The Omni Shoreham Hotel boasts a fusion of historic elegance and a serene atmosphere, cherished by many for its proximity to attractions. However, some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with the rooms, citing cleanliness, dated decor, and maintenance issues. The hotel's value is questioned, with concerns about high costs for amenities and occasional overcharging.
While the amenities, including the pool, are appreciated for their historic appeal, modern conveniences are sometimes missed. Service quality has received mixed feedback, with commendable efforts at times overshadowed by occasional lapses in professionalism.

Detailed Reviews
We selected this historic hotel for its spectacular in-ground heated pool and landscaped gardens, a rarity in downtown Washington, DC. Our stay was tranquil, as the suite we stayed in was extremely quiet, featuring a balcony overlooking the pool and comfortable beds. While the updated baths may not be that large, this large hotel, featuring a lot of conferences, has a great outdoor terrace and breakfast and is located not too far from D.C. attractions. It's location near Rock Creek Park makes guests feel like they are miles away from a big city.

Hotel's Favorite
I intentionally chose a hotel that is walking distance from the Smithsonian National Zoo. The Omni Shoreham was perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and comfortable. Taxis are always at-the-ready, should you choose, if going to the National Mall and museums. Less than 30-minutes from Reagan National Airport it is ideally located with a variety of restaurants just a close walk away. The hotel, itself, has a wealth of history to claim with the Beatles, Presidential inauguration galas, etc. No doubt, I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to DC.

A very beautiful hotel with a beautiful property and the promise of a luxury stay. However, every little thing costs extra. The only available parking option was valet, however we were not informed that this would cost an extra $55 and only learned so when viewing our statement at checkout. This high end hotel wants an extra $10 a night to use wifi when cheap motels will provide it for free. We spend well over $100 for a meal for two in the lounge and received low quality, cheap food. And to top it all off the mattress in our room was extremely hard and uncomfortable. For such a beautiful hotel, I expected a lot more than constant upcharges and disappointment.

I booked this hotel thinking it was going to be luxurious, but was disappointed to be met by rude staff and underwhelming service.
Right off the bat they made us feel unwelcome when we checked in, telling us the room wasn’t ready, but rolling their eyes when we asked to keep our bags there while we went to explore the city.
But the worst was the attendant working the pool area, who was just plain rude and unprofessional, even bordering on confrontational, for absolutely no reason. We were treated like we snuck into the hotel rather than being treated like paying guests. (We didn’t ask for anything from staff or complain once. They just seemed annoyed with all guests in general).
I only booked the Omni for the hot tub, which at least didn’t disappoint, but it was annoying to have to sign in on a piece of paper before being allowed to use the pool area and to deal with an impolite attendant every time, who frankly made me uncomfortable with the rude demeanor. We had an easier time getting into some of the government buildings in D.C. than we did the hotel pool we were paying for.
The pool bar also was not open, despite the pool area being advertised as fully open for the season starting in May, so there was nothing to drink by the pool. Plus, the housekeeping was sub-par. The beds were itchy, everything was run down, and they didn’t replace the used cups in the room or provide more plastic bags for the ice bucket. I began questioning how clean everything really was after seeing how little they cleaned each day (which was less and less as it went on).
They shut off the air conditioning every time they came in to clean as well, so instead of coming back to a chilled room after hours of sweating walking around the city, we were met with a stuffy room each day and had to wait for it to cool down.
They also didn’t answer the phone if you called to ask that something be brought to your room, which wasn’t even the biggest deal, but for the price and the Omni’s reputation, I was surprised. We made do without the extra towels we needed, but shouldn’t have had to. I have actually never stayed in such a terrible hotel and I’m not even a traveler who stays at a lot of fancy places.
If you are planning a trip to DC, I would only advise to book this hotel for the outdoor pool/the location near the train if you aren’t bothered by bad service and rude encounters.
For me, the Omni put a damper on an otherwise great trip, and I would never stay there in the future.

I stayed at the Omni which was the host for the NASW Conference 2024. I must say this hotel has an impressive and grand interior. They have the capacity to host large events as there were 2 conferences at once. Which the drawback is though they have a large staff service and elevators are expectedly slow. They are in a location where you can easily walk to a variety of bars and restaurants. The location appeared to be safe and just a few steps from the metro station. The room service was excellent. My housekeeper was Linda Butler. I was able to catch up to her when I returned to my room. I brought my aging parent with me because I did not want to leave her alone while at a conference. She was so patient, kind, and understanding with her, which I appreciate. She is energetic and seems to love her job, having excellent customer service skills. I think this is to be rewarded in an industry where so many are less than friendly. So thank you Omni and Linda Butler.

First the vents over the check-in counter are leaking moldy water on people and they are at the desk. Second, no one sent the Pre-authorization on Sunday per our request. The valet parking only option should be noted when making the reservation. Once we get the car back from the Valet, it was obvious that someone had gone through the center counsel. The Valet driver drove the car too fast and scraped the ground coming out of the area. The food at the cafe was wrong almost every time we ordered. The last time it made us sick. (frappe) Then no one called the room or cell phones to let us know there was an issue with no payment on file because the pre-authorization wasn't sent. We were in the room all evening. They sent a man to our room at 11PM at night knocking on the door to tell us to call the main desk. The man had a hotel key card in his had with our room number on a sticky note. We were woken from sleep to this. This did not seem like a safe situation and made us worry and unable to sleep further because would that man have entered our room if we did not answer. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I was also checking out in the lobby and the "manager" said that nothing has been paid and we could not leave. It was determined that again no one had sent the pre-authorization email to my employer. I also overheard another guest who was upset because while their car was parked with the mandatory valet overnight 3 windows were smashed on their car. They were not getting adequate service for this at all.

Room Condition: The room was in poor condition and felt rundown. The bathroom door was falling apart, which was unacceptable.
Ironically, this was the upgraded room!
Value for Money: The room was extremely small and did not justify the price we paid. It felt overpriced for the quality and size provided.
Water Policy Issue: There was a small sign in the room indicating that water was available upon request. However, when I approached the front desk, I was told that we were only entitled to two bottles of water on the first day. The receptionist handed me a bottle and said, "This is from me," which felt dismissive and unprofessional. She did not address the sign in the room or clarify the policy. Water should be replenished daily by housekeeping to avoid such confusion and embarrassment.
Staffing and Amenities: The hotel was large, but there often seemed to be insufficient staff to assist guests. Additionally, the ATM machines had a limit of $200 in $20 bills, which was inconvenient.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and did not meet basic expectations. It felt far below the standards of a well-maintained hotel, and I was left with the impression of being in a poorly managed facility.

This review is not easy to write. This is a beautiful hotel. However, the check-in staff is the worst I have ever encountered in my 25 years of traveling. Check-in is 3 pm. I was given a room at 9:30 PM! I asked to talk to the night manager, at the front desk once I finally got my room. The front desk clerk would only go back and ask the manager questions, but wouldn't let me talk to them. The only compensation they were approved to give me for the 6.5 hour delay in getting my key was 1 free breakfast up to $25. I said free breakfast $25 per day, since I was staying 5 nights? Nope! 1 free breakfast up to $25. That was it. I thought I had it bad, it wasn't until the next day that I learned that my daughter and a few other girls never got a room that first night for their leadership conference. They had to sleep on the floor of someone else's room. They finally got their room at 5:30 PM THE NEXT DAY! 27.5 hours later! How is it possible that the hotel could be giving priority to other customers and giving out rooms to others when these girls had to wait over a full day to get there room? How can you run a hotel this way?

We were with a scientific group. It had been pre-arranged that most of our guests would be on a master list for payment. They removed the minibars, and in some instances, they did not service the room properly. I had to call the front desk to get water, and they always forgot my wake-up calls. This property is a long-standing hotel in the District of Columbia. The property needs to have a designated smoking area for the guests. It was appalling to go out and return, and all of the cigarette butts were all over the entrance.

We have been staying at this hotel for four years. Our son was a student at a university in Washington, D.C. We always stayed at the Omni Shoreham Hotel because of its location and because it allowed pets. Let me also say that it is a superb hotel! BUT, the car valet situation and the valet personnel are a nightmare. After a seven-hour ride from NY, each time we would pull up to check in and get our luggage out of the car, we were rushed and yelled at to move our car. In one instance, I roll my luggage on a cart. A valet person is bringing someone else's car to the curb, and he is honking their horn insistently. Unaware of who he is honking at, the car owner is puzzled. The valet person gets out of the car and begins speaking to me! "Didn't you hear me honking at you?!" No, I did not; there was no way of knowing who he was honking at or even why he was honking. The car owner was as puzzled as I was. This past December, we arrived in D.C. for our son's college graduation. Nothing puts a damper on the excitement than having valet personnel yelling at you to move your car! I couldn't move my car. There was another car blocking, and I did not want to risk squeezing my car through, possibly damaging someone else's car or mine! I was told, "Move your car, or I will move it for you. So, I handed over my keys and allowed him to take the wheel. What choice did I have?!?! I videotaped the whole incident. I will add images from the video below, but I certainly have the video to share if anyone is interested. To get my car through, the valet person had to ride my brand-new VW Atlas onto the curb! The video is priceless. After he did this, he asked, "Will you be valeting your car?" NO WAY! This is not an isolated incident. I don't know why The Omni Shoreham Hotel would want this to be the guests' first experience of the hotel. We love this hotel. Everything about it. IT IS AMAZING and unique. There was no question that we would stay there and celebrate our son's graduation there, but gosh, it's so awful that we have to go through such a stressful and unkind experience every time we check in!
