where you swing in hammocks and watch the gorgeous sunsets on the ocean.

Sophie's guest rooms are fantastic.

The owner- Sophie, is friendly, warm and very welcoming. The staff keep the premises very clean, the rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels daily and beds made etc (exceeded our expectations for the money we were paying).
The location is perfect, it is less than 1 minutes walk to the 'split' where most people spend their days basking in the sun, it is a short walk to the village (2-3 mins) of caye calker (with several fantastic restaurants 50m walk from the guest rooms (Aladdins and Terry's grill).

The sunsets are an absolute highlight of these guest rooms, every night we sat on the beach directly in front of the guest rooms and watched the sunset (many people cycled or walked over from the other side of the island to get this view we had on our doorstep).

Everything at Sophie's was exceptional. Value for money I highly recommend Sophie's guest rooms, they are a good sized room, we found the beds and pillows to be very comfortable and the shared bathroom (males and females) was always clean.

I stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and having the room right next to the water. Very affordable pricing, and the room and shared bathroom were kept clean. Only heads up I'd mention is that it was extremely loud one night (albeit a Saturday) - music from the lazy lizard, children crying, a man under the influence of something yelling/swearing, and dogs barking throughout most the night. Even ear plugs didn't seem to dull the noise. However, my second night was just the opposite - a peaceful bliss!

There were no safes. We just used locks on our luggage (traveled with one carry on or back pack each as a family) and everything was just fine. Absolutely fabulous place to stay!
