Detailed Reviews
We booked this so we would have close access to the National Mall to see the celebrations safely and also have easy access to hotel. We chose the Residence Inn for its larger room/kitchen convenience, even though other locations of full service hotels closer to the White House were available.
The staff were all very welcoming ( I used to average 7 nights a month for work), particularly Erin and Lynn.
The rooms have impressive sound proofing. After we got to the hotel , we stayed on the balcony to see the distant fireworks on the horizon. There were helicopters quite low patrolling as well and I figured between that and the sirens, sleep was not going to be what we expected.
But inside, the sound proofing was perfect and the bed extremely comfortable.
Morning breakfast was served in pre-packed eggs: I really thought there would be a pastry and a token orange juice or something so I set the kids' expectations appropriately before they went to pick it up at the desk. They went overboard to pack boiled eggs, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, chicken sausages and I was surprised when we saw the bags.
And wear your masks inside: I did not come across a single guest (kids included) or staff member that did not have a mask on. ANd that was great to see.
Great work!

We stayed here for 5 nights on points in a 1 bedroom suite. This is a great choice for families as the separate bedroom gives parents and kids a little separation. We had a large corner room from which we could see the capital lite up at night (although this might have been an upgrade since I am platinum). The room had full size fridge, microwave and dishes. The large couch turned into a couch bed that even my teen didn’t complain about. Although the bathroom is reached through the bedroom the sink area is outside the toilet, which is helpful for a family of four. My only recommendation would be a mirror in the living area close to the kitchen sink since families use this area as a second sink for getting ready in the morning. The king bed in the bedroom was very comfortable although after walking 8-10 miles a day we always crashed. A number of people complain about the location of this hotel in previous reviews. Yes at night there are few food options nearby but that was never an issue for us. The Metro is ONE block away and you can walk to numerous museums (Native American, botanical gardens, air and space) in 10 minutes. We ended most days with a dinner far away and just took an Uber home (as we were tired of walking). Breakfast was standard Residence Inn (eggs, sausage, oatmeal, fruit, pastries, cereal). Although the staff was extra welcoming! On Tuesday morning the came by with strawberry smoothies and an invitation to join the Tuesday night social gathering (hamburgers, chips, salad, beer and wine). The hotel was clean and quiet and I would stay here again for a family vacation.

Location: very close to metro and short walk to DC Circulator bus Capitol stop. 15 minute walk to National Mall. The only negative is that there are no restaurants nearby (except for a great coffee place next door!). We used Doordash for most of our dinners which worked out great for our family of 5 with three young children after a long day of museums.
Cleanliness: The hotel is starting to show it's age but was very clean. No peeling paint or mold. Hand sanitizer readily available. Housecleaning is Tuesday and Friday and upon request otherwise. Both times we had housecleaning they didn't leave enough towels for us and we had to ask for extra.
Mobile options: Mobile key never worked despite being reset by the desk. I had to ask for a plastic key. Mobile service request (for extra towels) was marked as completed despite never being actually completed. We had to ask the front desk for towels.
Breakfast: During our 7 night stay we only had a hot breakfast twice. The other days were "grab and go" style wrapped breakfast sandwiches, granola bars or muffins, cereal, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, croissants or bread. It was sufficient but nothing special. The breakfast lady was super stingy and only put out a couple of juices (only orange juice) at a time so the "grab and go" was more like a "stand and wait" most mornings. This caused a backup in the serving line as all the children wanted juice!
Pool: was closed for repairs our first two days. It opened the second day but the hot tub jets didn't work. We appreciated the drinking water dispenser that was provided!
Room: spacious enough for our family of 5. Toiletries were provided in bigger bottles so we didn't run out. We came close to running out of toilet paper though. Front desk was happy to help with any requests.
Staff: fantastic. Very friendly and helped with whatever we needed.
Parking: very narrow garage. Pull in your side mirrors before you enter. If you are driving a larger vehicle, like a minivan, drive all the way to the end (P2) and the spaces are a little easier to park in. There were plenty of parking spaces during our stay in August. We chose a rate that included parking but otherwise it is $50+ a night. There are two cheaper parking garages nearby. You also have to pay a parking tax (welcome to DC!).

As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I have a certain expectation for a Marriott property. This property definitely did not hit my expectations. We went to the Capitals game and got back to our room around 11pm. Keep in mind that we set our room at 65 before we left for the game. Our room was 70 when we got back. I notified the front desk and didn’t get a message back until 2:30am. At that time the response was if you get came in from outside you will need to give it 15 mins to cook off or we can change rooms. Not at 2:30am, am I changing rooms. The tiny air vent that is in the room was not pumping out cold air. So let’s just say it was a miserable sleep. We were supposed to go to a museum today where we already had tickets but after a horrible nights sleep, we decided to head home.
I also purchased my rate through a package deal on the Bonvoy app. The rate included checkin early, late checkout and a $10 food credit. Well I had to remind the front desk of the package because it was saying we had to checkout by 11am. Then the $10 food credit. Well no one told us that had to use that in the gift store and not at the desk.
It was just an unpleasant experience when having such high expectations. Definitely will not come back to this hotel when in DC again.

I am very conflicted about this hotel. On one hand it’s in a great location near the metro and the mall and on the other it was an unorganized mess. The staff was kind but seemed overwhelmed most of the time. They were also very forgetful, for example I had went to the front desk and asked for towels one morning as we left, and the towels did arrive, just at 9pm. Also if your in room 305 check the dishwasher I let them know it was stinky and filled with water on the first day of our stay and for 5 nights it was in the same yucky state, no one ever came to fix it. It’s just so strange as we have always had a good experience with Residence Inn so I want to believe it was just an off week. But I am unsure if we would stay at this particular location again.

This place was amazing for us. The biggest draw was the two bedroom suites (with two bathrooms), which are super hard to find and make it great for families with small kids. The pool and hot tub helped too, but what we didn't know was that they would try so hard to be a great family friendly destination. They had a Family Movie Night, such a hit with my kids with popcorn, candy, and soda. Also, they did a BBQ on the patio, which was also so nice. The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly and always had a nice and pleasant word. They even gave the kids a toy from the treasure chest at our departure. They were so stoked.
Also, its a great location for visiting DC, we did the Spy Museum, the American Indian Museum and the Botanical Garden, all within walking distance. We also drove to the zoo. Its an easy spot for cabs to pick you up. There aren't a TON of food options super close by but you can walk 15 minutes to the Wharf for great food and music options. It was just perfect for what we needed. Louise at the front desk helped us split our checks, and the gentleman who made all the activities happen was great as well. We appreciate you. And everyone was super helpful, from extending checkout to whatever we needed.
Also the buffet had everything you could ask for, even a waffle machine with all the fixings, which was obviously also a big hit with the kids! We will definitely be back.

Enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Residence Inn. It's on a quiet street right across the street from NASA Headquarters, with 24 hr security keeping a watchful eye on NASA and the hotel, you know it's a safe place. Secure underground parking garage had plenty of parking except when the hotel was full. The rooms are spacious and clean with a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable bedding. Housekeeping is only twice per week but they did a good job. Complimentary "grab and go" breakfast consisted of breakfast sandwiches, bagels, juice, and fruit, was as good as can be expected during this time of Covid, but when the hotel was full the staff struggled to keep the buffet replenished. The indoor pool was also closed but the fitness room was open, offering a good selection of equipment. This is a good choice and value for the location, and I just booked another stay for next month.

Positives: can’t beat the location. Front desk staff are helpful and friendly. Beds are comfortable, hotel was quiet this visit. I’ve stayed here before when it was loud though. Has all the little things you need in the kitchen. The breakfast bags were phenomenal (their COVID solution), with a breakfast sandwich, fruit, yogurt and a snack with water.
Negatives: the air conditioning wasn’t great. Room never got really cool, had to turn unit off and back on for it to keep cooling - all this despite the thermostat saying 65. Never could get the TV to come on. Light in shower room obviously had a short in it and wouldn’t stay on, despite two visits from maintenance.

This is one of the Best Hotels we have stayed at. The Hotel staff are top rated. Traveling was just beginning to be acceptable following Covid-19 Isolation. We arrived at 900 PM from LAX. There is very limited dining around the hotel. The front desk clerk gave us delivery options. We chose We the Pizza.
The staff in the breakfast dining area were courteous and kept the area lively.
Unlike other hotels with limited service due to Covid-19 protocols, the housekeeping staff provided full room service in making our room.
The hotel is located 2 blocks away from the Washington DC Mall. We felt safe walking to the Mall to see the monuments and museums.
The hotel had a souvenir and snack shop. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

We are 5 young adults from Australia and loved this hotel. It was walking distance to everything and the front desk was so friendly. We had booked a 1 bedroom suite for the 5 of us but on arrival they upgraded us to 2 seperate suites - amazing. The front desk staff were always so helpful whenever we had questions and we just loved the whole hotel. They did struggle at breakfast time. The food was really good and varied but they were always running out of plates/cups, food etc. it eventually came but it was just so hectic and busy. Overall though we were very happy with our choice.

What do you do for food? I don’t want to have to think too hard about that traveling with a child.
I think everyone answered the places that are around. Now - we travelled with 2 kids and were out and about all day - so we usually ate before going back to the hotel. But on the days we didn't -
1. There was free dinner at the hotel on Tuesday night.
2. We tried the pizza next door (its called Autentica) and it was good
3. The Potbelly sandwich place is around the corner and about a block away.
4. McDonald's is close by as are 2 Starbucks nearby as well.
5. L'Enfant plaza is just a couple of blocks away and it has a wide variety of places to eat
I'm sure you will not have ANY problems finding food around the hotel! Safe travels!!!
We debated the cheapest way with was described above with the bus and then the subway but it took too long and with luggage and 2 children, we tried Uber. The cost at rush hour was about $47 which wasn't bad for 4 people with luggage. So if you want a quicker way, the Uber or Lyft the options are the ones we recommend. Taxi's are EXTREMELY expensive and so is Super Shuttle - we researched prices before we arrived and reconfirmed once we got there.
AFter you arrive there's a form you can write out. But for day of delivery I'm sure you could call them and just tell them or have them email/fax you a form. They were really good about everything in general.
No, they're not smart TVs. I brought our Kindle Fire stick with me and plugged that in.
Definitely a smart TV. We used Netflex. Recall there were three other options including Hulu. Amazon prime might well have been the other option. When you check out of the room it automatically signs you out of the site which is nice security feature.
