I stayed at this Fairfield while visiting the area on a half day trip. When I arrived, the gentleman who worked the front desk failed to acknowledge me before going to the restroom although he saw me waiting for help. I didn’t mind waiting but would have appreciated he acknowledge my presence. The property was neat and quiet although I requested to switch rooms after having noisy neighbors near the room I was initially assigned. This wasn’t an issue at all once I moved. The hotel staff was nice and accommodating to any suggestions about the area.

The staff was really nice. Our room was really comfortable. However, we called to make sure the hotel was close to all of our tours that we had booked in the city and they assured us we were very close, when in fact, we were $20 Uber rides away. The metro is not close, and there are no restaurants nearby. You are at the edge of town practically in Maryland. I would not stay here if you are looking to explore DC.

I don't know if TripAdvisor will actually post this because I have honestly never stayed here, and I understand the concerns with fraudulent reviews. However I am not commenting on the hotel so much as the area it is in. As a native Washingtonian I just want to make sure our visitors understand that this hotel is actually in a terrible area and I would never, ever recommend that people stay around here or even visit after dark. I am not sure whose decision it was to build a seemingly nice hotel in the middle of a red light district, and I do not advise that you waste your money on a location that is not only unsafe but far away of the nicer parts of our lovely city.

I am a student who visited DC as a graduation tradition at my school. The company our school booked with was quite expensive, being around 4,000 dollars per person. So, seeing as our families spend a large sum of money on this trip, my classmates and I were expecting to stay somewhere decent for the night, which this was not. When we arrived, the lobby was very nice and clean, yet the customer service seemed frustrated and was snapping at us and our teachers. I understand that it was late at night and we were a group of about 30 people arriving all at the same time, but this behavior continued for the entirety of our trip. When us students would go up to the counter in the lobby to buy snacks or water or something of that sort, whoever was at the front desk would sigh, snap at us, and otherwise make us feel unwelcome. Similar instances happened at times like breakfast, while our teachers made sure we were cleaning up and respectful and not wasteful. The other issue was that our group had pretty much the entire 3rd floor to ourselves, and if you have to stay here I do not recommend staying on this floor. There were kids in other rooms who said housekeeping stole their belongings if they were left out, and our room was not nearly as clean as the lobby. Our bathroom floors had hairs and dust all over them when we got our room and continued to look like the for the remainder of our stay, the bathroom shower curtain and towels had stains on them, including scuffed and broken tiles. Furthermore the supposedly single use disposable lotion bottle had hair and other dirt on the inside of the cap and had already been opened. Additionally, many items in this room were not well-maintained, like having stains and smears on the mirror or dusty counters. Overall, this hotel’s lobby was quite nice, and if the rooms matched the lobby it would be a lovely hotel, and yet they are old and outdated, and the customer service was lacking to say the least.

windanp2024, Thank you for sharing your experience during your graduation trip. It is good to hear that you found the lobby to be clean and welcoming. However, it is concerning that the service did not meet your expectations and that your room did not match the standards you observed in the lobby. Issues such as these are taken seriously and efforts are consistently made to address them. Comments from guests like you help us identify areas for improvement, and your feedback will certainly be noted for further review. Thank you for leaving your thoughts.

We started out adventure unloading and waiting in the lobby for 10 minutes while a cash transaction took place. The details to an ordinary person(me) sounded fishy. After it was our turn and we had been oh so patient the cash client then asked if he could "leave a key at the front desk for a guest" another fishy request. Turns out from other guests...there was "risky behavior" going on there. We would not know since we left. When we checked in and located our room, after requesting to be AWAY from an ice machine...to have a roll away crib/bed for us we were directly across from the ice machine and no roll away. The room smelled horrible. The bed looked as if the sheets were from the last guest and there were human body hair remains covering the toilet, shower, and floor. There was residue left from someone's bowel movement left in the toilet. We were horrified. We didn't even sit down. We returned to the desk where we told the person behind the counter we were less than impressed (no where near the idea of being impressed) and left promptly. Paying $189.99 a night for a hotel that was disgusting was not what we signed up for. We went to a much nicer hotel located much closer to downtown and were amazed at the difference. And $89 a night cheaper. Good luck Fairfield Inn. You will not maintain your 4star rating with these sort of comments. I will never go to a Fairfield Inn again.

Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to bring your concerns to our attention as it only helps us to improve on our quality and service and we take every guests concern seriously. I will personally meet with each department regarding the concerns addressed in your review as we focus each day on ensuring our guests have a better than imagined stay with us and based on your experience, our team "dropped the ball" in your case as relating to the service you deserve and did not receive, and the cleanliness and condition of the property that we work dilligently to maintain. It is certainly unacceptable that a valued guest such as yourself left the property feeling anything less than satisfied, but please know your comments will work to ensure any repeat experience for future guest is avoided and for that I thank you again for taking the time to share them.

The front desk staff was very friendly. She waived the daily parking fee since there was no rollaway bed available (even from the Holiday Inn next door.) Took the shuttle into Union Station, had no issues and that was a big convenience. The pool was small but enough to distract the kids for an hour. Took full advantage of the free continental breakfast, that was great since there really was no close restaurant other than fast food. Room was clean but a bit musty smelling. Location was not some place I'd stay again, I'd spring for another $20 to stay closer to the action and somewhere I could feel comfortable walking outside the hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding your recent stay with us, I certainly apologize for the delay in responding to this feedback earlier and for the inconvenience you experienced as a result of our not having a rollaway bed available to you. I am certainly happy to hear that your interaction with our guest service team was pleasant and hopefully they were able to assist with your individual needs as they arose. While I certainly understand your concern with respect to not a whole lot happening immediately surrounding the hotel, I did want to share that construction is scheduled to begin within the coming months on a retail plaza adjacent to the hotel which will include a Wal-mart, retail stores and restaurant options. It is true the area is a a slightly older section of the city, I can assure you safety and security are always our primary concern and the surrounding area is undergoing constant re-vitalization which will only continue the facelift that has already begun with the opening of our hotel site. Thank you again for your time and sharing your thoughts, we always review them in determining ways in which we can continually improve our service and quality.

From check-in to check-out, my stay at this hotel was the worst experience that I have ever had. The amount of anxiety that I have had to endure while at this establishment was not worth the money that I had saved by not staying closer to the downtown DC area.
First, upon making my reservations, I specified that there would be 3 guests, and that I required a roll-away bed to be included with the room. When I arrived at this hotel, and checked into the room, I found that the room was extremely small, and that the Roll-away bed was not present. I called the front desk to request that the roll-away bed be brought up, and the attendant assured me that he would bring one up himself, and right away. After about an hour, we still had not received the roll-away bed. I called again down to the front desk, and another clerk said that she would check and see if a roll away bed was available. A half-hour later, we still had not gotten one. When calling the front desk again, She assured me that someone had just been sent to bring it up to us, and 10 minutes later a security guard came to my room to let me know that no beds were available, and gave me instead some extra blankets. I called the front desk, where an increasingly rude clerk informed me that the roll-away bed was a request and not a guarantee. I informed her that the room would not suffice, as 3 people cannot share a bed, and she agreed to upgrade us to a larger room.
For the next 2 nights that I had stayed there, I was terrorized by loud and inebriated guests roaming the halls and knocking on doors in the early hours of the morning. Calls to the front desk were not answered by attendants, and when I complained in the morning, they were very apologetic, but could not provide any answers or satisfaction.
The last incident that I encountered with the Fairfield Marriott is the worst transgression, and the real matter of my discontent with the Marriot family. When attempting to withdraw money at an ATM, I received a message saying that my card was not valid. Customer service at my bank told me that the Fairfield had attempted to charge my card in the amount of $10,002 (Ten Thousand and Two) dollars several times and as a fraud precaution my bank had put a hold on my card. I advised my bank that this must have been an error, notified the general manager at the Fairfield , who agreed that it must be a computer glitch, and he agreed and apologized for the inconvenience.
On the day of my departure, while performing my online banking, I noticed 2 charges on my account made by the Fairfield, one for $1,000 (One Thousand) dollars, and another for $500 (Five Hundred) dollars. Again, I spoke with the General Manager, and he was unable to find record of these charges to my room. I provided him with the information of my bank, where he was to fax a letter stating that the charge was in error. They assured me prior to my checking out that this was done. Upon my return home, my bank has told me that they have not received this fax, and I have been on the phone several times with another general Manager at the Fairfield, who again assured me that she has resent this fax. I spoke with the complaint department at Marriot, who could not get in contact with the Fairfield DC, nor could they provide me with any recourse.
To this very moment, my bank has not received this fax, and unless the Fairfield rectifies the situation on their end, I will not get this $1500 dollars credited back to my account. As this is a debit account involved, I am out of actual cash and cannot attain mobility until my next pay cycle.
I have never before encountered any situation like this at any hotel that I have stayed at. Rest assured, that I will never frequent the Fairfield at Washington DC, or any other Marriot branded hotel ever again. In addition, I will advise all of my friends, family, business associates, clients, and vendors of my experience, and implore that they do the same. It is quite obvious to me now that employees at the Marriot chain hotels are defrauding their guests, and the management of Marriot is perpetrating this fraud by not taking steps to prevent this activity. I believed the Marriot to be a trusted name in the hospitality industry, but now I see that this is not the case.

Stayed at Fairfield Inn - NY Ave was highly disappointed.
Beautiful hotel in drug infested & high crime neighborhood. Pulled into parking lot as drugs were being smoked/used on 2nd floor. Window curtains open. Brought to attention of Mgmt..who appeared to act quickly to resolve issue. Was it really resolved? Stayed in Rm 525..same problem..drugs being used/smoked on 5th floor. Why change rooms?? Appeared to be problem throughout hotel on every floor and $15 day parking. Security officers on sight...apparently this is an ongoing problem.
Very unfortunate that this Fairfield Inn bearing the name Marriott is a poor example of the Marriott brand where patrons feel more than comfortable smoking/using drugs in rooms that are smoke free.
Over 10 years, as a Marriott Reward member, we will not stay at this Fairfield Inn again or recommend to friends & family.

Dear Mynewtown; Thank you for choosing to stay at our hotel and providing your honest feedback. As previously discussed with you providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and we sincerely apologize for falling short of meeting your expectations. We are disappointed to hear that despite our best efforts to ensure a comfortable stay, your mind was already made up that our hotel was not a good place to stay. We cannot control other guests actions or behaviors, as a smoke free hotel we do not condone this kind of thing on site. With strict policies in place to prevent that, however, we cannot be everywhere at once and rely on our valued guests, such as yourself, to report violations to us. It is a shame that some people will break that rule but as you stated our team acted quickly and removed those violating our rules and upgraded your family to a different room and floor. We have security on site as do many hotels in the city, not because of crime, but to enforce our policies and help guests feel at ease. We are very safe hotel in a busy downtown city, like many large cities, there are better areas and some that are less attractive, that should not be reflective of the great service you received from the team, the quick actions by our Manager to address your concerns. Once again, thank you for your valued feedback and we hope to regain your trust in this hotel location, as one bad apple should not ruin the bunch. We hope you allow us another opportunity to elevate your next stay, whenever your travels bring you back to Washington Thank you, Sarah L e-Commerce Manager

Pros: Hotel room was VERY clean and modern. Beds comfortable, mini refrigerator and microwave were a nice bonus, bathroom large and well ventilated, air conditioner worked great. Pool and hot tub were small but clean. Workout room also small but up-to-date and clean. Free breakfast was convenient but few choices. Jimmy Deans sandwiches, batter for waffles, oatmeal, fruit, muffins, etc. Shuttle service to Union Station was convenient, though there is no service from ~11:30am-5pm.
Cons: Hotel is in a rundown neighborhood, numerous abandoned buildings and sketchy people. Wasn't worried about parking our car their but definitely wouldn't have walked the neighborhood, even to go get food. Would've given the hotel 4.5 stars if it wasn't for the service. The only person we encountered that seemed interested in even working there was the man at the front desk with the long dreadlocks (Sorry I cannot remember his name). He always greeted us with a smile and even drove the shuttle for us when the shuttle driver didn't show up, leaving us waiting for 1/2 hour. Every hotel I've ever stayed at had a receipt waiting for us at our door the morning we were checking out. No receipt, and when we went to the desk to check out the staff was in the business area on the internet instead of at the desk. The lady who watched over the breakfast station every morning had a scowl on her face and seem annoyed to be there. She failed to even refill the water pitcher?! There was a random homeless guy who was getting free coffee and arguing with a maintenance man the afternoon we checked in, and who was also hanging out in the lobby when we came back from downtown that night (no point in turning him into the staff because he seemed to be chatting with one of the ladies at the front desk). We had to excuse ourselves multiple times when bringing our bags to the rooms because the maids had their carts blocking the hallway and were standing around chatting. The rooms there are not cheap, which made the below average service even more frusterating. I don't think we'll be returning to this hotel next time we're in DC. I don't want to spend my $ at an establishment where it's not even appreciated, or even acknowledged for that matter.

I would like to thank our guest for sharing their recent experience with us and bringing our attention to the positive areas of their stay along with the areas in which we did not exceed their expectations with respect to service. Our location is in an older section of the city that is currently revitalizing with significant development projects slated to begin later this summer in the immediate surrounding area. I would like to offer my sincere apology on behalf of the team as we did not meet your expectations with respect to service as that is our daily goal in which we work to make each and every guest feel as welcomed and valued as you truly are, the deficiencies you experienced will be utilized in our continuing effort to train and educate the team on ways in which we can improve upon our service culture and learn from the mistakes of the past in which we were unable to deliver. Thank you again for taking the time out of your schedule to express your concerns. We hope to have an opportunity in the future to redeem ourselves and have you return as a valued guest.

Hi, thank you for the great question! I am happy to address this best I can. Each hotel is different on their policies and I can assure the safety deposit boxes at the front desk are secure and private, the guest is the only one with the key to that box during their stay and with full trust in our team we have never had any theft issues as a result of any customer valuable left in these boxes as no one else can access the contents. But I can understand and appreciate the concern and sorry that do not have a safe in our rooms. I do not recall if this location had safes in the rooms prior to a renovations a few years back.
The hotel has a courtesy van. It's pretty far from Dulles, but yo can get public transportation to DC but need to get a cab to hotel. Metro station is not real close either.
There are more places to choose from in the Washington DC area.
