Good accommodation with access to back street and main jetty. Towels were changed daily and staff are more than happy to assist with anything. Drinking water, coffee, hot water provided free of charge in reception.

Highlights:
The hotel is centrally located. The rooms are cool (good A/C). They provided beach towels. There is an upstairs deck from which you can see a lot of the city/island. It is expensive to replace your room key if you lose it. It is clean. They have free coffee.

Lowlights:
Watch out if you are sick (which is common on these islands if you are a tourist and do not pay attention to what you ingest), for us they did not send anyone to clean up. This was our our experience and may have changed.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice place to stay for a few nights in Caye Caulker. Good value, spacious rooms and central location. They also offer free water and coffee. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is travelling on a reasonable budget but doesn’t want to stay in a hostel.

Very central location. No lift or porters to help with luggage - much more informal than that.

Does not provide breakfast. Provision of coffee and hot water is erratic and seems to be subject to 'mood'

Room was large enough but doesnt quite work. Lots of little irritations. Beds slide on the laminate floor; missing shower shelf; odd, eccentric sink tap; broken lampshade; no TV. Needs a refresh. No view.

I stayed here for 3 nights in January 2020. The shower room had no fan so smelt of raw sweage and must. The only plug socket was exposed. The ceiling fan was loose from the ceiling. There were ants in my bed. I asked reception to change my sheets, they said they would however they just made my bed. I would definitely not recommend this hotel and never stay here again. I had so many ant bites leaving this hotel.

STAY AWAY!!!

Terrible experience, despite confirmation on booking they require an additional form filled (which you need a printer for, but, logically, while traveling, not have access to any).
Their 24h reception policy is misleading as they allow checkin only from 15h-17:30h.
Zero customer service upon contact. They simply don't reply.

All in all: this ruined my stay! When booking the expectation is to be able to stay, not be stranded on the street.

Decent budget hotel and I have no complaints. Comfortable bed, hot water and a decent sized room. This is a small island so there is no bad location really. This hotel is bang opposite a supermarket and a great bakery is nearby too. Towels provided to take out for swims or boat trips.

I stayed here for 4 nights in February. The location is good, only about a 5-minute walk from the ferry terminal. The lobby is unimpressive, just a coffee station, 2 chairs and 2 old sofas covered with dingy-looking sheets of questionable cleanliness. There is also a small outside seating area at the entrance to the hotel.

My room was medium size with a comfortable king-size bed. The bed sheets looked dirty and rumpled. There was a dresser, but no closet, hooks, or hangers, thus no place to hang any clothing. There was a refrigerator in the room, which was a plus. There was an old analog TV in the room. The hotel has DirectTV, so there were about 50-60 cable channels. The TV reception was good. The air conditioner in the room was a little noisy, but worked well.

The bathroom was modern and looked much newer than the room. It contained a glass-enclosed shower, but no tub. The water in the shower was only cold-to-lukewarm. However, it was so hot outside that this was not a problem for me. There is no shelf or place to sit any toiletries in the bathroom or shower-- not even a soap dish. I had to place my soap and shampoo on the floor while showering. There was no glass or plastic cup in the bathroom or elsewhere in the room.

My room had a small balcony overlooking the street. There was no view to speak of, but I enjoyed sitting out there despite the loud noise from a nearby island generator. However, I came back to my room one afternoon to find a dirty plate and used towel on the balcony that weren't mine. l assume the housekeeper must have eaten her lunch there. There are also small shared balconies on each floor.

The WiFi was free, but worked intermittently. This, however, may not have been the fault of the hotel, but rather of the island in general. They give you the most convoluted 13-character password I have ever seen in a hotel, and it changed every day. They give it to you on a teeny tiny piece of paper about 1/8'' wide, so I guess paper must be at a premium.

The rooftop terrace was very disappointing and uninviting. The only furniture was a bunch of picnic tables grouped together. There were no chairs or hammocks. No plants or flowers, and no shade whatsoever. They advertise that they have yoga classes there, but that is no longer true.

I was so disappointed with the hotel that I immediately started walking around the island looking for other accommodations. Unfortunately, the other hotels in the $90-$100/night price range were about the same caliber as The Plaza. A few were marginally better; a couple were decidedly worse. None were anything to brag about.

The staff at the front desk were personable but ill-informed. The clerk told me that I couldn't buy a bus ticket to Flores on the island, but had to go to the Belize City ferry terminal to purchase it. This is absolutely untrue. There are several agents along the beach that sell them. He also said you buy your ferry tickets on board the boat and that you can't buy them beforehand. Also not true. I bought mine on the island the day before departure.

This hotel was dusty, shabby, and overpriced, which was pretty indicative of Caye Caulker in general. I didn't enjoy my stay, and see no reason to return to this hotel or the island.

really dirty in the bathroom with mold and standing water in the shower and other peoples hair - floors in room dirty and not cleaned well and the fridge if you open can make you vomit from the smell. they want all power off when you are not there so keeping anything in fridge is impossible - they don't tell you this on their website. not sure the extra $9 for balcony is worth it since there isn't a view but we did step out there. housekeeping and maintenance nice but front desk didn't care. So dirty and pillows really bad - I have no idea why others said it was good but that is why I went. I suggest either pay more and go to nicer place or just show up and let the taxi (golf cart) guy take you around and you find a place you like when you get there. we found other options after getting there but since we only had a short amount of time we didn't pack and leave - we drove all over Belize and stayed somewhere for $40 a night that was so much nicer and cleaner than this. you can get a not great room there that at least is overlooking the water for the same price or less!!

This place is not too bad, it is positioned almost dead smack in the centre of Caye Caulker island. In saying that the island is tiny and getting from the hotel to any beach can not be more then a 5 maybe 10 min walk.

The hotel is another quite simple hotel that basically offers you a room to rest your head and not much else. The rooms are a decent size, and have a working air conditioner a TV and an inroom safe, and a fridge.

The bathrooms are also quite large offering a massive shower, which was tricky to operate, with there being a button in the middle of the pipe that needs to be held in for a few seconds after the taps have been turned on. I have no idea what that was about but after that water flowed just fine.

Now, there is a serious FUNKY smell in the room. i have no idea what it was and i did not complain about it cause we were not in our room enough for it to bother me. when returning to the room, there was a strong smell of something, kind of like 'Rotten EGG' it was not only in our room as our fellow travel buddies experienced the same unique FUNKY smell. it was an offensive smell. But we open the window turned on the fan sprayed some deodorant and the problem was solved, until we left and returned again... then the procedure of masking the smell was required again.

There is a WiFi through out the complex just ask at the counter for all of the codes as there is more then one WiFi access point depending on where you are in the hotel.

Across the very narrow road (or path) there is a convenience store with a very good variety, at good priced. here you can purchase any thing from smokes, to Beer, to washing liquid, even fruit and veggies. its basically a supermarket.

There is a self serve Laundry mat about 100 Meters from the hotel for those that require some clean cloths, we used it and it worked just fine at reasonable prices. Of course if your not the type to clean your own cloths on vacation, Then across the road from the laundry mat there is a laundry service, which will deliver your freshly cleaned and pressed cloths to your room at the hotel.

Staff was fine with us, and although did not assist us to our rooms, i found not many places i stayed in Central america was i assisted with my bags. But that was no big deal for us, but it would appear some travellers are looking for this type of experience. If thats the case then this hotel wont assist with bags. The staff were able to help us out with some activities and pointed us in to the right directions for some good fun. So as far as staff goes i think they were great. rooms were cleaned daily, the complex was clean enough. Although due to being on the sandy island there is sand in the lobby from peoples shoes or feet, this i imagine is unavoidable. There is a roof top terrace, which is nice for some photo opportunities or if you care for some take away food and chill out away from the noise up on the roof top.

In Caye Caulker you wont really require any shoes or flip flops, bare feet is the way its done on this island, just watch out for the crabs. We went across the road from the hotel to hire a Golf Buggy, for around US$60 for a day, although the island is small, driving around was quite fun.

Over all i enjoyed our stay here other then the FUNKY smell that was in the rooms. Staff were nice, and prices are good. i found that being in the centre of the island was better then staying on the beaches as the wind wasn't as strong here. there is no restaurant or bar here, so you will have to go out and find some where to eat, but there are many good places to eat on the main strip. Coffee is available only in the mornings here and you'll have to make it your self in the lobby.

Happy and safe travels, be sure to visit Wish Willy's for a GREAT meal.

Simon from
Melbourne, Australia.

How closes the hotel to the airport? Also is taxi service available?
Answer from Caye Caulker P
Caye Caulker, Belize
Hello, As of October 1st 2017 the airstrip on the island has been closed for renovations. We do not provide taxi service but we can arrange for pick ups on arrival time. Taxi service on the island would cost $5BZD per person. Regards, Samuel
