Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for 5 nights during a recent visit to DC, overall very impressed. Very modern and trendy hotel, and clearly popular.
Very convenient location, less than 10 minute walk to Union Station (including the subway and lots of food choices), and the Capitol building is a 10-15 minute walk. Very safe feeling in the area even at night.
Check in and check out very smooth with no concerns. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Doormen/concierge are excellent.
Room was modern and VERY spacious, very well equipped, and easily one of the nicest rooms we’ve stayed in. Bathroom felt very fancy for a hotel. Bed was very luxurious and comfortable, we slept so well each night! Room cleaned to a high standard each day, with fresh bedding and towels provided. Bottled water provided each day (there is a €7 large Evian bottle which you are charged for if used but they give you a small free bottle each day) - and also a water and ice machine on each floor.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel. The room was beautifully decorated with huge floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a great view on a beautiful snow day. They even had little personal toiletries and a reusable water bottle which I feel is a wonderful touch. The staff were so professional, friendly, and personable including Jaylen, Tibeso, and especially Beryl at the front desk. Beryl was a breath of fresh air and made me feel so cared for and welcomed as I checked in. Her personality is infectious as she explains all the amenities and dives into the history and beauty of the hotel including its mascot. This is my first experience at a Royal Sonesta and I hope all their other hotels live up to this one. I look forward to visiting this hotel on my next visit to D.C.!

The hotel is brand new. Very clean. It is very close to the Union station so that helps with taking the train. The amenities were good. They gave me a complimentary reusable water bottle—also $10 off on meals per day. My room, however, didn't have any natural light coming in. The window was facing inside the hotel atrium, this didn't help with the jet lag. The restaurant downstairs was good but didn't have a buffet. They had limited breakfast options. Staff in general was friendly and helpful. They did get my final bill wrong though. They added some coffee charges from the restaurant which were not mine.
Overall I was very happy with my stay.

Beware-There is an additional $34.79 charged for the gym, coffee in the room, bottle water and the water bottle in the room. This is usually included in the room rate. This information should be disclosed to guest upon check-in. Nice hotel but very pricey!

We (3 adults and 4 children) had booked two Monumental Rooms with 2 Queen-size beds and Capital City View at The Royal Sonesta Washington DC Capitol Hill for two nights. After a 5-hour bus ride, we arrived at The Royal Sonesta Washington DC Capitol Hill around 11:30 PM. The only staff member at the reception informed us that the rooms we had booked were not available. He offered us one room with a King-size bed and a rollaway bed, and the other room with a Queen-size bed and a pull-out sofa, along with $100 vouchers per room for the entire stay, which we could use at the hotel restaurant. In his opinion, this would be enough for 1 breakfast for 6 people. When we declined the offer, he alternatively suggested a refund of the room rate and that we find another hotel (at midnight). When we asked to speak with the hotel manager, he claimed to be the manager. Since we (especially the children) were exhausted from the trip and did not want to search for another hotel at midnight, we had to accept his offer. They then placed a rollaway bed in one room and provided bedding for the pull-out sofa in the other room. As a hotel guest, I was expected to make the bed (pull-out sofa ) myself, as no staff was available. The next day, I asked the staff at the reception to provide us with the rooms we had booked for the second night. However, the staff said that only the manager could decide this, who would not be available until the afternoon. He would be happy to offer us other rooms. We ended up spending the second night in these same rooms. Instead of the Queen-size beds we had booked, we got a rollaway bed and a pull-out sofa. One room had windows facing the atrium and was therefore very dark. The other room had a view of the building opposite. We did not get the city view we had booked.
About the rooms: The rooms are large but uncomfortable. The beds were saggy, causing me to have back pain the next morning. The bathroom was spacious. The water pressure in the shower (4th floor) was weak.
About the breakfast: Breakfast is à la carte. The pancakes were good, but the bacon was very dry and inedible. We received a bill, which used up the vouchers.
The hotel ruined our stay in Washington D.C.

We stayed here during the holiday break in December with our kids and had a fabulous stay. The hotel is brand new and the rooms were beautiful, clean and modern with floor to ceiling windows and wood floors. Our bathroom was spacious and modern with a stand up shower and the beds were one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in, and we travel a lot. The staff was very accommodating and the hotel had convenient valet on premise. They had a wonderful French cafe at the hotel with delicious food and drinks. It’s centrally located by Capitol Hill so was so easy for us to walk to all the major locations to see either our young kids. We’ve stayed in DC before and this hotel is by far better than any of the Marriotts and other brands we’ve stayed.

New (2023) hotel central to Union Station (rail and subway) and DC Circulator stops for 3 routes. Room spacious, very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Appreciated two comfy chairs and two small benches in room, plus desk, bar fridge and Nespresso type coffee maker and bottled water. Bathroom spacious with walk in rain shower; also closet containing iron & ironing board plus robe and slippers. Please note there is a daily resort fee additional to the room rate that covers the water and coffee and also a $10 credit per room for meals in the Du Jour restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice hotel and location.

They automatically tack on $30 per night charge that I am still not aware of the reason. Supposedly for water bottles - that were never touched in the room for the entirety of the stay. No pool or amenities to charge this "CM Room Upsell" for. Also booked a King room months out, arrived to a double bed room. Manager says they have no King beds available. Then why was my reservation for one confirmed? Poor experience at this location - due to that and the HIDDEN COSTS per night that management refuses to remove - avoid this hotel.

Wow - what a nice hotel! We feel very lucky to be some of the first to stay. Beryl's entire front desk team was phenomenal! They welcomed us back each and every time we returned. All of our questions or requests were very easily and seamlessly handled. Being responsible for a number of rooms during a business event, it's such a relief knowing our guests can rely on the hotel staff. Special shoutout to Jaylen for managing all our accommodations from the moment we stepped into the property. We can't wait to bring our group back next year!

Staff: professional and friendly. As we walk through the doors on our way back from sightseeing, we are always greeted.
Hotel: very contemporary, upscale environment without the pretentiousness. Our double queen room was expansive with a sofa, office / chair area, coffee bar with fridge. Ottomans at foot of each queen bed. We asked for a microwave. Bathroom had extra closet and iron/iron board. Big shower stall with rain shower head(pressure a bit low). Large size shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Only negative is lack of drawer space for families.
Area: mins walk from Union Station that has Walgreens, Shake Shack and many other eateries. Also across from Union Station is the DC Circulator/NMS. This convenient bus is $1 and takes you around the National Mall to the museums and monuments.
