This was our fifth visit to Avila La Fonda in the past ten years. It was the first stop on a week long road trip driving up the California coast and we were looking forward to a comfortable room, convenient location and comfy bed, which is what we remembered from our previous visits. What we had forgotten but were delighted by all over again were the many extra touches provided even in the midst of travel precautions due to covid; We were greeted with two bottles of wine and a cheese plate in our room when we arrived. In the morning, there were fresh baked croissants on a tray with OJ, coffee and mandarin oranges. In the evening, each guest had their choice of fresh baked pie to enjoy up in their room. But it wasn’t just the food, it was the friendly service, prompt response to our requests and an exquisitely clean room that made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The only problem was the hotels we stayed at during the rest of our trip (and paid a lot more for, too) just did not measure up to our experience at Avila La Fonda. We have recommended this hotel many times to friends and will continue to do so. Thanks for a great experience.

We just returned from 4 days at this great little hotel in Avila Beach, CA. What an experience. The hotel is geared toward adults and NO children as a "romantic get away" and the staff does an outstanding job of treating it's guests like family. The rooms all have a fireplace and a spa tub with some having small kitchens. At check in you receive a gift basket, a nice bottle of sparkling wine, a box of chocolates and a certificate to 3 wine tastings for two people. Each day starting at 6:30AM they serve warm butter or chocolate croissants, then at noon, cheese nachos with beer or Mexican Coca Cola, then local wines and hor d's at 5pm and top it off with homemade pie and ice cream at 8PM.. The hotel "pantry" is stocked with numerous DVD's for the guest's viewing pleasure plus many additional food and beverage items available at hotel cost.
Situated a block from the beach, this hotel is warm and cozy and a real pleasure to review. Very highly recommended.

We have previously visited Avila Beach but had never stayed overnight, until it was our anniversary in June 2020. The rate we were able to get was favorable so we stayed 2 nights. It was a queen bed (although we prefer a king) room that included a kitchen area! We had a small but quaint balcony that had a view of the town (a minor note - in order to see the town from the balcony, the balcony needed to be located over the small driveway to the parking lot). Also, we happened to have packed our small portable umbrella for the balcony!
When we came in our room, there was a welcome basket with a bunch of goodies in it. AND... there was a small plate of cheese, salami, olives and crackers in the fridge along with a bottle of wine. At night, they provide individual fresh fruit pies on a well dressed tray. Who does that?! When we checked out, the front desk person handed us a thank you gift - truffles in a cute little box.

Their social distancing practices were fairly well addressed but certain things that are part of their charm and hospitality were not eliminated (e.g. having guest books in the room are nice touches, but not something you cannot disinfect after guests review). We enjoyed our stay at this unique hotel and the staff was very friendly.

We live in SLO county and yet going to Avila La Fonda occasionally is such a nice break This was for our 24th wedding anniversary and they acknowledged it with special chocolates and champagne. The staff always treats us well (thanks specifically to Madison who checked us in and Stephanie who checked us out (not that we wanted to leave!). The Spanish/European ambiance of this place is astounding, it is literally like going overseas within the walls. Although covid-19 has restricted in person dining gatherings, we contune to get the breakfast platter of scones, coffee and fruit in our rooms and fresh hot pie for dinner dessert. We had a balcony with a small view of the ocean and a hottub. The beach is only a couple blocks away so you can walk to it easily--very little traffic in this town. We bought a gift certifcate for our son and his wife to use in the future. We will definitely be back.

What a great experience! It was our first time there and it was fantastic! Steff and the rest of the staff were amazing! They really pride themselves on being more of a boutique hotel and it really shows! They even bake, inhouse, the best local pies every evening! The property is very quaint, very welcoming and very comfortable. The staff we encounter were professional, friendly and really made us feel special. The property is conveniently located in downtown Avila so once you're there, put the car keys away! Again, the staff and property made it one of our favorites!!

If you’re looking for the perfect getaway on the Central Coast, venture to the Avila La Fonda Hotel. It’s just a block from the beach and the famous Custom House and it specializes in spoiling their guests. And they are taking extra precautions and following protocols to protect us all.
Starting with the scrumptious croissants for breakfast, the wine and charcuterie tray in the afternoon and Linn’s warm pies in the evening, you could stay in your delightful room without leaving it...though you’ll want to. With it’s central location, as well as closeness to the Avila Pier, lots of wine tasting opportunities, Pismo Beach and SLO just a short drive away, there is so much to do. But if you prefer...do nothing and relax. We recommend a spa room with a balcony (facing either 1st Street or the public parking lot, which is usually empty and quiet).
GM Angela and her team are pleasant, welcoming and interested in making your visit all you hope it will be. Special thanks to Steph and Samantha, whose pre-arrival and in-house hospitality made us feel really special.

This hotel is in a great location, only a block from the beach. We stayed in one of the rooms with kitchenettes, which had barely enough pans and dishes to make breakfast, although we didn’t cook much during our stay. The room size was very nice, and the bathroom was fairly spacious, except for the shower, which was on the small side. It was nice to have dual lavatories and a jetted tub to soak in. The bed was comfortable. Our room fronted the main street, so street noise was an issue when we had the French doors open for ventilation. However, noise was not a problem at night and we slept soundly.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Everyone who works at Avila La Fonda bent over backwards to make our stay very enjoyable. The maid staff are excellent; they cleaned our room and made it up daily. And the food and drink are over and above any other hotel we’ve stayed in. The wine and cheese offering in the late afternoon is absolutely wonderful. The croissants in the morning and the pie in the evening are really nice!

Finally, one of the best amenities of this hotel is the underground parking garage, which makes coming and going a breeze. There is an elevator from the garage to the 2nd floor, so moving your baggage is super easy. And not having to worry about parking on the street is a real plus.

We checked in for only one night at this cute property. The furnishings were somewhat dated but the with the mid-week rate (and prepay) it was a very good deal. We were worried about our room being loud as it was located along the street side but we heard no road noise.
They offered pie after dinner, snacks in the room, and a basket of baked goods for breakfast. The staff were charming.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this property and liked it very much. An upscale look with a Mexican motif the hotel is very pretty and welcoming. Guests are treated to a gift basket w/ chips and water, trail mix ... that sort of thing. these items would cost 9.00 each at many "mini bars" in other hotels.
At noon there is a nacho and corona bar. there is a wine hour at 5 with excellent local wines. I actually looked up the excellent Pinot they were pouring and its a 36 dollar bottle. At 8 there is a pie event w excellent pies and ice cream to boot. All this is included. One could conceivably hang all day and enjoy these amenities. Oh did I mention excellent coffee and croissants every morning!
my only complaint is I didn't find the bed particularly comfortable. I don't believe the sheets were changed and on the last night the bed was poorly made and lumpy. I had to redo the thing. Otherwise housekeeping was excellent. that is why 4 stars instead of 5. I like this place and would definitely return

This was our first stay at Avila La Fonda, but it won't be our last. We loved the hotel starting with the location, a block from restaurants, shops and the beach. The hotel is decorated with Spanish/Mexican influences. I let hotel staff know it was my wife's birthday and they made sure she had a birthday card and a basket of goodies in our room. Our room was spacious and clean. The room had a full kitchen with a full sized refrigerator and stove/oven, dishwasher and microwave.
We loved the linens and towels that were all very soft. The queen sized bed was very comfortable. We loved the perks from the hotel; wine and Charcuterie delivered to our room daily, fresh baked croissants and coffee everyday, and fresh baked pie every evening. One thing some guests might not like is that there is no view to speak of from the hotel. The west side of the hotel overlooking the fountain and Alapay wine tasting (highly recommend) is probably the best room location. Bottom line is that if you are visiting the Central Coast, stay at the Avila La Fonda hotel.
