We chose the Watergate Hotel for our 50th Wedding Anniversary because we had spent our 5/12/73 wedding night in Room 1011 of the then infamous (Nixon, Watergate hearings, political history) hotel. We asked specifically for room 1011 for our 50th, and it was set aside for us. Check-in was warm, efficient, and congratulatory. The associate, Ahmed, even showed enthusiastic interest in the vintage (1973) bill and room service menu that we brought to the hotel for its archives. A lovely bowl of fruit and a plate of tasty macaroons along with a thoughtful handwritten note from Hotel Director of Rooms Matthew Deudne greeted us in our room. The views of the river, Roosevelt Island, Harbour, Georgetown University, and sunset were spectacular. The Top of the Gate late night views of the Watergate, Kennedy Center, sparkling lights of Key Bridge and Georgetown, river, and Venus in the skies capped off the wonderful day. The next morning our brunch at Kingbird was just as charming with a warm welcome by the restaurant manager (from the Netherlands), the professional wait staff, and the thoughtful complimentary key lime dessert with a chocolate *Happy Anniversary" plaque and prosecco. When we left, the cheerful doorman brought my husband a chair while we waited for the valet. We were thrilled with every special touch during our perfect visit.

This legendary hotel did not disappoint! A balcony room overlooking the river was perfect for a quick weekend getaway. The bonus was unseasonably warm temperatures in the 50's and 60's. Rest assured at the first opportunity, it was a must have an extra dry martini, up, with extra olives at the Next Whiskey Bar. Although the wait for service was a bit longer than expected considering the light crowd, the martinis were perfect. Room service, such a rare indulgence, was a welcome treat. I packed so much into this weekend stay it was nice to lounge in with dinner in the plush bathrobe on the last night. While I would have loved to order a martini with my dinner...that's ok sparkling water made for a better nights sleep. I called the front desk to inquire if a late check out was possible. The answer was yes! So, I ordered breakfast from room service and worked comfortably before my return flight home.

I wanted a hotel close to theater. So, this hotel was perfect . I walked to & from the ballet. Was upgraded to a. River view. Had room service 1x & stopped by rest. only to have my food delivered to room since I was on a call. Nice rooms & lobby. Just gardens & walkways around complex seemed run down a bit.

Overall gods experience. Front desk and front door staff excellent. Disconnect between the restaurant and bar staff at night. Some of that staff had major attitude problems with doing their jobs even well before closing time. For the price you pay for a drink $26, you would think the staff could muster a smile or get some children ice cream. Restaurant and bar staff blamed each other and Covid for the fact that they couldn’t communicate. Some night staff were great others were not. Watergate room was a 75$ charge just to look at it! Not worth it. Outdoor igloos way over priced and unused as far as we could see the whole week. Hotel missed the mark by making this outrageously priced rather than a reasonable range where that space would actually be used. Salt pool and hot tub were very clean and the pool was big. Overall nice hotel, pricy but potentially the norm for this type of hotel in DC.

Our visit started off on the wrong foot when I was informed of a “resort fee” of over $30. This fee was not mentioned on the reservation except to say rate did not include “taxes and fees.” The room was not exceptional, except that the bathroom was really nice. We tried to get a drink at the bar at 3:30, but were told by the two employees standing there that they didn’t open until 4:30. Given the high prices of the drinks ($25 and up), that was probably just as well. We had breakfast at Kingbird. The service was excellent, the meal was good, very good coffee. Expect to pay about $30 each for breakfast. The location was fantastic for us, as we attended a ballet at the Kennedy Center. Upon checkout, the clerk very kindly removed the resort fee. For the price, there are several other DC properties I prefer. (Check out The Willard!)

Dear sallyj0336YK, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we will review your experience and address the opportunities you experienced with our team. Ensuring that the miscommunications are eliminated. We are glad that you enjoyed your experience in Kingbird. We charge the resort fee in order to provide multiple complimentary amenities that are typically for a charge in other hotels. Regardless we will review our confirmations and verbiage to ensure we are transparent with all of our fees and taxes. We do hope to host you again. Regards, The Watergate Hotel

It was FAR, FAR more than I expected. Maybe I didn’t have an expectation, but the quality of the service, checkin, room furnishings and help from every member of staff was more than I anticipated. To someone not used to this quality of service, it was a (PLEASANT) surprise

Its sure upscale hotel, but it still a lot of lack of service we experienced during our stay. 1. We called Room service and made them aware that we ordered UberEATS and it will be delivered, and hotel service assured us they will deliver to us to the 7th floor. Never happened. Food was sitting at reception for 3 hr and got cold. We had to dress up and go down to get it. 2. Called again for some utensils. Never happened. 3. They said Room was upgraded but it was nothing but a higher floor. Very small. Although bathroom was amazing. 4. Be careful ordering form lunch menu as the risotto I ordered looked like one pack of oatmeal just poured on my big plate. It had like 3 tinny dried mushrooms on top. I saw waiter taking the same dish to other tables and it looked like it was overflowing with mushrooms. Overall is rip-off for $31. 5. The main restaurant was closed for Sunday's dinner. We had to settle for Whiskey bar dinner with 2 minors. No warning. That was supposed to be our 2 birthdays celebratory dinner... very disappointing. Also, I mentioned before coming in that the purpose of the booking is celebrating 2 birthdays. Hotel did not recognize it in any way.... Doubtful I'll be back.....

Amazing visit! The property was beautiful but what made the visit really stand out was the staff. From the doorman, to the front desk to the room staff everyone was just exceptional. In particular I'd like to call out the concierge Mesfin who went above and beyond to help our family out on our adventures around DC. We will absolutely be staying again!
