Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye in Belize is often celebrated for its warm and homely atmosphere, with guests enjoying a variety of engaging activities. The spacious and clean rooms are well-received, though the kitchen facilities sometimes fall short of expectations.
While the resort's multiple pools and onsite activities are a hit, some visitors feel the dining options are limited and overpriced, leading to feelings of being "nickel and dimed." Despite the pristine cleanliness and exceptional staff service, the resort's remote location poses a challenge for some travelers considering a return visit.

My son and I stayed at this property on our summer vacation and the staff made sure we had absolutely anything and everything we needed for the duration of our 8-day, 9-night stay. The property in general and the grounds were beautiful. Our room was huge and very comfortable. From the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. After we got to our room, I realized there was no bottled water, so I sent my son to the front desk to ask for some. Before my son even got back to the room, a 5-gallon bottle had already been delivered. By day 2 I think the entire staff at the resort knew us by our first names. My son mentioned that he wished he could fish off of the dock and by the next day they had 2 fishing poles for him to fish with for the entirety of our stay. After I had been grocery shopping, there were a few things I still needed so I just made a list, and they had the guys in town pick the items up. They were delivered to my room with a receipt. They made everything so easy.
The property is remote and they went above and beyond to get us to and from town whenever we wanted or needed to go. They have a boat and a van that they use to shuttle guests to and from town and Secret Beach. If you are having doubts about this property because of the distance to town, don't. They will accommodate your every need and get you where you need to be.
I can't stress enough the attention to detail when it came to pleasing the guests. Oh, and they're all extremely fun too!! By the time we left, it felt like we were leaving family. Ken, Faura, Jerry, Salvador, Mario, Deandre, Barry, and the entire staff truly made it one of the best vacations we have ever had.

We flew up from Belize City, was met in San Pedro airport and escorted to the pier a short walk to the welcome center to check in and find the boat transfer to the resort next to center. In our case, we had time for lunch n a shop for the condo kitchen. We suggest bagels, butter, milk, cantaloupe or eggs, butt bacon and broad to toast w sandwich cold cuts or cheese. Water juice beer or booze is great. The items and luggage will be stored in the welcome center, placed on boat and transferred to room. I like to have healthy snack like fruit, cheese or veggies in room for the day. Our stay was seamless -everything we needed or wanted was available and staff were always helpful and kind. This property will absolutely knock your socks off!! It is incredibly beautiful with nature tropical trees and shrubs. Walkways are sand/ swim shoes work better than flip flops as I kept gathering bits in my shoes. Birds and amazing views of the resort w lagoon pools w islands in the middle, hanging beds, golf carts to ride to secret beach: a section of the resort beach is kept pristine from the sargassum that is affecting the Caribbean. I used the spa and recommend it highly. We had the bbq presentation outside for the two of us our last night. Chef is great. What else do you need to know? It’s unique and private to the extreme. The two bed condos (we bought three) are huge w vaulted ceilings, rain shower heads, great appliances and flat screen tvs, big windows and three private balconies. Try unit 511 or 512 central to all. If you don’t wish stairs try 502. And relax, wear shorts and be a part of the most amazing resort on the Northern part of the famous Belize reef, 15 min from shore or five !

I really wanted to give a higher rating but can’t in good conscience. First let me say the resort is beautiful especially due to its renovations and its reopening in March 2023, the rooms are spacious. The grounds are well kept, the staff and the service they provide is wonderful. Although I question with the limited staff if they are giving them enough time off. The resort wasn’t busy maybe 10 people and they gave me a free room upgrade and made my daughters birthday a memorable one.
The downside: it is VERY remote and it will cost you at least 100 US each way to take you to the main area in the south. The free water taxi provided only runs 7am to drop off in the main town in the south and 5pm pickup so you need to commit to a full day if you want to do the free water taxi.
Although the resort is on the beach you can’t use it due to the sea grass and the only beach on the island that does not have sea grass is secret beach which will cost you a minimum of 100 US each way to get there. I ended up paying the 200US roundtrip as it didn’t make sense that I went away for a beach vacation and didn’t get to go to the beach. My daughter also swam for 6 hrs nonstop.
The restaurant at the resort had limited supplies and therefore breakfast, lunch and dinner were the same everyday.
There isn’t a lot to do at the resort, can’t really walk anywhere so after a few days was getting anxious to go home.
Couldn’t enjoy my two balconies at night due to the mosquitos and no screens on the doors.
I had no hot water in the shower so
my daughter and I had to get hot water from the sink in the ice bucket to shower. Requested it to be fixed everyday.
So if you are looking for a very remote vacation, with very little to do, and no need to go to the beach or interact with a lot of people then I would say this is your spot. If not choose something in the south or choose another island that isn’t affected by the sea grass.

Complaints about Margaritaville Belize:
Very little available at store to buy
No tv in bedroom
Very tiny kitchen garbage can
Sargassum trapped by net at edge of property-made a stagnant huge mess, smells horrendous (like sewage/rot)-it was nauseating
Workout room AC not on
TV and sound would not work off and on
There was no one to meet us from water taxi and we were told in email to meet at Sea Breeze Hotel (there is no Sea Breeze! It’s Sun Breeze, apparently!) We had to take 1+ hr taxi thru jungle path
We didn’t get cold cloths upon arrival
The boat only left at 7am and returned at 5pm
We had to ask for bedding for hide a bed
Location is very remote/distant
There were ants on kitchen and bar countertop while eating
There were no paper towels/kitchen towels/dish soap
No salt/pepper/napkins served with room service
There was only lukewarm water in shower/drain didn’t work
The food was expensive, had to ask for drink/food menus at pool
We were not told beforehand about $50 per day mandatory resort fee
There was noisy construction
We had to ask for music at pool
There were no planned activities/ no entertainment
The bugs were terrible—we used bug spray yet were absolutely covered with itchy bites
Worst vacation!

We had a 8 day visit in January. The resort is far from everything but that was the draw. I've been to Belize a few times and wanted the beauty and time to relax. Now in most of Belize you can drink the water, if not they tell you and there is plenty of bottled water provided. We checked in, were showed our room, which was lovely, modern, nice kitchen, but were not told we could not drink the water. By day 3 my wife was ill and I was not feeling great.
We went to the lobby bar on day 3 and management asked how we were, we said not great, asked about the water and the manager said wile laughing "No you can't drink the water! It's chlorinated!" If you stay there is a tiny spout in the hinge of the fridge for filtered water.
The shop where you can buy food and drinks was not stocked. I bought the last seltzer water when we checked in and asked if they could stock some more. They did not. You must bring your own booze to drink or the restaurant will sell you wine for $75-100 us a bottle and liquor for around $300 us a bottle
The food from room service and the restaurant is not good. We tried everything over the week and nothing was good. Not kidding.
The boats to town are at 7am - back from town 5pm if you want town stay in town.
The pool was never quite warm, the ocean was warmer.
The in room (on your tv) bill was in someone else's name. Informed management it was never updated. On our last day I checked the amount before heading into town. When I check out it was $500 us more.
The staff and other guests were lovely!

I would open this by saying that over the past 15 years I have been to 8 different Karisma resorts and I am a huge fan of the Karisma chain.
This is a new resort that is exactly what you would expect from a Karisma resort, beautiful property, pools and very nice rooms.
However this resort was extremely disappointing. The logistics were absolutely awful and the times to take the boat for 7 AM at 5 PM and this was extremely difficult to find out. I receive no communication from the resort, despite contacts them several times. Ground transport is a 100 USD taxi ride.
The rooms have nice kitchen but are very poorly stocked with kitchen utensils. We had a beautiful double oven in our three bedroom suite and not one single kitchen item to Put/cook in the oven. Also the room is designed for eight people to eat yet there’s only table settings for five people and they have small frypans and pots, no strainer and few cooking utensils.
Despite having nice kitchens and BBQ areas (with green eggs), there is no grocery store anywhere close to the resort. Your only option is to provide a list groceries the night before and receive the next evening (not at the cost of the groceries…) and only non-perishables. This forces you to have many of your meals at the only restaurant that is there and the menu does not change.
The staff there is wonderful and works very hard. However the logistics overall were a nightmare. There was no working printer at the resort so when checking out they turn the monitor from you to look at your charges. However the charges are not list per bill and are broken down and extremely difficult to follow. Even after checking out we then were told that they “think” they missed bills from days before however they weren’t sure if we were charged initially or not.
I never thought I would say this about a Karisma resort but I would not recommend this resort to anyone. This is surprises me as every other experience I’ve had a Karisma was 5/5. I would not return to this resort and I would never recommend this resort to anyone. In the past I’ve sent dozens of friends to Karisma and all of them had a great time. I find any review that has 5/5 for this resort questionable.

Welcome to Fantasy Island
Your journey begins with helpful guides to get on a puddle jumper to “La Isla Bonita”, San Pedro. Literally across the street, your guide will escort you and your luggage through Sunrise Hotel to the Margaritaville air conditioned hut on the pier to board the Margaritaville boat. Expect to wait and enjoy some time at an oceanfront cafe until all travelers arrive to be transported to Margaritaville in Ambergris Cay.
This is where Jimmy Buffet will find his lost shaker of salt. Nestled in the jungle, this secluded but large resort is oceanfront. You’ll be greeted by a huge flip flop and margarita from a friendly and helpful staff, looking onto the adult pool complete with swim up bar, inviting loungers and cabanas. The spacious resort offers everything you would expect from the famously branded property; bars, restaurant, spa, and adult and separate family pool. Ten cottages offer one and two bedroom units, some with kitchens. We stayed in a one bedroom suite that sleeps 2-4 people (included a mini fridge and margarita set ups).
The friendly and capable staff will assist in planning excursions and activities.
The grand opening is in May ‘23. We will definitely go back to see our new friends.

Well I can say it was an interesting experience. First of all, the online pictures will have your mind set on the pictures. Once you get off the water taxi on San Padro you have to walk about 200-300 yards to the dead end of the street. The dock for the resort boat on the left. The directions say cross the street and that is wrong. That should be fixed. You have a nice 25 min. ride to the resort from there. Just remember the boat leaves at 3:30 and 5:30.
Once you arive at the resort dock you will see the nice resort. Hopefully when you arrive they will have all the sea weed removed. The smell was very bad once you got to the beach from the dock. You can not use the beach at all. That is the worst part of the resort. That smell was horrible.
However, the staff and resort rooms are fantastic. We did have a problem when the boat left the San Padro dock early. However, the resort paid for a taxi to pick us up. What I can say is the food was excellent at the resort. My favorite was the chefs special Red Snapper.
In closing, I can say the resort was very nice outside of the poor beach conditions with the sea weed. If you are going this month make sure they burn some wood in the fire pits. That will kill the sea weed smell and you will enjoy the outside air and pools. Hopefully, they will remove the see weed from the beach area. Them the resort will be one of the best in the area.

We just returned a week ago from our 10 days at Margaritaville Beach Resort (MBR) in Belize, San Pedro. Overall it was a great holiday. Like many others have said, it’s the people here that really stand out and go above and beyond. Upon arrival at the San Pedro airport where we met the MBR reps, they immediately took all our bags from us and took us to the pre-check in office, which was very smooth. Once the boat transfer was ready, they loaded everything (as they put it, we are now on vacation and don’t need to do anything). The boat transfer was about 40 minutes, but was a night ride since it was just as the sun was setting so the views during our journey was beautiful. The boat Captain and Deck Hand were very pleasant and enjoyable. Once arriving at the resort, we were led to the bar/lobby to obtain our room keys and were presented with our welcome Margarita’s prepared by Barry (aka. Mr. White), he made you feel so welcome with his smiling personality. Once we got our room (#312), we were so impressed with the size, cleanliness, décor.. everything. Only complaint I have was the lack of hot water for showering. Since you can do some of your own meals here, a suggestion for the room would be to have a few other day to day convenient items like a toaster, kettle and pans you could use in the ovens. There was a small single cup coffee maker, and some other items, but again, as this is set up so you can do your own meals, would be nice to have the added items. The food at the restaurant was good, but since it was the only restaurant on site, they should consider doing different themed style nights.. would have also been nice to have local items available on the menu (simple things like BBQ Chicken with rice and peas). A shout out to Barry (again), Jianna, Leosvel, Anthony, Danni and Salvador. Ken and Gerry (I believe they are the two General Managers) were both so pleasant and always willing to take the time to just ‘chat’. Gerry and I had actually communicated prior to travelling and was great to deal with. It was unfortunate that we didn’t actually meet in person till our day of departure, but he was so informative and was very interested in our feedback (good and bad) and he was even taking notes which made us feel like we were being heard. I wish I had written everyone’s names down as they all deserve a positive shoutout, and this also goes for the ground’s keepers, they did a great job and always acknowledging you with a simple hello (and always with a bright smile).
PRO’s: People, People, People, size of MBR, cleanliness and did I mention People
Con’s: Need more frequent boat transfers to town which we learned on our last day that they actually started two runs a day they day before. Unfortunately, we were not aware of this and were on the 7:00 am ferry but if we had known there was a 10:00 am ferry we would have chosen this time as our flight out of San Pedro was not till 1:30.
Suggestions to elevate the experience: 1: Have Golf Carts on site to rent, 2: broaden the food experience/options, 3: Have Onsite tours available (i.e.: snorkeling/diving) instead of having to travel into town for these.

+1
Margaritaville Ambergris Caye was out of the regular beach hotels in an island. I’ll tell you why starting with the staff smile as soon as you arrive to the lounge they have a few steps by the airport where before you arrival time they come close by and guide you there when you land.
In the lounge Mario will help with the check in and explaining all about the resort and what you could do and policies applicable for a hotel a la cart like this one.
There is a resort boat which takes you there as it is located 15 min at the north of San Pedro.
As soon as you arrive to the resort you keep feeling the kindness and warm welcome from the staff with cold towels, by the pier and also they will help with the luggage (please tip them).
All meals are a la cart and the food is prepared at the moment and is really good. You will be able to choose different options for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
After dinner you could hit the bar inside the restaurant Riddles of the sand” and do karaoke night which is so much fun and as I said you feel like home as soon as you arrive.
Options to explore the area are available to book there, as a tour in the resort boat to swim in the middle of the ocean for 50 usd American dollars with drinks and ceviche.
Exploring San San Pedro is an option as well.
As is a resort a la cart food and beverages are additional. Pool is open 24/7, you will experience most of the main areas in the resort music, event at the boat.
Everything is so clean and tidy, rooms are huge beds are so comfortable, nice carpets, good WiFi, you get to play your music in the screen of your room or the Bluetooth speaker, huge terraces and PEACE.
Look for Jerry who is such a nice person, Kent as well, Mario, captain Pedro and staff at restaurants they are all amazing.
I forgot to mention, you could request to the team grocery list before you arrive and you could cook in your suite or open grill spaces and they will show you receipts 🧾 at the arrival time, you could also do charge to your room from the store. I do recommend to exchange you money in the local coin.
Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye is a real place to elope with all the family, special person and even alone.

I would call the resort and talk to the Manager Ken. He will give you great information and is super friendly. We took a flight and rented a golf cart that we picked up at the San Pedro airport.
Yes you can.
The resort is not all inclusive, but has on site options for food including a great restaurant and bars that are reasonably priced.
