If you're looking for a peaceful experience away from the hubbub of the town center, look no further! A small boutique style facility with personalized treatment from the most friendly staff imaginable. They accommodated our group of 11 with ease; set up our excursions, transfers, golf cart rentals, massages, you name it. Ileny our concierge is the absolute sweetest; always with a smile on her face and can hook you up with whatever you need, on or off the resort. Rob the bartender is a true artist, no "spring break" type cocktails here! Each one was crafted with attention to detail, and was so delish! Great conversationalist as well, we all enjoyed chatting with him in the evenings while he prepared our drinks. Even the security detail was so kind and helpful, Diego worked diligently each night to make sure everyone was safe and secure, not that a person feels unsafe in San Pedro but he was on top of everything regardless. The rooms were exactly as pictured with comfy beds, spacious living areas and personal balconies. The beach area has a seawall as do 99% of the properties in San Pedro, and was maintained meticulously. The pool/bar area was private and felt secluded. Would return 100%.

My wife and I are so happy we booked Athen’s Gate for our wedding. The rooms were cozy, the pool was a perfect temperature, and the beach is always clean and peaceful. There’s even a long dock to walk out on to watch the sunrise in the morning or spot tarpons swimming at night.
The best part about Athen’s Gate is definitely the staff. Ileny was the most helpful person I’ve ever met. She must never sleep because she was always around whenever we needed her. All of our friends and family agree that Rob is the best bartender we have ever met. His drinks are delicious, service incredible, and is fun to just chill at the bar with. Both Ileny and Rob are the perfect people to ask for recommendations and go above and beyond for anything you might need.
The only thing I would caution I would give is for those looking into a resort buyout. Each of the suites are owned by private individuals. We booked a resort buyout so we could have the entire place to ourself and our friends and family for our wedding. Unfortunately, three weeks before the wedding we were informed that the owners decided they would be staying in their suite during our wedding so we could no longer have the resort buyout. Athen’s Gate gave us a room at their sister resort, Pelican Reef, for the same price to accommodate the displaced guests, but it really put a damper on the experience.
Thankfully, the friendly staff and the magic of San Pedro made up for it and we still had an amazing time!

We really enjoyed our stay at Athens Gate and would like to share our experience. The amenities and the beach were well kept, our room was clean and the guys at the hotel were truelly friendly. Bar tender Rober makes one of the best Piña Coladas we've tried on the island. Night guard Diego is a nice guy, he is on property all night looking after guests' golf carts. Front desk agent Elaine was always helpful and friendly.
Our room had everything we needed for a comfortable vacation.
We booked a snorkeling tour through the hotel and enjoyed it better that one we had booked on our own.
The beach front is not as in 2016 pictures, they updated it with a low wall, but it is still one of the nicest ones on that side of the island. Despite the fact the hole island has a lot of sea grass on shore, the water nearby the hotel was cleaner than in other places and we enjoyed swimming from the pier.
The hotel is out of the town and it gives you a sense of peace and relax, for the same reason the  golf cart is useful, and I have to say it is also a lot of fun.
Elaine arranged our pick up and drop off from and to the airport, the driver was on time both time.

This is my second stay at what is now known as Athen's Gate. It was great to see familiar faces after not traveling during Covid and also really great to see the friendly people of Ambergris Caye begin their recovery from the pandemic.
In Belize in general you can really turn off your brain and enjoy life, but especially here at Athen's gate. It all begins with Glory the concierge, front desk, middle man, etc. Whatever you want she can help. She'll help you arrange for a golf cart, excursions, restaurant reservations, massages, take-out, or anything else you may need. She makes everything so seamless and easy.
The property itself is excellently maintained, the pool is crystal clear, and there is a white sandy beach and pier. Don't forget to catch the sunset on the lighthouse, it's breathtaking. The hotel has beach cruisers which we took into town as well as kayaks and stand up paddle boards.
We stayed in a three-bed room villa with a master bed/bathroom with jacuzzi and fully equipped kitchen and dining room. It was cleaned often and the beds were very comfortable. A tip would be if you plan on cooking in your villa is to pack your own seasonings and oils you would use in your baggage as the villas have none of these. The wifi was decent, but not strong enough to do major video conferencing or work which is fine by me!
Finally, I would be amiss if I didn't mention Rob, the bartender. He is always the highlight of the trip and wish I could take him back to America. The drinks are the absolute best. I would suggest the coconut mojito and pinna cola both 10/10 and the best frozen drinks I have ever had. Rob definitely takes pride in his work and you can tell he really enjoys it. How many resort bars do you know that take the time to make their own fruit juices or infuse their own liquor? Above all Rob is a great conversationalist.
I would definitely recommend this place highly.

Our room was right by the pool with a great view of the ocean. It was super clean and had everything that we could possibly want for our ten day stay. But, by far, the staff were what made this the best! Ileny and Rob were the absolute best. They were always suggesting things to do or ways that they could help make our vacation even more wonderful. They could not have done a better job of making us feel welcome and special at Athens Gate.
There are two great restaurants literally across the street. The Lone Star Grill is more casual and offers a Tex-Mex cuisine, very good food. The Black Orchid is more formal and the food is terrific. I would recommend both! Also Pelican's Nest is nice for both breakfast and lunc.
We will definitely return to Athens Gate.

This location was perfect for easy access to scuba diving, but the spot itself quickly became a favorite of ours. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Treated us like family. Special shout out to Rob for making the best poolside drinks (or drinks in general really). I need to know what he put in the ginger mix for those drinks.
The location was also perfect for walking to other locations along the beach, Black Orchid, Lone Star, and Pelican Reef were regular stops for us.

Just returned from my second time at Athens Gate in San Pedro, Belize and hands down had the most amazing time. Right outside of the hustle and bustle of the town, Athens Gate is a perfect home away from home. Not only is it in a prime location, but the view is incredible and the set up is perfect - bikes, paddle boards, kayaks, pier right out onto the water. They have it all and right on the location! My favorite part however was the entire Athens Gate crew. Lleny is amazing! Whatever you need, she will make sure you get it. She planned our trip exactly how we wanted it - packed with fun adventures for a few days and then when we wanted to relax she helped us check out the right places on the island to chill. I’m 25 and went with my younger brother and parents and she helped us all have a great time! Rob, my main man behind the bar, was also so great! He kept my glass full of fresh and amazing drinks right on the beach, shared beautiful stories about the island and always had a smile on his face. Seriously had the best time in San Pedro because of the people at Athens Gate. They made us feel right at home and I can call them my friends now. If you’re looking for a authentic, amazing time where you can get a bit of everything, this is your place!!!

We originally booked a May 2020 trip to Athen's Gate prior to the pandemic which got canceled due to the closure of the country's boarders. We were allowed to reschedule, which we did for Feb 2021 but ended up not going again because of the pandemic. They allowed us to reschedule to July 2021. In May 2021, my husband broke his ankle and was going to be in a cast for our trip. We contacted Athen's Gate to inquire about an elevator and how to accommodate him. Since our room was on a top floor at Athen's Gate, they offered to move us and another family travelling with us to another property just down the street, Ocean's Edge which had an elevator but also a ground floor unit available. We accepted, and it didn't disappoint. The service (by the same management company, Pelican Reed Mgmt, was outstanding. They were very responsive before the trip and during, arranging for our transportation from the water ferry and also having our golf cart rentals at the condo when we arrived. Our condo wasn't ready yet when we arrived but they allowed us in and let us put down our things and play in the pool while they finished. There is a bar right across the street, Stax, that makes amazing mojitos. We had a 3 br, 3 bath condo and it was very spacious and clean with a washer/dryer and full size kitchen. It easily fit our family of 7 (3 kids, 4 adults). The pool was a little small, but it didn't stop us from enjoying it thoroughly. The view is amazing! We will be back to San Pedro and will be looking to book with one of Pelican Reef's properties again!

We just returned from a trip to Belize and stayed at Athens Gate. It was an amazingly wonderful place to stay. We loved the location, the rooms, amenities and staff. Everything was perfect! I can’t imagine staying anywhere else. It has a boutique feel and is private and secluded. It really had everything we needed. It was so nice to have a washer and dryer and we cooked and it had everything we needed to do it! It was my birthday the day before we arrived and one day to came in to find the bed decorated in the most lovely way. I’ll attach a photo below. Such a wonderful surprise. Everything is top notch! We took a tour to explore the ATM cave with Jam Jam, another tour with Alan and Brian fishing, lobstering, snorkeling and then to a private island where they cooked out lunch, and another tour to snorkel Hoi Chen and Shark Ray island. The tours were wonderful! We explored the entire island and never felt unsafe. It is so easy to get around with a golf cart and EVERYONE is so very friendly. We were sad to leave this complete paradise but will hope to return some day.

Had a great stay at Lighthouse Beach Villas. The family was comfortable in a 2 BD/2 BA condo overlooking the water, barrier reef, and pool. There is a small nearby market for snacks and such. The kitchen was well equipped to make breakfast including a 5-gallon bottle of drinking water. The staff were very helpful with snorkeling tours and other needs including providing coffee in the morning. The dock was used for relaxing and tour pick up, very convenient. If you are a sport fan, the tv has many channels to help stay current. The balcony was large and had a table for dining and comfortable lounging furniture.

Sorry the previous management didn't answer your question. Welcome to the island! Our pool is reserved for guests, however during slow months come on by and when buying drinks you are free to use the pool. Just check with the bartender. Thank you for thinking of us.

We just returned from staying on the second floor, 2 bedroom unit. Our view was amazing. We may be biased, but we thought it was one of the best. The ‘rear’ of the building is just the entrances to the units.
I have no idea. You hop in the pool and enjoy the sunshine and let Robert make you a coconut Mojitos. I know six days of running a tab with two adults and one child did not break the bank. I don’t think there are expensive drinks in Belize. You could look at Pelican Reef their sister property’s menu. But I would stay at Athen’s over Pelican
