Welcome to China Town Hotel, located on one of Belize's most peaceful island, Caye Caulker. Our hotel offers a quality of service that will appeal to all sectors of the guests. From the moment you step into our reception area, you will be greeted by our courteous and friendly staff members that will offer you all the service that you will need to make you feel right. China Town Hotel is a very short walking distance from one of the main entry of the island. The water taxi terminal. It's also a block away from the captivating waters of the Caribbean Sea. Many of the main business are only minutes away from our location such as the local bank with ATM, Pharmacy, BTL, Caye Caulker Airport and golf cart rentals. We are also one of the few hotels that have their own restaurant and supermarket and bar. Perhaps, it's the simple pleasures that will delight you the most, if you can take advantage of the roof top that's fully equipped with relaxing lounge chairs. Just lay back and soak up some of that Belizean Sun Shine!

We stayed here two nights with Tucan Tours. I warned the tour guide I had read the reviews and that I would complain if the room was unacceptable. When we arrived we were given a tiny room for two of us on the second floor over the casino (which apparently operates noisily most of the night); you could only access the bed from one side, there were no towels, soap or shampoo, and the water appeared to be cold. I asked for a change of rooms into a new wing. We were give Room 310 which is in a newer wing over the store. Higher level rooms are better and in this case the room was large, clean with two comfortable beds and a new air conditioner. The bathroom looked fine and when I showered, although the water was cold, it seemed okay. Unfortunately after a night, when we showered in the morning, the water smelled of sulphur; in fact it smelled exactly like swamp water. We basically tolerated it until we left, but it is this problem that makes me rate this hotel so low.

The hotel entrance is off the road, which you must take, goes through the bar and along a hall next to the casino. At the back is the check-in desk and a lobby with couches and chairs and tables before you reach the pool. This is the best place to use the wifi. There is a common kitchen off the lobby, and a number of lock boxes you can use with keys provided by the desk. I assume these boxes are safe because there is always someone at the desk. The pool is small and looked milky with chemicals. There is a 'stream' flowing through one side of the lobby that appears to drain water from the pool and recycle it. The building shares space with a market which is about the best you will find on the island for basic groceries.

Everything is nearby, and in a few blocks there are laundries that will clean and dry your clothes in a day, restaurants, a bakery (get there early as some items sell out fast), a good bank ATM outlet, a post office, and a pharmacy. Caye Caulker is an enjoyable island with friendly people and beautiful views, but there are a lot of better places to stay. I can only guess that the tour companies stay here because it can accommodate large groups at low cost. Given the likely complaints they get, I would hope they will consider changing hotels in the future.

After reading the reviews I was dreading going to this hotel as part of our tour. When we checked in it was better than I had expected. We stayed in C17 which had two double beds and a lounge area, however we did see some of the other rooms which were very very small.

The bathroom was clean and the hot water worked fine. There are lockers available at the reception if you need to store valuables. The Chinese restaurant food was good and large portions for very cheap! There is also a large supermarket next door and a shared kitchen facility in the common area if you want to cook.

Two small points;
- The towels we were given did have some stains on them
- There are dogs tied up in the hotel common area, they are taken away at night so there was no barking but it is quite sad to see them tied up all day.

This hotel was rather basic and booked as part of my group tour. Having seen the price of a night here, I definitely would not have paid that amount independently.

The rooms were large, but stuffy. The AC didn't reach across the whole room. Beds were large also, but not overly comfortable. Having a room at the front of the hotel meant there was also a lot of noise from the road. Our room had an en-suite, however the shower only seemed to give us hot water, no cold water. Even the cold tap ran hot - not ideal as we were often burning ourselves to get washed/wash hair etc.

The reception area was small and décor was outdated. You could only get Wi-Fi in this area of the hotel, not within the rooms. The hotel does have a swimming pool, however at the time of my stay, the pool was half-filled and unusable by guests. It is not centrally located on the island and is about 25 minutes from the Split.

I had 3 days here and that was enough.

Bearing in mind this is a 2.5-3 star hotel, with lobby furniture I'd be embarrassed to GIVE away, I slept well with comfy bed, good air-con, quiet. Location off the main drag , i.e. perhaps quieter, but like everything in Caye Caulker, close to everything.
Pool was a glorified bath tub.
Reception staff were terrific though - always friendly and helpful.

Hotel was average to above average for the island. Good location between front and middle road. Had a/c and staff was friendly. Can buy excursions from the front desk. Hotel has its own restaurant and bar onsite but did not use so can not comment on that.

This place should be burnt down and replaced with a parking lot. It smelt like sewage mixed with bleach. It is disgusting and the pool I wouldn't dare swim in. No view and dirty all the time. The staff looked miserable. Please don't stay here ever and Intrepid tour that forced me to stay here for 3 nights please stop using this hotel.

We stayed at the China hotel in March, that was booked through Toucan Travel.
Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. floors in the room were filthy with a film of whatever was put on them. Noisy, voices echoed up the stairs, we were woken up at 4am with 3 or 4 males in the room next door arguing at the top of there voices Staff were rude. No safe in the room we ended checking out and finding alternative accommodation.

This hotel ruined Caye Caulker for us. When we got off the ferry, we tried a hostel recommended by friends, but it was full. The taxi driver insisted we check China Town, "the best in caye caulker" according to him. We gave it a shot. Which was the biggest mistake of our honeymoon.

Almost all parts of it were smelly.
It was just above a noisy bar.
There were renovations on the rooms adjacent to us, we could hear hammering many times a day.
No hot water (a lightning hit the boiler according to receptionist), and the stream was terrible.
When asked for compensation all we got from the staff was "I will call off the renovations, and how can I know the stream isn't good if you don't tell me?"

How about checking the rooms before hosting guests?

Stay away of this one.

Be very careful at this hotel. While our group of 15 people was out for the day our rooms were locked, and were cleaned. During this time we lost 2 x 50 Belize dollars, a shirt, a necklace, a ring and a watch. This was on july 25th 2015.

Please see the reveiw by Lisa as this says it all. Our shower had hot water but water was backing up into the shower when someone else was taking a shower causing an awful sewer smell with black residue all over the shower floor. Disgusting. Stayed here 3 nights with the Intrepid tour. Will have to let them know not to use this hotel.
