Didn't hear street noise although the some rooms are streetside. The lobby is spacious with a library ambiance. Soft music playing throughout the public areas. Very conducive to lingering with coffee and newspaper in the morning. The clerk was immediately on it when I revealed the TV remote didn't work. There is a $15 resort fee which I guess covers the water and coffee in the room. Was not fond of this addition, however. Very comfortable bed. The restaurant no longer is in business although the awning outside displays the word restaurant. Next door is a must bakery to eat at. Good service at check in and check out.

After a week’s road trip, finding the Carlton Hotel was a wonderful surprise. What a stunning restored grand old lady with every contemporary amenity. Who would have expected to find such a treasure in Atascadero? Understand The Carlton is for sale, go before some corporation ruins her. PS: request room 306.

The Carlton Hotel is a hotel with a lot of charm. The lobby is very large and majestic. We were very kindly welcomed by the receptionist. We had a very large room with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was beautiful with a very large whirlpool tub and a spacious shower. We slept very well and did not hear any noise (no noise from the street or other guests). Too bad our stay was only one night, we would definitely have liked to stay here longer.

Carlton Hotel. Atascadero CA. We visited Atascadero in June and came across this wonderful looking hotel, The Carlton. We looked around the hotel and after speaking to Miriam about the wonderful meals on offer at their restaurant, “The Nautical Cowboy” we decided to return to dine and stay here, soon. We returned on the July 4th weekend. After checking in we went to make a reservation for “The Nautical Cowboy”, imagine to our surprise when we were informed the restaurant was closed for the holiday weekend to give staff a “break”. Really! Covid wasn’t a long enough break for them. We stated this was very disappointing as we came here especially to dine in the restaurant. With a shrug of her shoulder, the receptionist said “nawh, plenty of restaurants in town”. And that was that. On the flip side, the room, with the courtyard view was great, with great coffee in the room. Housekeeping did an excellent job. The overall condition of the hotel was very good. We had the courtyard to ourselves most of the time. R&R with a book and bottle of wine. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We still would like to return and dine here. I think management should have posted some notice on the hotel's website stating the restaurant was going to close on one of the busiest weekends of the summer or at least send an email to guests in advance of their arrival. While they are at it they might want to consider retraining the rude receptionist or better, replace her with someone who has a personality.

Was filming up around Atascadero and spent 2 nights at the Carlton. This feels like hotels used to feel. My room was huge and luxurious, the walls were thick - I could not hear the elevator once even though I had the room right next to it. In fact once through my door, I never heard anyone or anything - that's heaven for me because I go to bed early. Bathroom was also huge with separate jacuzzi tub and shower (I stayed in the vintage king deluxe). Everything was well cared for and clean. Price was extremely reasonable. Desk staff were friendly and helpful. The old downtown of Atascadero is very cute and the city hall looks like it should be the state Capitol. Some decent dining options nearby and Paso and SLO are 10 miles in each direction for wider fare. (If going to either of those cities, stay at the Carlton and then drive there = much better hotel for less money).

This was our first stay at the Carlton Hotel Atascadero. Overall our experience was positive and we will stay again. The property is conveniently located to all Atascadero has to offer as well as the nearby wineries. We enjoyed breakfast both mornings downstairs at Back Porch Bakery. The large bathtub was a nice touch as many hotels only offer showers these days. Parking is convenient. While the mattress was comfortable, using a flat sheet vs a fitted sheet is a step down in comfort. We were disappointed that the digital thermostat would only allow us to cool the room to 70. We mentioned this to the helpful front desk clerk. She came to our room and “reset” it. This allowed us to set the thermostat to 67 but truthfully the room temperature didn’t decrease. As a result we slept with the windows slightly open. This allowed the room to cool though the elevated noise level was a nuisance. Lastly the ice machine on the 3rd floor was out of order.

Love this place. Love the big spa tub. Spa tub is so relaxing and was much needed this visit, since I just had back surgery 4 weeks ago and bird bathing for that whole time was just not cutting it anymore. Total life saver. Guest service and staff are very nice. Love to come here for a quick night away even thou we live less then 25/30 miles away.

The hotel is every bit as charming as it looks. Our room as spacious and beautifully decorated with old world furnishings. And the bathroom was very spa-like with a large jacquzzi tub and marble tiles. It's a historic hotel that should be on Market Street in SF. Take advantage of the great rates at the Carlton. I don't know how you can do any better in that area. And that includes Paso.

I like hotels that are historic, off the beaten path, and have no T.V.s. Well even though there is a small historic component to the hotel the hotel was rebuilt except for one wall and one of the signs otherwise it is about 17 to 20 years old. To me it is off the beaten path because it is in one of the smaller towns in the area. As for no T.V.s well they have them but when not on I could close the cabinet and you would never know. The rest of the room was wonderful. I asked for and got a vintage king room with a huge bathroom with a rain shower head and a jet bathtub of some sort. Very nice. I booked directly through the hotel to get the best rate and decided to stay one more night which I was able to do for a slightly lower cost then if I was to book online. Fantastic experience. The whole town feeling there was good. I felt like I got to know the town and its people.

All I can say is the room was nice and clean other than that the staff wow especially the girl downstairs she was so darn rude when we were checking in and continued to be rude then I asked for a manager what do I get her yelling and screaming at me to have my face mask on which we all three had our face mask on she kept telling us to back up and move away from her she was so darn rude then we went to the restaurant that we paid $70 to eat at that was supposed to include champagne she gave me apple juice and said I cannot have any because I was out drinking at the wineries all day isn’t that what this is known for the wineries of course we had a couple drinks of wine they were just not nice people the staff the only one that was nice was a guy that my husband got and he was kind of nice to him other than that we will not probably be returning the restaurant took forever to service it was horrible, Cheers to them ruining my husband’s birthday celebration
